in Woolman at Sierra Friends Center, CaliforniaVery secluded, beautiful location! Easy access to Grass Valley and Nevada City. The A-frame cabins are cozy, there are bathrooms and showers on the property, as well as a large common building with full kitchen and living/dining room. Would definitely stay there again!
Llama Land
in Llama Mama Land, CaliforniaTanya is very nice and accommodating. When we first arrived, she helped us find the perfect spot to set up our tent. She had a water hose and an extension cord dragged over to the spot so that we could charge our electronics and have access to water. There are 3 llamas and 3 goats (maybe 4 goats) and they are very friendly. I was petting one of the goats and he was rubbing his head against me like a cat. The only caveat is that he had horns! So a couple of times he was rubbing against me and he almost hooked me! I really enjoyed being near the animals and I only wish that there were even MORE llamas and goats to play with.
One downside is that, while it feels extremely secluded, Llama Land is close enough to a highway that you can hear the highway noise at night, but it wasn't too bad.
The location is excellent as it is minutes from Grass Valley, which is an adorable little town with lots of shops and restaurants. It is also about an hour from the North Shore of Lake Tahoe, which is where we were headed (from Sacramento) so it was perfect.
If you're prepared to "rough it" and you want a quiet place in the woods AND you like animals, you should definitely camp at Llama Land!
