Sherwood Camp is a gem. John and his partner were excellent and accommodating hosts. Just follow the directions and you'll find it, which makes this little spot adventurous. As you pull past the main house after checking in, you're greeted by a whole other world you aren't expecting. Down a dirt road you find a small and charming lake with a canoe and a boat dock. Wow! The campground is well appointed, with firewood and pit, plenty of rustic seating and tables, shade and a great outhouse and woodsy kitchen. We chose to pitch our tent near the pond, which was perfect and convenient, but you might like something more private or further in. We were told to be aware of poison oak, but did not suffer any issues later. Our dog Benny ran free and thoroughly enjoyed himself as much and we did. Our eleven year old fished and spend several hours floating around in the canoe, while we relaxed and took in the beautiful surroundings.

Jug Handle Creek Farm is a beautiful place! My wife and eleven year old camped here for two nights and were welcomed with open arms. It was our second stop on a road trip to Oregon from our home in Santa Monica. Check in at the main house was easy and we were able to buy some bundles of wood for $10 each. Our campsite (though the number escapes me) was one back from the meadow and absolutely perfect. We really felt as though we were out in the woods, but safe enough. Our dog loved all the interesting smells and making a fire was easy. The bathroom outhouse was super clean and the common area cooking area set up well. There are a couple of great hikes, including one to an absolutely beautiful beach by way of going under the bridge. Town is close enough for supplies and I felt our hosts were easily available for questions. This spot is likely to get very popular, but why wouldn't it. We look forward to returning next chance!!!

Summertime camping is absolutely packed, but Yosemite is always worth it. Just adjust your perspective to a "go with the flow" vibe and you'll be fine. Wintertime, on the other hand, is sublime, as the crowds have vanished and father snow brings crisp clarity. Just dress warm!

Yes, it's as though you are camping on the road and I've always been resistant to that, but a few steps away the beautiful ocean offers an escape that makes it worth it, especially if the surf is good.

This is a great "traditional" campground that gives you access to surfing the rock and fishing in the harbor all by yourself. There's a lovely nature walk across from the campsite and close proximity to cafes about 10 minutes away by car or less.

I love this place. The lake is fantastic for swimming and great to enjoy the sandy beach on the far side. Get a shake at the cafe by Church Camp and drive the Grizzly Falls.

Straight up surf camp along PCH. It's an excuse to roll out of your tent or camper into the water. Not really camping, but worth it to get out of the house and be the first one in the line up.

Always fun, especially on a south swell and close enough to the LA for easy access. Some good hikes, but on the crowded side.
