Very cool place to camp. There was a pavilion within walking distance from the campsite with a heated outdoor pool, a covered eating area with BBQ pit, restrooms and showers. The hosts were super nice and gave of some insight on what goes on in town to take the kids to next time (i.e. museums, annual longhorn run through town in bandera... etc) They had a mardi gras celebration going on the weekend we stayed there, but we didn't mind hearing the music - they had a good selection of songs we danced to by the campfire :) They had invited us to join them & offered us firewood too. We camped by the dry creek bed which was closest to the pavilion. They also have 2 really cool Teepee's set up and a bubble tent, several log cabins to rent out all in the same area, near the pavilion. Pipe Creek was pretty shallow, we weren't able to fish in this area and in this time of year. Overall, definitely would recommend this place if you want to glamp it up.

We had a great time at Al's Hideaway! We had a little bit of rain which was not a problem as the pavilion was a great place to hang out while it passed. Our Host was very helpful. The outdoor kitchen was amazing and we used it a lot! Thanks for a great weekend.

This campsite is the perfect mixture of new age cabin camping and old school tent camping. You can rent a cabin with AC and WiFi capabilities, or you can pitch a tent in the 20 acres of wilderness. They have fire pits, RV hookups, a pavilion with grills available, a pool, a creek and plenty of nature. With restrooms and showers available, you can stay as long as you want without giving up the ability to primp if need be. Al himself was incredibly delightful and helpful and his pups Sammy and Betty are super sweet and friendly. I would absolutely recommend this location for any of your camping needs.

This was our first stay at Al's Hideaway, and hopefully the first of many more to come. I was looking for a nice, quiet, out-of-the-way spot where my 3 kids and I could enjoy nature and test out some new gear without being crowded out. We normally like to try out as many state parks as we can, but COVID-19 and 100+ temps really put a damper on our Summer camping plans. So I was delighted to find that Al's Hideaway had space available for tent camping over Labor Day weekend.
The first things we noticed were the peaceful country setting and the abundance of amenities available on the property. The communal outdoor kitchen is fantastic, and we really enjoyed having access to outdoor games like horseshoes, a volleyball court, and cornhole without having to wait in line for others to finish. The swimming pool and fan-cooled pavillion provide a refreshing escape from the Texas heat.
The kids were thrilled by the novelty of having teepees available for rent, and I was appreciative of the tidiness and visual aesthetic of the dozen-or-so log cabins. While there was no water available at the tent sites, this was not a problem at all, thanks to the well-positioned bathroom facility. We didn't get a chance to explore the property as much as we would have liked, so we vowed to return in the future for another stay...perhaps in a teepee.
The hosts are genuinely nice people who seem to intuitively know what their guests require. If you are socially inclined, they are inclined to engage and entertain. If you are more introverted and seek peace and quiet, they are sure to check that your needs are met, but let you have your space.
One thing that really stood out to us was the absolute lack of mosquitos on this property. We came well-prepared to do battle with these vicious little nasties, as is our custom. But our arsenal was just extra weight we could have left at home. I don't know how they did it, but somehow this place seems to be a hidden vortex into another dimension where mosquitos don't exist.
Overall, we had a wonderful experience at Al's Hideaway, and I highly recommend that anyone considering a stay here should just stop searching and book it now. You won't regret it.
