This is the second time we have camped at Kisma and we have had an amazing experience both times. To address some of the negative reviews; Kisma is constantly adding and improving to make the experience better for campers. Yes, depending on the site you choose, you are basically camping in the drive way. But, I have looked at other sites in and around the Bar Harbor area, I don't want to camp next to 300 other people! The sites at Kisma are more private. Everyone is extremely friendly and welcoming as long as you are respectful. This is not a zoo. If you pay extra for the tour or meet and greet, they try to accommodate you, but know that you may not get to see all of the animals. The animals come first , they are not there for your entertainment and the staff/volunteers will always put the health of the animals first. The sites are more on the primitive side so this may not be for everyone. There is a porta john, hose available for water, in some cases you can make arrangements with the staff if you need something else. Kisma is within less than 30 minutes of most local attractions. So it is a great base camp. Screen tents, umbrellas, or other shade is advised as well as bug spray. All in all, we will definitely be back and I feel like we have made some life long friends. We have a second home at Kisma Preserve.
