It's the perfect spot to enjoy the spectacular Mudgee sunsets, or even take a short stroll to Hillsdale's Shepherds Lookout where you can enjoy breath taking views whilst enjoying a glass of local wine or beer.
We provide a large firepit and feel free to collect or cut wood from fallen trees. Use of the firepit is subject to local weather and restrictions/bans.
Campers are asked to take all rubbish away with them and camping toilet cassettes to be removed from the property.
We can provide access to potable water if required.
Hillsdale is for 4WD drivers only and suits campers who want a peaceful and private place to stay within easy access of all that Mudgee has to offer.
We welcome, adventurous campers or wildlife lovers who want to stay off grid in privacy in a pitched tent, roof top, or 4WD caravans. Or for the really adventurous enjoy the stars at night in your swag.
Well behaved pets are permitted and are likely to enjoy a swim in the dam.
Fishing is available off property but close by. For the more serious fisherman go to Windamere Dam less than 15 minutes away.

Natural bushland consisting of 80 acres with the Crudine River along the boundary. We are part of the Sofala gold rush history (from the 1850s), sit back and imagine gold miners and their families camped along the banks.
There are two campsites, Camp Crudine Kitchen and Camp Crudine Riverside. When you make your booking whether for 2 people or a group of family and friends the chosen campsite is all yours for the length of your stay.
If you need supplies Sofala is just 8 km away, drop in and explore the town. Hill End is 28 km which is another Historic town to explore.
Camp Crudine is great for kids and adults alike to have a go at panning for gold or try out the metal detector. All findings must be returned to the host, lol.
Campfires must comply with the local fire restrictions and guideline and must be contained in the fire pits provided. Bonfires are not permitted at any time. We recommend campers bring their own firewood as campers are requested to source only small amounts of firewood along the riverbank. Under no circumstances are trees to be cut down. Firewood is available at the Sofala General Store.
Campers are required to bring everything they need and take all rubbish when leaving.
Dogs are welcome but they must be supervised and under control at all times.
The owner has livestock on the property which must be respected at all times.

Artisans Park is located 45 minutes from Bathurst and is the closest city for food and fuel. We do not have local shops or fuel stations.
The London bus is suitable for children as the upper deck houses the bedroom. The lower deck houses the kitchen and bathroom with a front deck complete with barbecue and amazing views.
Relax and watch the kangaroos and eagles from your private deck. Summer swimming in the crystal clear river and winter camp fires where you can toast marshmallows.
The lower level has a cooktop "no oven or fridge share fridge at entrance of park", outside gas BBQ and tables. You will need to bring your own drinking water.
There is a toilet and shower downstairs.
The top deck has two small single beds and one double, quilts and pillows however BYO linen sheets and towels.
This bus has featured on many TV shows and is often featured
in travel magazines, including

In the early 1970’s Mr James, the owner of 'Biara', subdivided three 25 acre blocks across the road from the original homestead. The first block was sold to his nephew, the middle block was to be purchased by the Preston family and ‘The Gateway’ was purchased by a Mr Carveth.
Unfortunately, the sale of the middle block fell through then, due to family illness, 'Biara' was sold and the family moved to Blackheath. After this move, and as thank you to his son, Mr James transferred the title of the middle of the three subdivided blocks to his only son, William.
Back in the late 1960’s, early 1970’s, the area was vastly different than it is today. Travelling to school entailed a car trip to Hargraves then bus to Mudgee which would have been a 2 hour round trip! The area was far more isolated as there was no power and entailed an overland phone line, which had to be regularly repaired if residents wanted to be able to communicate with the outside world.
The site allows mainly for camping and relaxing although there are numerous dirt roads to explore, Mudgee wineries close by and Burrendong Dam not far away (accessible via Hill End Road near Erudgere). Hargraves is also known for it's alluvial gold deposits and fossickers still go there regularly to check out Louisa Creek.
There is 15km's of dirt road which needs to be traveled to reach the property. Dependent on weather, and if it has been graded recently, this road can be in varying states of repair. In heavy rain it may be difficult to get 2WD access via the public road due to the clay content in the road .
Kangaroo, wallaby, owl species, kookaburra, echidna, snakes, various lizards, including shinglebacks, are often seen on these roads and the property.

Looking for some peace and tranquility? We'd love for you to enjoy a spot in front of our creek on our 53 acre property, Brazenhead, which is surrounded by 1.3kms of the Winburndale Rivulet. Brazenhead is a 15 minute drive to the closest shops, 20 minutes into Bathurst, 30 minutes from Sofala and 1 hour from the historic Hill End.
There is ample space for groups, with wide open spaces but also plenty of trees for shade. Fires are permitted in the spots provided and according to local fire restrictions.
The creek is a good spot to try some gold panning, go exploring and also has some deep swimming holes for you to enjoy.
Pitch your tent or pull up your camping vehicle next to our creek! You will have complete privacy, only the kangaroos and other wildlife to share your trip with.
There is plenty of space for the kids to run around, kick a ball, play some cricket, or go exploring along the creek during the day. In the evenings everyone can sit and relax in the quiet in front of a campfire.
We welcome only self-contained campers who bring their own camping toilet/shower. The campsite is 2WD accessible with plenty of room and flat space to camp on.
Not far from our property you can find the Bridle Track, which is very well known by 4WD enthusiasts. It was originally built as the first road between Bathurst and Hill End during the gold rush era, and was given its name due to horsemen having to dismount and guide their horses by the bridle through the very narrow sections.
If you visit in November you may be here for the annual Marmalade Festival, with good weather, musicians, stalls and of course jams and marmalades!

The river itself is alive with platypus, water dragons and rakali (native water rats). Wombats have made their homes in the riverbanks, and you may find yourself sharing the space with these quiet, nocturnal neighbours.

Looking for some peace and tranquility? We'd love for you to enjoy a spot in front of our creek on our 53 acre property, Brazenhead, which is surrounded by 1.3kms of the Winburndale Rivulet. Brazenhead is a 15 minute drive to the closest shops, 20 minutes into Bathurst, 30 minutes from Sofala and 1 hour from the historic Hill End.
There is ample space for groups, with wide open spaces but also plenty of trees for shade. Fires are permitted in the spots provided and according to local fire restrictions.
The creek is a good spot to try some gold panning, go exploring and also has some deep swimming holes for you to enjoy.
Pitch your tent or pull up your camping vehicle next to our creek! You will have complete privacy, only the kangaroos and other wildlife to share your trip with.
There is plenty of space for the kids to run around, kick a ball, play some cricket, or go exploring along the creek during the day. In the evenings everyone can sit and relax in the quiet in front of a campfire.
We welcome only self-contained campers who bring their own camping toilet/shower. The campsite is 2WD accessible with plenty of room and flat space to camp on.
Not far from our property you can find the Bridle Track, which is very well known by 4WD enthusiasts. It was originally built as the first road between Bathurst and Hill End during the gold rush era, and was given its name due to horsemen having to dismount and guide their horses by the bridle through the very narrow sections.
If you visit in November you may be here for the annual Marmalade Festival, with good weather, musicians, stalls and of course jams and marmalades!

Here, time slows. Days unfold to the steady rhythm of flowing water, birdsong and the soft whisper of sheoaks moving in the wind. It’s a place to unplug, exhale and reconnect — with nature, with one another, and with your own creativity.
Many stories and dreamings have emerged from this landscape. Artists, writers, poets and musicians often find it a place of deep inspiration and reflection.
A walk along Killongbutta Road reveals sweeping rural vistas across Wiradjuri Country —a river valley layered with history, including ancient stone quarry sites, corroboree grounds and the resting place of a warrior.
The river itself is alive with platypus, water dragons and rakali (native water rats). Wombats have made their homes in the riverbanks, and you may find yourself sharing the space with these quiet, nocturnal neighbours.

Each campsite offers its own unique features for you to enjoy and a hand crafted pit toilet is accessible to those camped along the river bank.

Our property is a mixture of pasture & bush, with various campsites situated either on the Fish River or secluded bush sites. There are numerous secluded sites and ample room for exploring the scrub, rocks and river. We move the campsites around depending on water levels and the size of the group booking.

Camping at Watton Airfield was so perfect we extended twice and stayed 8 nights. It was so peaceful… the gorgeous river, grass mowed like a park, stars, horses, alpacas, platypus. I love this place. Currently my #1 camping spot after a perfect weekend.
We saw Kangaroos, Wallaroos, Wallabies, Deer, Parrots, Wombat, fish and a whole family of Platypuses!
The site is wonderful, easy access to the river but the driveway is definately sketchy if you have a normal 2wd car. Pay attention to Marge's instructions and weather.
Marge is also lovely and came to warn us about a storm coming as there was no mobile reception.
Even with the storm, best camping ever.
Thanks for hosting us Marge and allowing us to camp on your land. What a beatiful, wonderful spot you have.
If you do end up going. Respect the place and animals. Sit down and be quiet and allow the bush to show you all she has. You will not be disapointed.

When I booked to stay I also ordered a fresh loaf of home made bread, Tammie met me at the front door on our arrival with the freshly baked hot loaf of bread, straight from the oven. Definitely need a 4WD to get down to the river over the rocky road. Well worth the drive. We loved camping at the Rivers Edge for a couple of days. Very spacious with green grass, the sound of running water, no phone or wi-fi made it very relaxing for us. Would definitely camp there again in any of the camp spots and will recommend to family and friends.

This was our first time with our camper trailer and this place was amazing. The hosts were even better. We stayed at the deep spot. Great swim spot in the river right at your site. A nice distance from your closest neighbours. Horses walk by. One in particular demands a bit of attention so you better give him a neck rub.
To the owners. Lovely people. Make sure you chat with Damien he has a great day trip you can do if you’re into driving along a river. Which clearly if you’re going to stay here you are. At the end of that is the coolest little town with an awesome pub you can’t not pop in for a bev.
Yeah I sound pretty positive about all this so I better drop a negative. There is a possum that is quite interested in what you may leave out for him. He is a fan of cereal. We had an awesome time and will tell everyone I know to make this a stop if heading around the Bathurst area. Oh yeah and only 20 minutes into Bathurst that has a lot to offer. Couldn’t go wrong with this place absolutely loved it. Thanks heaps Damien and Tammie

We absolutely loved the location , of green grass horses and even saw a platypus . Damien was an amazing host we didn’t get to meet Tammie but I’m sure she is as lovely as Damien.
Just a very , very challenging steep rutted dirt road to get to the little slice of paradise . My wife preferred to get out and walk as it was our first trip with our new van . All good and it was a great workout for both car and van . Well worth the challenge ! We hope to return one day .

We loved our time camping at the rivers edge site. It was so peaceful. The horses wandering quietly through were beautiful and calm. Our doggos also had a lovely time, as the other campers we far enough away for them to have some off leash time without worrying anyone else. Seriously beautiful spot, would loved to have been able to stay longer.
