This is a really great location and would recommend this site to others. The four sites are very carefully cut into the meadow and each site surrounded by pine trees for privacy. A path is also cut from each site that provides a walkway to the portajohn. There is a walking track cut round the perimeter of the property for an early morning walk and a small sports court cut into the bottom of the meadow with games suitable for children and adults alike. There is also an excellent play area for young children at the back of the house.
Edith was a great host and had two jugs of water, hand sanitizer and a small vase of flowers on the picnic table when we arrived; a very thoughtful touch. The portajohn was kept exceptionally clean and cleaned every day.
The location is great for Traverse City and the Manistee River trails and surrounding rivers and lakes. Add it to your list
This was our first time at House of Bear. Great variety of designated sites or you could choose your own. Sites provided good privacy but you also ran into the others campers to socialize. Bear was a great host, very friendly, helpful and accomodating, he checked in every day will all groups on site to make sure everything was ok. Good central location for hiking, Traverse City and kayaking. I would go back and recommend this location to others.
Very tranquil and peaceful location. The river on the property is a great way to spend time and relax. Would recommend this location if you want to get away from the hussle and bussle for a couple of days. Luzerne is only 20 mins away if you want to rent a kayak and spend the day on the river..
This is our fourth trip to Moonshadow. It's the perfect spot for just a night or an extended stay. The amenities are fantastic and make it an easy and comfortable experience. With close proximity to so many great attractions it's should be on every Hip campers list. Robb and Jeanne do a great job to keep the place in great shape with everything you need for a relaxing break
Another great weekend at moonshadow with Rob and Jeanne. This is a great location for any length of stay. The amenities are like no where else and make for a very comfortable visit. The hot outdoor shower in the morning is a great way to start the day. The shared kitchen and fire create a great community and a chance to meet new people. Rob and Jeanne are great hosts and created a great safe space.
We loved it here. Rob and Jeanne are fabulous hosts and provide a really comfortable camping experience. Hot running water and squeaky clean porta potties, we were spoiled rotten! Loved the outside showers. Looking forward to our next visit already..
This wasn't what we expected. The camp sites were wide open fields , with the road running in front, but we found a corner in the last field, with the river running behind us and it was wonderful!
The options for camping here are endless. Stay in the fields or hike up into the forest and look over the entire area. Hiked the logging trails, washed in the stream and built a fire circle. Thank you Caleb!!
Great location, large open camp site but plenty space if there are other campers, good mix of berries and animals, well stocked woodpile and farmers market on the property and great sunrise and sunsets. Nice to have a campers only toilet and shower. Karen is a very welcoming host. You can just hang out or get onto Lake Michigan in 10 minutes. Definitely worth a visit
