SITE SPECIFICS: This small group site is for those who want a gathering of family members, friends or small events.  This site will fit 6 tents or 3 rv vehicles, or any combination of such with 10 guests total, This a quiet escape for those who want to experience the serenity of the outdoors yet with the comfort of a few amenities nearby. This is a beautiful space with several Juniper trees providing an adequate amount of shade along the base of the red rock formation.

WHAT TO EXPECT: There are several hiking trails in the area as well as bicycling & 4 wheel drive trails on BLM (public land). This IS the Wild, Rustic, Dirty Desert, not for Everyone.  This is Camping and keep in mind this is a rugged camping experience not for the faint at heart. The desert is Hot in the summer and cold in the winter, the weather is Unpredictable and you May experience our Wild storms...Monsoon season runs from July-August which is amazing if you are into photography. Be sure to bring proper gear for the rain (if we get any). You may hear coyotes, see spiders, experience the annoying desert gnats at certain times of the day during the hotter summer season. You will want to bring bug spray, but if you forgot we do sell it in our camp store. If you stay with us you will get the experience of desert camping, wild, raw and rugged. It is an amazing experience to be had, with beautiful views and the feeling of freedom that is hard to find in more civilized and populated locations. The rocks nearby are kid friendly, great for climbing and taking amazing photos of our fantastic views and gorgeous sunsets.

BATHHOUSE: There is a Bathhouse with Showers and Flush Toilets. Showers are with a Token and must be purchased during store hours. The bathhouse is shared with other campers and gets dirty. We are surrounded by red dirt. Toilets get clogged, this happens in public bathrooms. It is cleaned everyday. The bathhouse is operational while under construction.

Thank you Amber and Caleb for taking on the stewardship of this land. We loved our two nights here. We appreciated the quiet, no WiFi ( available in the park a mile away if needed) no music, no generators, campsites with shade and far enough apart for privacy and solitude. Amazing views and absolute peace.
I loved your story of how you became to be the caretakers, Caleb. (We met outside the bathroom as you were on your way in to clear a shower drain.)
For anyone coming here please remember this is wilderness. This is tough terrain that takes a lot of work to maintain. What you may lose in the way of amenities is by far made up for in the opportunity to switch off and truly escape for a while. And great access to the park.
Keep working on the property. And please continue your mission as carers of this slice of heaven.

The camp site was great. A good sunset view and plenty of room for our group. Our family has been coming to this location for about 30 years and have had good times at this funky campground. Unfortunately, the bathhouse is still a 30 year old building. The toilets have been updated with nice dual-flush models. However, the rest is old and worn-out. Only 1 shower and only 1 sink worked on each side. The shower had a plunger to unclog the drain, and it was needed. One morning the bathhouse ran out of water making it unusable for hours. The alternative was to drive 1 1/2 miles to the park Visitor Center. They appear to be trying to get into the "Glamping" business but it takes more than a fancy canvas tent and a nice picnic table to be glam'. They need to be as concerned about their guest's comfort as they are about their 5 MPH speed limit.

AWESOME LOCATION! Loved everything about our stay, especially the quiet. There are few places today that enforce that ideology. I go to nature to connect, and Needles Outpost delivered.

the needles outpost is a hidden gem! i can't recommend it highly enough. you are basically in the park, that alone is breathtaking, & you have the added bonus of a great little store, amber's pottery, as well as other local artists. whatever else you might need, amber is there to help, and it's all off grid! :) it is a labor of love, you won't be disappointed...

The photos can't capture the true beauty of this site. We had great privacy and the views in all directions were spectacular. The camp hostess, Amber, was very kind and helpful. She went above and beyond. My daughter and her family were to meet me at the campsite, but the Hwy from Colorado was closed for 2 hours due to an accident. Amber walked all the way to my site in the dark to let me know she had received a message from my daughter. Since I had no cell or Wi-Fi, I would have been worried all night had she not been so considerate. She even made a second trip out to tell me of a further delay. It was great to take a hot shower, and the flush toilets were a welcome sight! The picnic table and fire ring were A+. The firewood they sell is well cured. Thank you Amber for making me feel special on my birthday!

We were not able to make our stay due to our generator going out on our rental RV and no longer being self contained. Had to make alternate camping plans last minute. We were so excited to stay and Amber was great with her communications and follow up. We hope that we can stay at Small Group Site at the Rocks in the future.

If there is a more remote place to stay in this region without obtaining back country permits, bring it on. Primitive enough for me, and having showers available made it worthy for my wife and family. The land itself has great energy.

We had three days at the Small Group Site at the Rocks, at Needles Outpost. They offer just enough to sustain a bit of desert boondocking - ice; a bit a shade (in the Small Group Site and others); sink to wash dishes (allows you to save some of your water); tokens for the bath house, gorgeous views, sunsets and stars - glorious day and night! In early June, it was hot - low 90's dropping to low 70's at night; lot's of red sand to deal with; not buggy at all; loved all the lizards; beautiful camp setting. Would highly recommend!
