Spacious, beautiful site (T5). Clean restrooms. Affordable ice & water to combat the heat. Wonderful hosts. And no mosquitos! (but plenty of ants). An excellent way to unwind during the 4th of July weekend. Thank you Tony & Michele!
Our stay at Patti’s Shaded Campground was a delight from start to finish. When we arrived, we were greeted and given a quick tour of the lovely property. We met ZZ and Clover, two really good doggies who made us feel right at home. After setting up camp, our host, Patti, gave us a more thorough tour of the property and the river. We ended up having a great conversation with Patti about her property, her kayaking business, and Navasota. She was super friendly and hospitable; we felt like welcome guests on her land.
The campsites were well maintained, and each offered a small stone table. There was plenty of space on the property. There were three individual bathrooms nearby, at least one of which was equipped with a shower. The bathrooms were clean and well stocked.
The river is the true gem of this campsite. We were the only campers there during our stay, so we were fortunate enough to have the whole river to ourselves. We stayed out there for several hours and didn’t see another person the entire time. There had been lots of rain in the weeks just prior to our stay, so the river was considerably higher and more forceful than usual.
The campsites are super shady and comfortable. On one side of the sites is a mellow field of berries. On the other side is a small bamboo tree-line with an opening that leads to the river. Between the large trees that cover the campsites and the bamboo near the river is an open grassy area with a fire pit. In the evening, we wandered out to this area to watch the sky fade into a pink and orange glow. We then went down to the river and watched the sun set over the water. It was magical to be the only ones out there during such a beautiful scene. At night, we lit a fire and gazed up at the open sky. The stars were well represented out in the country. The next morning, as we left the campgrounds, we stopped in a sunflower field just across the road before returning home.
Although we want this campground to remain a hidden wonder known to few, we also want other hipcampers to experience the magic of Patti’s Shaded Campground. This place has so much to offer as a natural escape. We highly recommend it!
Redwood Ring was our favorite campsite we've ever visited. My boyfriend and I had an amazing stay there, and we'll definitely be coming back in the future.
The host gave us a thorough introduction to the area and lots of tips for avoiding ticks and poison oak. Our favorite things were the hammock, exploring nearby Memorial Park and waking up to the magnificent serenity of the redwood forest. What could be better?
