Whether you prefer hills and canyons or sand and surf, camping near Irvine lets you get out of the suburbs and into nature in a matter of minutes. Take your family or college reunion group camping at Sycamore Flats or Hickey Creek in the Arroyo Campground section of O'Neill Regional Park, or ride your horses in to the Hermon Equestrian Camping area. Also accessible by horse is the Ortega Flats Campground in Caspers Wilderness Park, which also offers RV hookups if you prefer more modern types of horsepower. More campsites large enough for big groups are available at the Falcon Group Campground in the Cleveland National Forest. If beach camping is more your thing, you're in luck. Pitch your tent at a variety of private land and California state beaches. Notable sandy adventures include San Clemente, San Onofre and Doheny State Beaches, as well as at Crystal Cove State Park, where you can stroll down the beach with the waves licking your ankles to the historic Shake Shack (no, not the New York-based chain!) to enjoy a fabulous ice cream concoction.
