Past trips
Bluebird Tiny House
in Birdsong Backcountry Retreat, CaliforniaBeautiful space, very comfortable and peaceful. The outdoor space is just phenomenal with hares and birds and chipmunks! Would definitely come back. The couch/bed worked for our teenager but not really for a full grown human!
Basecamp At Sunset Hideaway
in Basecamp Palomar, CaliforniaCity-close camping
Sunset Basecamp is a beautiful spot and close to civilization in case you forget anything and need to get into town. There were lots of positives: big space, fun boulders to climb, an awesome "cowboy pool" to cool off on a hot day, gorgeous view and awesome resident dogs (Hank and Lola) - Hank acted like a calming presence for our yippy pup! All of the details were lovely - Tiki Bar, cute chickens, vegetable garden, organic wood benches and solar lights.
On the not-so-great side of things, we definitely had a few issues: 1) There was a lack of privacy for our camping spot as there was an airstream set up directly behind our space. As tent campers who had nowhere else to hang out, we were out in the open and there was a steady stream of people staying there. 2) There was no picnic table which fortunately we figured out from looking at the photos and brought a table, but that seemed odd for a campsite. 3) The porta-potty needed some servicing. 4) The most disappointing part of all (which Kerri & Jared had no control over) affected 2 out of the 3 nights we stayed there - there was a nightclub or party house across the canyon with a DJ and loud top 40 music that went on both Friday and Saturday night from 7-10. Because we live in LA and go camping to experience the quietude of nature, this was a real big bummer. The last night was lovely as we were able to hear the birds, wind, etc.
Overall, a great spot but definitely not middle-of-nowhere wilderness!
Wldflower Barbie Camp w/Hot Shower
in Cuyama Oaks Ranch, CaliforniaGreat spot!
Great set up (grill! Sink!) along with a beautiful view, gorgeous night sky and super friendly host. The petting zoo was amazing - loved seeing the newborn goats and baby pigs and of course, Larry the Turkey. Loved The hiking trails, pretty solar lights and quiet quiet quiet.
Site 2 Museum Palo Verde
in Arber-Moore's Ranch, CaliforniaOk place to crash for the nite
Vivian was very nice but this campsite wasnât what we thought it would be. Perfect spot for someone who just wants a spacious patch to pitch a tent for the night but lacking in natural beauty or solitude. Vivian provided plenty of information about the dam project but we didnât realize how close together and open the campsites were.
