The Cooke Family welcomes you to “Hopevale”. A beautiful 113 acre property bordered by Wrattens National Park at the edge of the world in the peaceful Widgee district of greater Gympie. Jason, a landscaper by trade, and Jacinta a teacher by profession, met many years ago at a national Christian youth conference. Four beautiful children later and many years down the track, they bought Hopevale as a blank cattle fattening property in 2018. After much hard work, they have made it what it is today, with plans to continually improve. We have different camp options available, one of which is set up for those guests also wanting to stay with horses or just have a larger group booking. Guests will have access to a toilet and shower throughout their stay which is within walking distance from each of the campsites. Campfires and pets are welcome. The property has only had 4 farming owners in its 110 odd years since it was first surveyed and selected in 1915. The Hillcoats, Bishops, Cotters, and now the Cooke’s. The families over the years have used the property for timber getting, dairy, beef and small cropping. The property is geologically rich with volcanic soils, sandstone escarpments full of caves and overhangs. The mighty Wrattens Falls sits to the back of the property in the National Park and is a sight to behold in full flow. It feeds the head waters of the western branch of Widgee Creek which meanders through the property. The subtropical dry rainforest clad mountains are dominated by the majestic Bunya and Hoop pines and are a testament to what once was covering the entire property before being cleared for farming. Remnant riparian creek lines are botanically rich and diverse holding Red and White Cedar, Teak, Silky oak and many other coveted timber trees harvested back in the day. There are many species of animals and birds that call Hopevale home. From water dragons, frogs and fish in the creeks, monitors, wallabies, deer, koalas, possums and phascogales in the eucalypts. Red-back wrens, pardalotes, rainbow bee-eaters, finches and quail call the open grasses home while whip birds give their iconic call in the forest. We had a great camp setup at Pilgrims Rest! They aren’t kidding when they say 4x4 only. It was our first experience towing our van in these conditions: steep, rocky and creek crossings. (We nailed it). Got in and out of camp no issues even though it was a little tight. Excellent creek for the kids to explore right in eye sight of camp. A few cars came by but nothing that was disturbing. Had some visitors (cows and horses). Quiet and remote. No phone service. Star-link worked until the weather kicked off. We had a deluge in the afternoon and overnight. Anita came down in the morning to check the creek crossings on our departure day. Advised us to head off as soon as possible due to the possibility of being flooded in. Great hosts. Good communication and excellent directions given. If we are in the area again we would visit again.

We didn't make it to our camp site due to my car being not suitable. But we made it a couple of KM in and me and my daughters were stunned by the tranquillity of this beautiful property. 10 out of 10 for me! We camped at pilgrims rest and were the only people there. Right beside the freshwater Creek. Not much water in the creek ATM but holes deep enough to dip in. Could hear the water running constantly. It was exactly what I wanted. Cows and horses grazing on the property

The property is a beautiful spot with some gorgeous views and wildlife. The swimming hole was a favourite as it was so much fun! The waterfall walk was very refreshing, it will look amazing when it is in flow. The doggies had the best time with plenty of space to run around. My group of 6 stayed at Big Fig which was a lovely spot with plenty of room. The bathroom was also rather pleasant with plenty of hot water. We would definitely come and stay again!

5 Star camping ground!! Would definitely recommend to everyone, host came to welcome us as soon as we arrived. Plenty of activities to do there and room to create your own fun. Campsite spacing was really nice, not so close from other campers. Would definitely be back when given the chance!

Weekend Trip to Max's Farm

Top camping area was private and shady almost surrounded by trees. The only interruption the whole time was from the occassional visit by a kelpie, but a really nice dog so not a problem. There was enough space to comfortably manoeuvre camper trailer. It was a short walk to the creek although it was only a trickle when we stayed. Only problem we experienced was getting enough sun on our solar panels, although if camping a bit lower on the hill that wouldn't be an issue. Not sure I would have been as comfortable on one of the bottom camping sites which are quite exposed.

Weekend Trip to Hopevale Adventure Camping

Private camping sites along the forest filled seasonal creek, makes for the ideal weekend escape. The best time to visit would be after the summer rain to enjoy the creek, though, there are some great walks to enjoy, including Wrattens Falls or the cave. The owners have done a great job on the property providing visitors a great outdoor experience.

This was our second time staying at Little Fig Flat. We love it here plenty of space, peaceful and Jason is an awesome host always improving the campsite. We really like that campsites are not crowded in and you have plenty of space available.

We just loved it. Mountain View was wonderful. Jason dropped in to say hello the first day then left us alone. There were few prickles and the ground was flat, mostly grassy and we had plenty of room. We were able to throw the balls for the dogs and tire them out. The cattle and horses were fun to watch. We also saw kangaroos and lots of birds. The ticks were a bit offputting but we coped. The dogs had just been tick treated and they didn't seem to have any on them. It was tick season. We will be back in winter next time.

Weekend Trip to Lowood Nature Camp

We had a fantastic 2-night, 3-day stay at this peaceful property in Lowood, hosted by the wonderful Lynette and Lauren. This is the ideal spot for true off-grid camping. Important Note on Facilities: This is a primitive camp, meaning there are no shower or toilet facilities. Campers must be fully self-sufficient, but if you're prepared, the reward is pure quiet and space. What it lacks in amenities, it makes up for in space and charm. There is plenty of open land and the entire experience was incredibly relaxing. The check-in and check-out process was easy and seamless. The absolute highlight was the friendly resident horses! We highly recommend you pack carrots and apples to make some new friends. For restocking supplies like wood and ice, the town of Lowood is only a quick 5-minute drive away. Big Fig Camp was absolutely amazing. The property is well taken care of. It felt like a sacred place to connect with nature and the wildlife is thriving there. We will visit again.

We love visiting Hopevale adventure camping. This is about our 5th time back and the new addition of the dam for swimming is amazing. Jason is always an amazing host. Facilities are always clean. It’s a beautiful spot to camp! We will be back.

Beautiful property and very spacious and private camp site. The swim dam is a great place to cool off. There are a few kms of dirt road as you get close to the property.

Great spot very secluded. Felt like you had the place to yourself. Nice to meet Jason on arrival very welcoming. Shower and toilet additions are great. Will be going back again one day.
