There is one toilet available, a portable toilet (if the toilet runs out of soap/paper etc you will need to supply your own. The property offers a large dam for kayaking, fishing, yabbying. There is also bush walking. There is a small common area/ shed available with a bbq for guests to use and a table. If exploring please do not go through any fences as you may end up on a neighbors property. Guests may camp as close or far away from the main dam as they like, camp sites are first in first served. Pets allowed if kept under control, firewood is permitted to be used from the ground only no felling of standing trees, you may have a fire on the ground. NO fires during a total fireban. Many sites available, avoid the crowds, we do not over crowd our campers. Only 25 mins easy drive (including 9kms of dirt road) to all the wonderful Mudgee wineries, cafes and restaurants. In the early 1970’s Mr James, the owner of 'Biara', subdivided three 25 acre blocks across the road from the original homestead. The first block was sold to his nephew, the middle block was to be purchased by the Preston family and ‘The Gateway’ was purchased by a Mr Carveth. Unfortunately, the sale of the middle block fell through then, due to family illness, 'Biara' was sold and the family moved to Blackheath. After this move, and as thank you to his son, Mr James transferred the title of the middle of the three subdivided blocks to his only son, William. Back in the late 1960’s, early 1970’s, the area was vastly different than it is today. Travelling to school entailed a car trip to Hargraves then bus to Mudgee which would have been a 2 hour round trip! The area was far more isolated as there was no power and entailed an overland phone line, which had to be regularly repaired if residents wanted to be able to communicate with the outside world. The site allows mainly for camping and relaxing although there are numerous dirt roads to explore, Mudgee wineries close by and Burrendong Dam not far away (accessible via Hill End Road near Erudgere). Hargraves is also known for it's alluvial gold deposits and fossickers still go there regularly to check out Louisa Creek. There is 15km's of dirt road which needs to be traveled to reach the property. Dependent on weather, and if it has been graded recently, this road can be in varying states of repair. In heavy rain it may be difficult to get 2WD access via the public road due to the clay content in the road . Kangaroo, wallaby, owl species, kookaburra, echidna, snakes, various lizards, including shinglebacks, are often seen on these roads and the property.

This is such a beautiful spot with the rows of vines running off towards the rising sun. The winery itself seems popular and offers delicious pizzas. (Gluten free available too, which made us super happy!) I would say that being in a van would have its advantages. We were camping in tents. Which was a little more challenging just because there isn’t any shaded spots and it’s quite exposed to the wind. Both of these things wouldn’t be an issue with a van or camper. But don’t let that put you off! It’s well worth a visit for the wine, pizzas and the stargazing!

Lovely stay under the stars. So nice to be able to hook up to power and water as well as use of the adjoining tiny house. The tiny house is a great spot to sit up high on bar stools and watch the sun go down over the land. It’s peaceful, quiet and we loved seeing the sheep and cows. Kim and Wayne are amazing hosts and I’d highly recommend a stay.

Our family’s first time camping and we had an amazing time. Directions were clear, and the site was clean. Simple amenities, which were also clean. We met the host, who was absolutely lovely and very welcoming. Fishing available, we recommend bringing lures. The night sky was full of more stars than we’ve ever seen in our lives. It was peaceful, quiet, and had plenty of local wildlife coming to drink from the waterhole. Highly recommend this camping site.

We enjoyed staying at the main dam on Tara's farm. We had a great time relaxing by the water and camp fire. There was plenty of space and plenty for the kids to do, whether playing on play equipment, slide, wading and splashing in the water or throw a line in. We even managed to catch a few fish! The toilet on site was very clean, and there was a BBQ available too. If you're looking for a nice, quiet time away camping and fishing, I recommend Tara's farm.

Sally was quick to respond to booking and was so accommodating. As we turned up to a 50km/hr wind she offered for us to tuck in behind the shearing shed. Even though we didn't get to experience the back property, we loved the birds and serenity. A little bit of highway noise early evening but ok overnight. Thank you!
