in RandCher Vineyards, CaliforniaSurprise at the campsite!
Our stay at Randcher vineyards was unusual. Through no fault of Cherylâs some puppies had been dropped at the farm while Cheryl was away. I have 2 dogs; one of which is 17 and frail and one who is great with other dogs but only after a careful introduction! I was alone when I arrived, so no careful interaction was possible. My husband was driving separately and arrived later. So, I pull up, exhausted after a very long day of driving and my dogs start going crazy because they see these 2 puppies! I really didnât know what to do, so I called Cheryl! Of course, at this point I didnât know the puppies were dropped strays! I was so relieved that Cheryl instantly answered despite being on vacation. After I explained my problem with my dogs she came up with a solution. Itâs a big farm and I could park somewhere else on one of the farm roads. I escaped from the puppies and went far enough away that they didnât find us. We had a lovely quiet night. Our stay was peaceful and pleasant and Cherylâs responsiveness was fantastic. Itâs so terrible that people just drop dogs like that and, I sure hope that they find homes as they were really sweet. I would definitely stay at Randcher vineyards again. Cheryl worked with us , under unusual circumstances, to make our stay work out perfectly.

The pad was perfectly flat! What a treat! The space backs up to a creek, that you can hear, but not get to in the summer as the grasses and wildflowers are so thick. Sitting at the site in the afternoon shade of our trailer we were cool and enjoyed the birdsong and the sound of the creek. There are panorama views of the mountains. The space is quite private being set back from the houses and the road. There are very few trees in the valley, so being able to plug in and cool down our trailer with AC was a plus. As soon as the sun sets, the AC can go off and you can draw in the lovely, evening breezes. One word of advice, and this is area specific, not site specific. We were there July 3 & 4th. Fireworks went off all over the valley (not at our hosts home) and the sound really carries. If you are traveling with dogs over the 4th, I would avoid the valley in general. Luckily one of our dogs is now deaf and the other felt safe in the trailer, so they were ok. Other than the 4th of July with dogs, we highly recommend this site.

This brand new RV park is very convenient. It is flat and has good views. It is an all gravel area with some medium size trees at all but one space. All spaces have full hookups. There are picnic tables but they are not at your actual site, but nearby along the perimeter of the flat area. Sadly it not yet an ideal place for those of us traveling with dogs due to the surface area being all gravel. You would definitely want a rug for them to lie on. If you are not traveling with dogs, this site is a great place, especially for passing through. The people who run it are very nice and working hard to make this a very nice RV park.

We were looking for somewhere to sleep, away from people but close to Petrified Forest National Park. Big Spin Ranch fit the bill. The area is totally undeveloped high desert with some grass. The 1st dirt road you go down has some serious washboarding but we were able to avoid the most of it. Once you are on the last road, it is smooth, hard packed dirt. We were there when it was dry. We would not have attempted this if it had rained or snowed recently. Our vehicle is a Pleasureway CamperVan. No 4 wheel drive! You need google maps to find the coordinates once you are in the general area. It would be so very helpful if some metal fence post with reflectors marked the corner GPS points! The beauty of the area is that it is deserted! We did have to press down some weeds and tall grasses to make a smooth area for the dogs and we were super glad we had a tarp as it is very dusty. We were very happy, even with this effort until the trains started. I don't believe that anywhere along that I-40 corridor would be free of the train horns or rumble. The track is still a good mile or more away, but boy do you hear them. Worse they go all night! Luckily we could turn on the fan in our camper and drown the sound mostly out. So as a previous reviewer said - bring ear plugs! I really feel for the residents of this whole area. I drive I-40 all the time and have always seen trains, but I had no idea how many run on those tracks every day and night! The sunset was beautiful and when there were no trains it was dead silent. So, if you are fine with an unprepared site, your vehicle can make it down dirt roads, some rough, and you have your earplugs, you will love this location!
