Reflections on WOOLMAN
Woolman has a Quaker history that is well worth looking into before one journeys there to visit. I have found it the perfect place to reconnect with myself and nature. The hosts at Woolman are exemplary. They provide a simple, safe, and ever morphing space to engage guests at the level they are at while staying true to a non pretentious, yet comfortable, way of living in an ever changing world. I go here to hear myself think, to write, and to simply be in the natural beauty of the Sierra foothills. It is a place I can just simply be without the distractions or push of modern society. Disclaimer... if you want more distractions they can be found, I just haven’t wanted to go that route as of yet. The Yuba River is calling (as is the local brewery in town:) but those are for another trip; perhaps.

Fall colors were striking, even this late in the season. The summer season fire ban was finally lifted and fireside reading at the cabin stove was very homey and cozy.

Retreat with some creature comforts
Our stay at the A-Frame cabin in early November was the best! The cabin was cozy and easy to warm with either the provided space heater or by lighting a fire in the cabin’s wood-fired stove. The bathhouse was nearby and had flush toilets (one with a bidet built in!) and lovely hot water showers. We had a great time preparing meals at the picnic table right outside our cabin door. It was nestled in the woods so we could feel close to nature, but still had electricity and wifi so weren’t totally roughing it. Peaceful, pretty and a great weekend away!!

Great remote work spot!
I stayed in an A-frame at Woolman because I wanted a place where I could remote work for a couple of weeks without paying through the nose. Everything worked out great! I had pretty good, consistent signal, and it was great that when I took breaks from my work I was somewhere so serene. The power went out one morning (not uncommon apparently), and they offered to let me work in the main office which would be powered by generators - but then the power was restored and there were no more issues.

Curious Deer
I had several days of quiet retreat. #12 Penstemon is at the end away from other cabins and I was visited by four curious deer one afternoon. Wild turkeys and quail roam the area. The stars are so bright at night. Water and bathrooms are a few steps away. #10 is closer to bathrooms if that matters to you. Next time I want to attend the Friends Meeting on Sunday morning.

Dog friendly.
The A frame was clean and well equipped. Love that our dogs could come. Two twins not a queen is the only less than desirable aspect. The bathroom was clean and everything was fine. We didn’t find much to do there but left the campground for swimming holes and to go see Nevada city and Grass Valley downtowns. Quick easy drive to those towns.

Woolman; the perfect retreat
If you are looking for a quiet, safe, pleasant shelter in a serene setting with basic amenities, an a frame at Sierra friends center is it.
It is my preferred place for solitude to retreat and write. The grounds include hiking trails that further completes the need to go nowhere.
If you plan as you would a car camping trip minus the tent, you will be all set. The bath house has showers, sinks and flush toilets.
I do recommend a small lamp, battery or electric, as it provides the touch of ambience that completes a homey feeling.
When I need time to destress and reconnect with nature and myself, I come here.

Camping with animals allowed.
Very peaceful and quiet location. Easy check-in and check-out, our cabin was clean and ready for us. Hosts were friendly and informative. We were able to take our two pups and there is plenty to do near the camp and plenty of hiking.

One of a Kind Experience
This was so so so cute. I loved this whole experience. The cabins were perfect. I went to wipe things down and there wasn't any dust. A few spiders, but it was likely because no one was there a couple of nights prior. The location was easy to find in the dark (I arrived quite late). It was also super quiet, even with the stargazing event going on, you wouldn't even know there was a large group of people there. We couldn't use the stoves in the cabins, but bc it was so hot, it was almost nicer to use the propane stove to cook on the picnic table.
I had a lot of fun here, and we will definitely be coming back. We even drove down the road not even 5 miles and parked and walked to the Yuba River. I had NO IDEA how gorgeous it was!
Although the whole campground in general definitely a little aged, and needs a little face lift in some areas, you can tell some of the cabins have newer roofs, and they are working on things.
Honestly, to have a clean and safe place to stay in the middle of the woods, clean bathrooms with flush toilets, and a shower that has great water pressure and gets warm was good enough for us! :)
Thank you for having us, and we can't wait to come back!!!

Lovely 'summer camp' experience
This was such a great spot to stay. When checking in the host was super helpful and friendly and very good at communicating any updates. The A-frame cabin we stayed in was very cozy and clean and exactly as expected. The whole area was really cute, we walked around and explored the farm area as well as the creek and a few of the trails. It was in a great location that was a 15 min drive from some really nice swimming spots on the Yuba river so we definitely took advantage of that. The only thing that I would note is that we went in the dead of the summer and the A-frame holds quite a bit of heat into the night. If I come back to stay again in the summer I will definitely make sure to bring a fan of some sort with me :)

Woolman’s cabins are very nice. Each has a parking space, picnic table and a little space from the neighbor. The campus is near enough town to be convenient without being in the middle of the crowds. Great base camp for many activities in the foothills.

We showed up and checked ourselves in, and realized our a frame did not have any bedding as pictured in the photos. The paint was peeling on the walls, there were spiders in our bed, and the place was completely dusty and isolated in a creepy kind of way. Unfortunately we left about 10 minutes after we arrived and went home. Hopefully we get a refund.

The area is beautiful. The A fames are well built, have character, have electricity, and decently comfortable beds. Take a look at pictures to get a good idea. This was my second visit and I hope to fit in another this year. I’m a big fan of the peace and quiet and low ambient light so you can see the stars. It’s easier set up than camping which makes it nice for a quick weekend get away. But you still have to bring your own sleep and cookware, so depending on if you have those things already, might be or might not be as easy. Love the self check in, the clean restrooms, and the relaxed atmosphere. It’s a fun lil adventure driving in as well. Much thanks to the Woolman folks for sharing this place :)

Great get away from city noise
Off the beaten path... you have as much noise that you make, that is, beyond the turkeys, the wind blowing through the trees, and the small creek gurgling. I recommend choosing this as a place to just be, take a book, a meditation cushion, or earphones for symphonies. Come for the quiet and then go to town or the river for noise and a splash.
