The birdlife is abundant, including the occasional glimpse of a Cassowary. Camp sites are on 2.5ha of lush green lawns, lots of shade and within metres of a fresh water creek for swimming and relaxing. Facilities include: septic toilets, showers, dry firewood (on request) and spacious sites Children and pet friendly. Guests are advised to only light fires in designated areas and these must be fully extinguished before departure.

Escape to your own private rainforest hideaway. Tucked away and surrounded by nature, this campsite offers peace, seclusion, and the perfect chance to recharge and unwind. We’re just minutes from Kuranda Heritage Markets, refreshing waterfalls, crystal-clear swimming holes, the Barron River, and a host of local attractions. On the property, you’ll find edible gardens to graze from, a seasonal creek at the boundary, and lush protected rainforest waiting to be explored. If you’re seeking a quiet stay away from the crowds, this is the place for you. Amenities include an outdoor hot water bath and shower set amongst the rainforest, a composting toilet, and a rustic outdoor camp kitchen. Our main house is 50m away but the camp-site has full privacy from the house. Please note: we’re unable to accommodate pets to protect our native wildlife. Our resident curlews just had babies, again ;)

We had a wonderful stay here. Dean is an incredibly kind and welcoming host—he greeted us at the gate, showed us around the campground, and shared lots of helpful local advice. The atmosphere is very calm and relaxing, and the bathrooms were spotless and well maintained. The campground has everything you need for a comfortable stay, and being able to take a refreshing dip in the creek was a real highlight. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a peaceful and well-run camping experience.

Camp beside the creek and enjoy the rainforest and no crocodiles !!

We loved our stay. Beautiful tranquil location. The creek was so refreshing and crystal clear. Very private and well maintained. Loved that we could take our dog and really enjoyed some amazing photography opportunities. We will definitely return.

What a beautiful spot .. we were there mid week and had the place to ourselves .. lots of shady spots with campfires accessible.. great to have a toilet and shower block and camp kitchen well maintained . The campsites all close to the lake to enjoy fishing and birdlife. We loved having the local characters .. Wolf the retired kelpie hanging out with us .. “Bird” the local duck who adopted us after our morning fishing .. and the horses and cattle who were curious but delightful having them so tame to not fear us invading there territory. Joy a great host ..location perfect from Cairns .. if night skies, campfire and time out is what your seeking .. this is the perfect spot .. had a great time and look forward to taking my family back here .

Weekend Trip to Barron River Getaway at Kuranda

What a special little gem of a campsite .. our site had tap water and power , and plenty of room for our ute and camper trailer setup . Peaceful river with sandy bank is only 50 m down some steps. Kayaks, canoes and sun lounge are provided too . Judy and Don are great hosts and very welcoming onto their picturesque property ... not our first time here and we will be back again and again. VERY hard to beat !

Two years ago we stayed at the Barron River Getaway and we had such an incredible time that we decided to return. Same as before, we had an amazing experience staying on Judy and Don’s property. Our hosts were warm and inviting, and with a large and lush lawn overlooking the Barron River, it was the perfect place for our student group to spread out. We enjoyed watching the abundant birds and marsupials on the property, swimming in the river, and sitting around the campfire while having enriching cultural exchanges with our hosts and the guests they brought. Don and Judy don’t just know the local history, they’re a part of it, and have played an important role in making Kuranda what it is today. We are so grateful for the hospitality and flexibility they showed us, and their farm is a great place for any group gathering.
