The river is shallow for paddling, as well as ‘swimmable’ (at your own risk), a lovely spot to cool off on our warm summer days, or a mesmerising place to sit, watch, read, contemplate, draw or write. Some large old Mountain Ash remain along the river bank, with lots of new plantings. It is not uncommon to see an echidna, a variety of stunning birdlife, and on dusk, maybe a wombat family. We also host a family of platypus if you are very quiet. Our river block can hold up to 4 caravans (under 10 metres) and a couple of tents in one group (one booking). In addition, the upper adjoining block can accommodate 2 caravans (enquire for this option). This is a single group occupancy site so you can enjoy the privacy of your group. If you wish to hook into our powered site, please add $10 per night, per van. Nearby to Bonnie Brae there is an abundance of local treasures including Tarra Bulga National Park, Toms Cap Winery, Mount Tassie, trail rides, hiking, bush walks, swimming holes, Woodside beach, and country town centres. We are 1 hour East of Melbourne along the M1, (and a couple of kms off the M1). Situated in West Gippsland, Casa Cucina is a feast for the senses from the alpine majesty of the Baw Baw Plateau, the Bunyip State Forest, the lush green valleys, to the rivers and streams… there is always something to do in West Gippsland for the curious. Other attractions in the area are Gumbuya World, Nangara Reserve, Noojee and Neerim South, PLUS of course the wineries. The Tarago River backs onto our small yet spacious, open yet shaded space. The river is shallow for paddling, as well as ‘swimmable’ (at your own risk), a lovely spot to cool off on our warm summer days, or a mesmerising place to sit, watch, read, contemplate, draw or write. Some large old Mountain Ash remain along the river bank, with lots of new plantings. It is not uncommon to see an echidna, a variety of stunning birdlife, and on dusk, maybe a wombat family. We also host a family of platypus if you are very quiet. Our river block can hold up to 4 caravans (under 10 metres) and a couple of tents in one group (one booking). In addition, the upper adjoining block can accommodate 2 caravans (enquire for this option). This is a single group occupancy site so you can enjoy the privacy of your group. If you wish to hook into our powered site, please add $10 per night, per van. All campers will also have access to our Casa Cucina gorgeous eclectic, quirky community space to sit in out of the weather. Please note: This is not an accommodation space. As a reminder, all campers will need to be Self Contained as we have no toilet facilities, no access to fresh water, cold showers only and no cooking facilities. Also remember if you wish to have a fire in our firepit, you MUST bring your own wood.

Chris's place by the river is beautiful. The sound of the river and the birds was breathtaking. The grounds were extremely neat and tidy and the little hut was very quirky and interesting. We sat in there one afternoon when it got quite windy so it was very handy. Chris was very quick responding to any communication and very friendly.

1 night at Millers Farm "The Hills are alive"

It was pure joy to wake up on Miller's farm. The rooster heralded dawn - better than any alarm clock. That inspired the chorus of birdsong; kookaburras, cockatoos, wattlebirds, magpies, currawongs. That in turn encouraged the sheep - they started their day bleating for their feathered friends to join them. Farmer Anne let the feathers free and mayhem reigned. Chooks, turkeys and the sole duck running around chatting with excitement at the new day. The goats and alpacas were pretty happy to say hi too. How lucky were we to be part of it. Highly recommend Miller's Camp - check in was easy. Communication great. Anne was lovely. Camp kitchen was a bonus. Great stay. Thankyou.

Beautiful spot right on the river and all to yourself. Dogs can be off lead. Bit tricky to find, quick call to Adrian got us sorted. If coming off Stoney Creek Rd you need to take the left turn as soon as you see #69 and go up past #67 till you get to the Road Closed. That's the road in, open/close that gate then head down. One track is steeper than the one with some rutts. We took the rutted option, slow and steady you will be fine. We got in and out in our 2WD towing our camper trailer NO ISSUES even after having had 15ml of rain the day/night before we left. Awesome spot, will definitely be back! Thanks Adrian

Weekend Trip to BBQ's of the World

It was nice and peaceful. We enjoyed listening to the creek. Handy having the drop toilet also. We ended up in a different spot to the one we booked ( booked site 7 ended up at Miners) due to it being very wet and muddy and the new spot was much more suitable for us with our caravan. Little confusing when we got there, no one was there and no instructions. Trent did answer his phone and direct us when we called and called back later to check we were ok. We appreciated the later “checkout” Trent allowed us to have so that we had time to dry off our stuff, unfortunately it rained the whole time we were there. Also appreciated the fire wood bought down by Trent, we tried to have a fire but the weather wasn’t obliging. We would stay again.

The campsite was big enough for our group with 4 tents and three cars. Robert was so generous, providing us firewood, power, a floodlight and he let us stay in the shed as it was non-stop rain. He checked in with us frequently to make sure we were okay. Reception is very limited. Two friendly dogs kept us company.

Plenty of space at Cooper's Corner (bridge). We could here the sound of the creek flowing, almost therapeutic some what? Magnificent bird life at this hipcamp. Certainly worth the trip and what wonderful stay. Totally recommend camping at Hazelnut Valley Farm Stay.
