Pitch your completely self-sufficient sleeping quarters on our peaceful, flat, 7 acre property which backs onto the Bald Hill Nature Reserve and is less than five minutes drive from Kyneton’s historic Piper Street which is full of delightful restaurants and cafes.
Take under an hour to drive up and explore beautiful Bendigo, experience delightful Daylesford nearby and meander around the wonderful wineries of the Macedon Ranges.
Campfires are allowed subject to local fire restrictions and must be fully extinguished before you turn in for the night. Please search for the CFA website 'Fire Danger Period: Can I or Can't I?' which has all of the appropriate information. Each site has a fire pit which you can use providing it is not a total fire ban.
Firewood is available at a cost to you of $50 per wheelbarrow load which will easily cover two nights.
We have four separate camping locations on the property; you can easily have up to four RVs on sites 1, 2 and 4 and two on site 3. We have tried to ensure privacy for each location but you may be able to see other guests and/or the house through the many trees.
Please be aware that there are two dams on the property so children should supervised at all times. My own children swim in the dam and there is a kayak available but lifejackets must be worn by children in, around and on the water to minimise risk.
Pets are welcome. The kangaroos may prove quite enticing for some pets and as such we recommend dogs be kept on their leash. Site 4 has ringlock fencing and farm gates which can be helpful to contain your pets.
Please be aware that the Kyneton Gun Club has their monthly clay target shoot on the 3rd Sunday of each month (2nd Sunday in December) from 11am until 5pm during which time you will hear them clay pigeon shooting.
We are NOT a commercial campsite and, as such, you must be fully self-contained for power, water, showers, sewage, refuse disposal, etc.
Guests under the age of 25 must be accompanied by their parents.

This our 2nd time to Site2 at Catherine's property. We love that site, it has the best views of the countryside where the kangaroos pop by throughout the day, its farthest from the house, and the road and you feel hidden from the other campers. We love the fires we have every night and the walks you can access from the backend of her property. She always checks in making sure you're good, she even lent us a spare doona as we had forgotten our sleeping bags!!!

Peaceful and relaxing. Surprisingly quiet as it is so handy to all dining, shopping and attractions of Castlemaine. A real hidden gem with scenic views and visit from friendly horse in neighbouring paddock. Plenty of space to spread out on large campsite. Ten minutes to the magnificent Five Flags Hotel for the best meal we’ve had for ages!

What a fantastic spot. Came with a bunch of friends and there was heaps of space and plenty of privacy. Had some good weather and sat up on the wall overlooking the reservoir having a few drinks, great way to spend a weekend. Spoke to Rick a few times and he was super friendly and very helpful.

We loved our camp under the Rubbing Tree at Mt Sugarloaf! It was such a great contained place for kids and dogs to run around and enjoy the country air. We went as a group of friends and enjoyed mountain biking, swimming, yabbying, playing cricket and generally enjoy the space that we shared with the beautiful
Horses and cows. We had a great meal at the Avoca hotel only 10 mins away and enjoyed our campfires meals back at base too! Rick was very friendly and accommodating and we would definitely love to come back to his property. Thanks Rick!

Catherine has a great flat property and its so quiet to unwind after a hard day's work or just if you want a weekend away.. I was fortunate enough to witness an awesome lighting thunder storm from my rooftop tent.. along with Many skippy's bounding in paddocks nearby. Its 5 mins from town so it is a very convenient location. Catherine is a lovely lady and made me feel very welcome.. I would definitely be booking this again if I'm working in this area.

Staying at the echidna retreat was extremely peaceful and relaxing, the facilities and amenities provided were clean, tidy and plentiful. Clear instructions were provided on the listing, by the host and on instructional paper in the accommodation.
The views, weather and animals surrounding were beautiful as well as the local towns which were rich in culture and provided plenty of site seeing opportunities. The stars were unbelievable and bright as well. We saw an echidna within 5 minutes of our arrival and kangaroos greeted us every morning before the sun fully rose.
Would highly recommend to any people looking to have a peaceful stay away from all the noise and pollution of city living.

Thank you Rick and Julie for allowing us to stay on your farm at the Rubbing Tree. We had a wonderful weekend of just relaxing, looking over the reservoir, watching all the birdlife, saying hello to the horses who kindly came up for a visit, admiring the bush tv and checking out the town of Avoca. We didn’t get to meet our hosts however Rick kindly called us when we arrived home to make sure that we had a great time. It was a very much appreciated call. We will definitely be back.

We would really recommend this camp. Beautiful property and friendly family. Each site is secluded and generous with enough space for kids to roam and play. Kids enjoyed playing in the dam while fully supervised with life jackets.
Family are great and offer any assistance necessary.
Will definitely stay again as so close to local amenities while offering a relaxing break.

Rick informed us of some terrible weather approaching the weekend and gave the option to reschedule with no issues. He was quick to respond to all of our queries regarding the property. Rick met us at the gates on arrival and was very welcoming to the group and showed us the area. The site was clean, peaceful and the kids loved the animals that were very friendly. Would 10/10 reccomend! Thanks again Rick!

The woodlands site was a lovely secluded spot to camp. The directions to get to Ricks place were clear & plenty of water available if needed. It was quite windy & dusty in our time camping, but we made the best of the conditions.
