Leander is a goat property located on a red sand ridge about 25 kilometres from Longreach, Qld. Toby, Georgia, and their two kids farm Rangeland/Boer Goats and also have a small herd of Wagyu cows.
The site is completely self-sufficient with no amenities, so please make sure this suits your camping setup.
Please note this is a working property - there may be stock around and there is lots of native wildlife. Pets are welcome but we ask you be mindful and they be kept on a leash at all times. We also request you do not go exploring on your own. If you would like a tour, please ask - we'd love to show you around.

Located in Birdsville, QLD, this flat, open gibber plot gives you a front-row seat to one of Australia’s most famous frontier towns. Forget long dirt track drives back to camp after a cold beer - everything is right on your doorstep.
The Space
The Plot: A spacious, flat quarter-acre town block featuring authentic red gibber ground - solid and ready for all setups.
Neighbourhood: Friendly neighbours are on one side and across the street. We ask guests to respect the local vibe and keep noise reasonable.
Water Access: A mains water hookup is provided on-site so you can top up your tanks.
Important: You MUST be fully self-contained. Apart from water, there are no power hookups, or on-site toilets/showers. You need your own toilet, shower, power supply, and waste setup. The dump point is a minute's drive away.
Location, Location!
Park the vehicle and stretch your legs - everything is a flat 5-10minute walk away.
The Birdsville Hotel: One of the world's iconic pubs is in your backyard! Stroll down for an icy beer and a hearty meal, with a short wander home.
The Birdsville Bakery: At the end of the street, breakfast and lunch are sorted. Fuel up with coffee and grab a legendary Curried Camel Pie.
Public Amenities: The local Visitor Info Centre and well-maintained public toilets are also at the end of the street.
House Rules
Self-Contained Only: You must carry your own cassette toilet and grey water setup. No dumping any kind of waste on-site.
Leave No Trace: Secure all rubbish tightly against outback winds and pack out what you bring.
Quiet Hours: Please observe quiet hours between 10:00 PM and 7:00 AM.
Ground Conditions: It’s a gibber block (stony ground) - bring heavy-duty pegs for awnings or swags!
Whether you're taking a breather after crossing the Simpson Desert, staging your journey down the Birdsville Track, or soaking up the outback atmosphere, this site gives you freedom, town access, and fresh water.

Georgia was an amazing host. Met us on the track in, guided us to our camp site. Made sure we were ok and looked after us the whole time we were there, and went above and beyond to make sure our stay was memorable. The night sky, was just superb. We saw kangaroos, cattle grazing some birdlife. Highly recommend Leander Station. The views and the solitude were exactly what we were after. Thank you Georgia.

We had such a lovely stay at this Hipcamp. From the moment we arrived, the hosts were incredibly welcoming and friendly. They made us feel right at home and let us know that if we needed anything during our stay, we could simply reach out. When we packed up to leave, they even came down to check in and see how our stay went, which was such a thoughtful touch.
Although the creek wasn’t running during our visit, it honestly didn’t bother us at all. The property was still peaceful, private, and the perfect place to relax and unwind. Our kids aged 16, 13, and 7 absolutely loved it too, especially exploring the property and collecting firewood for the campfire.
A beautiful, quiet spot for families or anyone wanting a relaxing getaway. We’d happily stay again and would recommend to our friends and family.

We had a great 3 night stay at Steve and Anna’s property. It was dry and not much water in the creek, as they hadn’t had any rain for a few months. But we still thoroughly enjoyed our time there.
We went on daily walks, explored the creek, chilled and relaxed by the fire. It was a perfect little getaway.

Very private site with spectacular night skies. We were entirely on our own and really enjoyed the peace and quiet. An outback experience very close to town.
Pets welcome but the site has a lot of burr vegetation with very fine sharp spines. Wouldn't take my dog there to be honest. Otherwise, a lovely spot.

Anna and Steve are friendly and helpful hosts. Stayed here a couple of times now and recommend. Easter 2026 conditions were dry. Trickle in the creek and dry surrounds but that didn’t impact our camping experience. Nice quiet location.

We had a great stay on Danielle's station, she met us at the gate and showed us the site we'd be staying at. Lovely peaceful spot on the river, can't fault it at all.
If you love the feeling of being secluded, but with the security of being on someone's property, definitely recommend it.
Cows wondering past in the morning, a few roos around whilst we were there.
