Our 4,000 acre undulating property is an area that lots of animals also call home such as kangaroos, deers, wombats, goannas, echidnas, goats, sheep and cattle. Looking for some fun activities during your stay. We are located 5 minutes from the Burrendong Arboretum, only 7 minutes from Lake Burrendong where you can try your hand at activiites such as fishing, boating, swimming, kayaking, canoeing and much more. If you book one of our bell tent sites you can select to get a free access card to Lake Burrendong which lets you enter the Park as many times as you like totally free. If you don't mind a little drive we are only 1/2 an hour from the iconic Wellington Caves, 1 hour from Dubbo and Orange where you can visit wonderful attractions such as the Dubbo Western Plains Zoo, Old Dubbo Gaol, Orange Ophir Gold Mine, 1.5 hours from beautiful Mudgee wineries and much much more. There are plenty of tourist activities which surround our beautiful property that you can visit, that is if you wish to leave the serenity of Stockyard.

We run a sheep farm on our property located north east of Dubbo. This is the land of big sky country. The sunrises and sunsets are spectacular here along with starry nights, beside the campfire especially when the full moon arrives. It is nothing short of amazing as you marvel at the sights from the verandah of The Tiny Home or from your campsite. Not far from our property you’ll find the Goonoo CCA Zone 1 National Park. CCA Zone parks are Community Conservation Areas reserved as national parks. The greater Dubbo region offers many activities for tourists, adventure seekers and nature lovers. The Tiny House is fully self-contained with a fold out double bed and a little kitchenette featuring a fridge, cookware and utensils and a BBQ. The bathroom/laundry are separate. We also offer a campsite for additional family members or friends. You're welcome to go for a swim in the dam which is a short walk away, or take a stroll to the top of the rocky hill to see 360 degree views. Meet the locals (emus) or see the sheep being shorn if your booking coincides at the same time. Pets are by special request only.

In the early 1970’s Mr James, the owner of 'Biara', subdivided three 25 acre blocks across the road from the original homestead. The first block was sold to his nephew, the middle block was to be purchased by the Preston family and ‘The Gateway’ was purchased by a Mr Carveth. Unfortunately, the sale of the middle block fell through then, due to family illness, 'Biara' was sold and the family moved to Blackheath. After this move, and as thank you to his son, Mr James transferred the title of the middle of the three subdivided blocks to his only son, William. Back in the late 1960’s, early 1970’s, the area was vastly different than it is today. Travelling to school entailed a car trip to Hargraves then bus to Mudgee which would have been a 2 hour round trip! The area was far more isolated as there was no power and entailed an overland phone line, which had to be regularly repaired if residents wanted to be able to communicate with the outside world. The site allows mainly for camping and relaxing although there are numerous dirt roads to explore, Mudgee wineries close by and Burrendong Dam not far away (accessible via Hill End Road near Erudgere). Hargraves is also known for it's alluvial gold deposits and fossickers still go there regularly to check out Louisa Creek. There is 15km's of dirt road which needs to be traveled to reach the property. Dependent on weather, and if it has been graded recently, this road can be in varying states of repair. In heavy rain it may be difficult to get 2WD access via the public road due to the clay content in the road . Kangaroo, wallaby, owl species, kookaburra, echidna, snakes, various lizards, including shinglebacks, are often seen on these roads and the property.

There are stunning views of the surrounding countryside in all directions from The Old Dairy. It is a place to unwind, relax, reset. Our property is approximately 150 acres, located in the Upper Hunter Valley between the Goulburn River National Park and the Wollemi National Park. In the shadow of Mt Dangar, our land sweeps down to the pristine Goulburn River, one of the main tributaries of the Hunter River. The property was once part of a huge agricultural station, that was established not long after explorers started to open up the interior to development in colonial times. We raise cattle and have an olive grove, which we planted in 2001 (our olive brand is Windybank Olives). In 2003 we established The Old Dairy accommodation, by renovating the crumbling 1940's dairy shed at the top of the property. There are stunning views of the surrounding countryside in all directions from The Old Dairy. It is a place to unwind, relax, reset. Guests have loved the peace & quiet we offer, the chance to get away from everything for a short while. Our road is just off Bylong Valley Way - a visually stunning route through the national parks towards Mudgee, Rylstone, Capertee Valley, Lithgow and the Greater Blue Mountains, tracking along the headwaters of the Goulburn River. One of the most beautiful drives in New South Wales and within close proximity of terrific campsites like Ganguddy (Dunn's Swamp via Rylstone) and Big River (Gouburn River National Park). Plenty of birds & wildlife (kangaroos make a very regular appearance - as do healthy green tree frogs!). A beautiful part of the world.

We spent 3 days here and it was lovely! The amenities including a shower were very clean and tidy, with plenty of hot water (just need to move the cute little frogs along before use). Hosts are very friendly and accommodating. Make sure you ask them for a tasting at the distillery while you’re there. There’s a free camp down the road, but this farm is ideal if you want a little more privacy and security.

Fantastic quiet night. Great instructions. Perfect fireplace, and benefit of having 240v and a roof when a wild storm came through was appreciated. There is a pump or genset on across st the farms all night. Apart from that, no noise! Occasional horsey whinny and a few night birds. We spotlighted microbats. Saw lots of wombat evidence but no Wally. Nice chilly, start to the say, with a hill to the West. Drove further up the valley to walk over Reuben’s trail to Baerami: no go, it means we’d have to access via private property and neighbours at Baramul suggested kindly ‘it might not be wise’.. Thanks Clare we loved the schoolhouse. Esp the monkey bars!

My family and I cannot recommend The Stockyard Experience enough! The property is situated in an amazing area in Mumbil, yet still conveniently located a short distance from Wellington. The camp is well equipped—tents are spacious, the beds comfortable, the amenities clean and well maintained. As other reviewers have mentioned, Vicky and Brian are amazing host; who were prompt and open in their commutation from start to finish of our booking. Not only were they hospitable and warm, but they also incorporated small touches around the camp to make our stay even more welcoming. We thoroughly enjoyed our time and definitely look forward to coming back the next opportunity we get to unplug and unwind. Many thanks again Vicky and Brian! In short: Perfect spot for a family’s first camp!

I stayed at the Black Gate Distillery camp ground after stopping by for a rum and whiskey tasting. I can't recommend the tasting enough. Genise ran me through a tasting of the available spirits, giving a good explanation of each sample. Then, Brian took me into the distillery to see the inner workings. His passion and enthusiasm was obvious. He gave me tastings of several of the spirits in the barrels while explaining the process. In fact, I had to tell him that my taste buds had had enough as he was happy to keep going. I was the only person at the camp ground, so it was difficult to rate it. Firewood was supplied, but it was a waste lighting a fire for myself, so I didn't. The amenities were very good - clean, hot showers. There was a BBQ available, but I didn't use it.

As a tent user, I had asked in advance about the grass length, and it was nicely trimmed just as requested, which made our stay even more comfortable. The site was quiet and offered plenty of privacy. Overall, we had a wonderful experience with hardly anything to complain about. Highly recommended!
