Bathurst, NSW · 1 site · Tent, RV
Ideal for groups and those seeking privacy as you have the river site all to yourselves. This secure site with toilet sits on the banks of the Wambuul–Macquarie River in the remote Killongbutta Valley, midway between Bathurst and Orange. Here, time slows. Days unfold to the steady rhythm of flowing water, birdsong and the soft whisper of sheoaks moving in the wind. It’s a place to unplug, exhale and reconnect — with nature, with one another, and with your own creativity. Many stories and dreamings have emerged from this landscape. Artists, writers, poets and musicians often find it a place of deep inspiration and reflection. A walk along Killongbutta Road reveals sweeping rural vistas across Wiradjuri Country —a river valley layered with history, including ancient stone quarry sites, corroboree grounds and the resting place of a warrior. The river itself is alive with platypus, water dragons and rakali (native water rats). Wombats have made their homes in the riverbanks, and you may find yourself sharing the space with these quiet, nocturnal neighbours. Exclusive Access, single site Pets Welcomed 2WD access in dry weather only 4WD access in wet Single Axle vans and trailers only Short, steep descent to the site with two tight corners (not suitable for large caravans or RVs) No wifi or mobile reception Newly constructed long-drop toilet BYO firewood (supplies in the area are now limited) Please take all rubbish with you Children under 12 stay free to support young families wanting to experience the bush. Please include them in your booking so we can plan accordingly. Not permitted: shooting, trapping, illegal fishing, motorbikes, quad bikes or other noisy machinery. Killongbutta Road runs off Freemantle Road, approximately 36 km from Bathurst, and 40 km from Orange via Gowan Road and Lower Lewis Ponds Road. About Us On the Stone is a podcast and publishing studio specialising in social histories. We care deeply about local history and the stories embedded in this landscape, and are always happy to share what we know. Thank you to all the campers who have stayed at our retreat. You have all been wonderful, caring for our property and writing great reviews. The drop loo is taking on its own character with your messages and artworks.

Looking for some peace and tranquility? We'd love for you to enjoy a spot in front of our creek on our 53 acre property, Brazenhead, which is surrounded by 1.3kms of the Winburndale Rivulet. Brazenhead is a 15 minute drive to the closest shops, 20 minutes into Bathurst, 30 minutes from Sofala and 1 hour from the historic Hill End. There is ample space for groups, with wide open spaces but also plenty of trees for shade. Fires are permitted in the spots provided and according to local fire restrictions. The creek is a good spot to try some gold panning, go exploring and also has some deep swimming holes for you to enjoy. Pitch your tent or pull up your camping vehicle next to our creek! You will have complete privacy, only the kangaroos and other wildlife to share your trip with. There is plenty of space for the kids to run around, kick a ball, play some cricket, or go exploring along the creek during the day. In the evenings everyone can sit and relax in the quiet in front of a campfire. We welcome only self-contained campers who bring their own camping toilet/shower. The campsite is 2WD accessible with plenty of room and flat space to camp on. Not far from our property you can find the Bridle Track, which is very well known by 4WD enthusiasts. It was originally built as the first road between Bathurst and Hill End during the gold rush era, and was given its name due to horsemen having to dismount and guide their horses by the bridle through the very narrow sections. If you visit in November you may be here for the annual Marmalade Festival, with good weather, musicians, stalls and of course jams and marmalades! No pets please.

We are Marilyn and Peter, we own, live and run a mixed farming business from this beautiful land, located in the Central Tablelands NSW. The country varies between undulating and steep land and has 7 km of double frontage Bell River running through it. The river can range from rapidly flowing to the more usual steady flowing and is most often very clear. The river has numerous swimming spots, some with a rocky base, and some with sand. The winding river and the varying countryside is incredibly peaceful and beautiful and is a perfect retreat for those looking to disconnect and relax. The river has its origin near Orange and is also fed into by many springs. Weandre Creek runs in the backcountry and winds into the Bell River. Our comfortable Hut is situated on an elevated spot looking down on the river with a graduated road leading down. It has everything you need for a relaxing, recharging stay in nature. The Hut can accommodate up to 4 people, however, you also have the option for up to 6 additional guests to set up swags, tents, or a camper trailer nearby. There is space next to the Hut, or for those with a 4WD, there are some lovely camping sites down by the river. We also offer sites for those looking for a self-contained camping site, in a beautiful location. We love the solitude, the endless bush walks, swimming, and being immersed in nature. We are confident you will too. We also have a lovely art gallery on the property, and for a small fee and prior arrangement, you are welcome to come and take a look. From our farm, it is 60 km to Orange with all its wineries, food festivals, and many attractions. Wellington is 40 km and boasts the Wellington Caves. Dubbo is 90 km and is a big inland city and boasts the Western Plains Zoo. We are so glad to let you know we have a new (but intentionally rustic) structure which houses a shower powered by gas and solar with gravity fed water. Showers need to be short because water supply is limited. In a separate space is a gas BBQ and sink. This is pictured in our latest photos. This building also looks down on the Bell river which looks sensational at the moment due to all the rain.
