Our property contains the first road in and out of Colo - the original road is supported by hand built dry rock walls some of which are over 3 m high. Often referred to as convict built, but more likely built by freemen who were former convicts. The property housed the load master's residence who controlled the cargo boats that docked to collect the valley’s produce. This was then transported back down the Colo River which flows into the Hawkesbury river and leads to Broken Bay following the coastline down to Old Sydney Town. The beach diagonally across the river was landed upon by members of the First Fleet’s exploratory scouting party on the lookout for quality farm land - some of which is still in production today. Our property is on the uppermost reach of freshwater but with tidal influence. This deep water allows swimming and canoeing all year round. Our property contains the first road in and out of Colo - the original road is supported by hand built dry rock walls some of which are over 3 m high. Often referred to as convict built, but more likely built by freemen who were former convicts. The property housed the load master's residence who controlled the cargo boats that docked to collect the valley’s produce. This was then transported back down the Colo River which flows into the Hawkesbury river and leads to Broken Bay following the coastline down to Old Sydney Town. The beach diagonally across the river was landed upon by members of the First Fleet’s exploratory scouting party on the lookout for quality farm land - some of which is still in production today. Our property is on the uppermost reach of freshwater but with tidal influence. This deep water allows swimming and canoeing all year round. Our property is adjacent to the only council built canoe launching facilities on the Colo River.

We had the best stay. Loved picking and eating nectarines fresh off the trees, feeding the animals in the morning, the tractor ride, the play area for the kids and being able to enjoy our iced coffees. The only downside is how far the toilets are from the camp site, but even that was okay. Camp Site 8 was surrounded by other campsites, but the sites are all spacioius, so it didnt feel crowded. The hosts were absolutely lovely!

Jaime and Nathan are honestly some of the nicest people you’ll meet. From the moment we arrived, they made us feel right at home. The campsite itself is awesome—huge spaces for tents and plenty of room for the kids to roam. The café has seriously good coffee (a lifesaver for parents!), and everyone we met was so helpful and friendly. The kids loved the tractor ride and meeting the farm animals—it’s the kind of simple joy that makes camping special. There’s even a sandpit where the kids played for two hours (which gave me a chance to doze off :) ). They said they wanted to stay there forever!

The rates are reasonable and the sites are wide. Firepits, shower and toilets available. There is a cafe open during our stay plus fruits that we can freely pick and eat (just be reasonable in the amount you take) there are friendly farm animals that you can join in feeding them in the morning. Great for families and friends looking for something fun, close to Sydney activities. Only downside is if it is hot, there isn’t any shade so prepare your own shelter, and only 1 shower is available.

Easy site selection options. Friendly manager on site. No water or power to sites so plan accordingly. Great views across the river. Stunning location. Small shop on site. Try to avoid camping next to school groups as they are guaranteed to be noisy as I found out. Would happily book here again.

Beautiful campsite with plenty of shaded areas. A lovely forest at the back of the property to wander around in. Also the location of the Bunyip gives easy access to the national parks in the area. Lisa is easy going and very helpful. The amenities are in my view to rustic. Definitely worth staying a few nights.

We had a great time with just two of us at C Colo but can see it would also work really well for groups too. There is variety between the campsites and we found a perfect little one to suit just us. Steve and Danielle were great hosts and we enjoyed a good chat. It rained on arrival but the land dried quickly and it wasn't an issue at all. We will absolutely come back to explore more on a longer stay soon!

Such a great little getaway! Hard to believe it’s only an hour from Sydney. The campground is super spacious and really quiet, and being in the middle of a fruit orchard made it feel extra peaceful. Loved waking up and walking over to the café for a morning coffee. The farm animals were cute, and fruit picking was a fun bonus. The only downside was the bathrooms—they need a bit of TLC and they’re a fair walk from the campsites, which isn’t ideal at night. But overall, we had a great stay and would definitely come back!

Weekend Trip to Jila Camp Grounds

Camping at Jila Campgrounds was an experience. The mountain-perched site with river frontage is perfect, lovely for kayaking or just unwinding by the water. They provide toilets and showers, which makes things comfortable. The campground feels very safe, even for solo campers, and it’s pet-friendly so Kyoto was happy exploring. One great thing: there’s no reception or mobile signal, which is ideal if you want to disconnect. Just make sure you save all your important notes offline before you arrive. The owner was super helpful. When our car broke down, he helped us get it working again. That kind of support made a big difference. A word of caution: during a short but heavy rain with strong wind, a nearby car was struck by a falling tree. It’s wise to camp a little distance from large trees if the weather turns. Overall, I really like this place: mountain views, riverside calm, and a helpful owner. It’s about an hour from us, and we’d definitely go back.

I had a really enjoyable stay at Canoelands orchard camping. There were lots of animals on the property, which made the experience really fun and unique. We also loved that there were fruit-picking opportunities right on-site. Another highlight was the café – being able to grab a fresh coffee in the morning was such a nice touch.
