We had a fun camping trip on Stacey and Frank's magical farm. There are so many animals! The ones we met, we're very sweet. Site 5 was on the far side of an animal paddock, level and dry, tucked into a copse of trees. There was a fire ring and 4 Adirondack chairs, which was a nice touch. You do have to walk a little ways to the site from your car, but Stacey provided a wagon to help us haul our gear. The bathhouse (shower) was nice and clean, as was the portal potty. A sink would have been nice to wash hands and dishes, but the host provided a small wash tub and hand sanitizer.
I must say, we weren't expecting the animals to be in the paddock with us. It was a surprise waking up to kunekune pigs, goats, and chickens that first morning. If that happens, I recommend keeping your cooler and food in the car. It was not ideal having farm animals around when you're trying to cook/eat. The host put them in a separate paddock for the rest of the visit and after that it was fine.
There's a lovely trail that goes to a creek that's worth walking, and a loft in the old barn that is truly magical. That was a cool place to wait out the rain surprisingly quiet and not smelly even though it's above all those animals. It provided a beautiful view of the sunset and there were place stop hang hammocks.
Overall, great camping trip. Fun being around the animals, although we were grateful to have ear plugs at night. It is a farm so the roosters start crowing from about 5am. It's a great jumping off point to explore Little River Canyon and DeSoto State Park. Both were new to us and worth visiting.
Erin hasn't gone on any trips yet.
