Tabatha was able to accommodate me very last minute when another camp was not working out. This is a very private paddock all to yourself that is completely closed in so you can let your dogs roam free. It’s all quite level and there is a fire pit and firewood supplied. Sadly it started raining a little so we couldn’t have a fire. You are surrounded by gorgeous pine trees and and soothing nature sounds, I slept amazingly! We will definitely be back again thanks so much!

Down by the Hawkesbury is a rare find and recommended. Lots of positives - lovely hosts, easy access for all vehicle types, private and spacious area to use right above the river (complete with amazing sunsets), massive undercover area with lots of lighting options (general and party string lights) plus power points, a “mini amenity block” with washing up area, flushing toilet and shower (super hot water).
We spent four nights there, me in my bell tent with my dog and my parents in Mabel (the vintage caravan). Mabel is super cute, super comfortable and even has air-con.
Please note, depending on where you pitch your tent, if you are a light sleeper, you may hear sounds carrying across the water at night. If you are sensitive to this (like me) bring your usual ear plugs, ear phones etc. just in case. I used mine only two nights, but thought it best to mention for anyone similar. Not an issue if staying in Mabel, or your own camper-van / caravan.
The main ground area is really well kept - bindi free, actual lawn! It is soft under foot and nice to sit down on. Access to the river is via constructed steps, so bring your fishing gear if that’s your thing (no luck for Dad, just two eels, that were thrown back)
Nature is right there to enjoy - the river, trees, birdlife, a couple of Water-Dragons and Blue-Tongues that passed by somedays… vivid sunsets and bright stars at night.
Not far from townships of Pitt Town and Windsor if you need camp supplies or some take-away food.

Great spot for a stop over, close to most things. Turn off the highway can be tricky as the Number is on the gate which was open so we couldn’t see it. Well maintained, private and peaceful may take a bit to level up though.
Somewhere in Hilltop there’s a Fox with my Flip Flop! Cheeky buggers nicked one during the night so keep your shoe’s in! We’re still laughing about it.

You will not find a better spot within two hours on Sydney. I’m reluctant to share how good it is in fear of it being booked out next time we go. We went for a family catch up before Christmas. Even though it was a 40 degree weekend it didn’t feel like it under the beautiful shady trees. The river, though busy with boats on the hottest weekend of the year offered a quick refresh in a floating tube.
Megan the host was fantastic, responsive and warm. The property itself is immaculate. Beautiful sunsets, My Brother hired Mabel the vintage caravan for the two nights and loved lt.
It was the perfect weekend. Thank you so much Megan.

This is the 3rd time our group of 20 have stayed here. Just as amazing as the last times. It's so relaxing and spacious for a large group. The facilities great and awesome to explore the local area. This time it was exploring near by Bilpin with great markets and cider. Megan and her husband are fantastic hosts. We are already looking forward to our next stay

Absolutely loved our weekend there. There was another group at the same time but the setup meant we couldn’t hear anything whatsoever.
Right by the river which was nice. Got a decent shower, thunder and lightening on the first night and the ground still held up absolutely fine. Lisa had some big tables and even a bbq available to use which was a lovely bonus.

We just had the best weekend of camping at Down by the Hawkesbury. The site is so beautiful, and the facilities (particularly the undercover area) are excellent. The pizza oven had to change nationality for our curry night, so it could produce K & T’s amazing naan bread.
Our group all had a wonderful time and we are so looking forward to our next stay at the end of the year.
Thank you so much Megan and Trevor, you both made our stay so easy to arrange, and it was great when Trevor brought the dogs down to say hello.
We would certainly recommend Down by the Hawkesbury to others, but please don’t book it when we want to visit!!

Loved camping here! Megan and Trevor provided all the essentials we needed! A warm shower, a toilet and a perfect hut with a gorgeous fireplace. Direct access to the water so the kids could splash. We will definitely return! Thanks so much guys!

We had a great time camping at Shady Acres. Lisa was great and very helpful. There was plenty of space, and lots of firewood available which we really appreciated. The river was lovely for a swim. We loved the sounds of the birds in the morning.
The location was easy to find in the daylight but a little tricky to find at night time. We would definitely recommend!

This campsite was honestly a dream. We had the whole place to ourselves and it felt like our own private getaway. Super peaceful, heaps of space, and nothing but nature around us. Nights by the fire under the stars were unreal, and mornings were just as good waking up to birds instead of alarms.
It was clean, easy, and way more comfortable than we expected. Perfect mix of adventure and chill. If you’re after a camping spot that feels private and special, this is the one. Megan and Trev were very accommodating and super easy to deal with, the pups Coco pops and Millie were a pleasure to have around, Timmy on the neighbouring property was an good bloke Already planning our next trip back!
