We set up at a nicely shaded spot with a bit of a water view - camper site 1. Itâs along the drive in but absolutely not an issue. Perfectly peaceful. John set us up with our own private potty/ changing room which was a portable set up and very clean. Plenty of t.p. But bring your own hand wipes/antibacterial sanitizer for your hands. We had a tent set up and also our truck camper- we found very level ground to work with for set up and a nice plush spot for the tent. We really like the wood chip area around the fire pit ( plenty of free wood included ). We found it wasnât as buggy there as in the grassy area. I used some bug spray and that did the trick. Our favorite part of the weekend was hanging out on the end of the pier. It was nice and cool with a little breeze- perfect for early morning coffee and beautiful sunsets. John has chairs and cushions already out there. Absolutely lovely! There was one other campsite set up but far enough away we never heard them ( and they had kids ). Would absolutely return here! Very relaxing weekend!

Marvin is an excellent , attentive host. Our site once again was ready to go with firewood and multiple fire rings- One for cooking, one for sitting and enjoying. Thereâs a table to work at and a picnic table too. Both times we have stayed here weâve arrived late and Marvin always drives out in his tractor to meet and greet us. We had family meet us there on the next night and Marvin was very accommodating, he set up a couple of chairs for our company and there are yard games to play too. The bathroom and shower situation is excellent and always clean too. We love waking up early to the scenic view of the farm and seeing deer. The yard is lit pretty good at night to head to the bathroom but not so much that itâs too bright to sleep or enjoy the campfire. Also the grass is always mowed nicely. Thereâs lots of space at camp to park and enjoy your private area. We always buy firewood and Marvin has it all set at our site for us. Love this farm! So peaceful and thereâs a nice winery 10 minutes away too!

During a dreary rainy muggy weekend the bright spot was Marvin and his hidden gem. It was quiet, solitary and hospitable. He met us on arrival and made it clear he takes pride hosting Hipcampers. He keeps just a few spots on this big property so you truly have privacy and quiet. Shower, toilet, firewood and a big dark sky at night. Weâll be back. Guaranteed.
Past trip
in Welcome to Marigold Manse!, VirginiaWe had a great experience. Elizabeth is a very attentive host. She greeted us upon arrival, showed us around the property and gave us ideas on local attractions. Even though her property is more suited for tents ( with three spots to pick from) we camp out of our Nissan Frontier. No worries, she was very accommodating and allowed us to choose from two locations we could drive up to and camp. Being on the side of the mountain, the property is a bit uneven but we were able to work around that by putting a log under the truck tire. We enjoyed sitting by the fire each night (we were given access to her covered wood pile). The stargazing is amazing there due to low light pollution! Saw tons of shooting stars! We also really enjoyed all the animals around. I recommend bringing bug spray, there were some flying around but after we sprayed around our tent opening and where we sat by the fire, we were good.
The outhouse was nice and clean and well maintained with only the smell of cedar shavings.
Lastly, we had access to a small kitchen-ish room which is temperature controlled. Thereâs a table and chairs to eat at, microwave, coffee pot, mini fridge, even marshmallows for the fire!
Sadly, there werenât any recent rains so no little waterfall or swimming hole to go see as mentioned in other reviews. Also, while thereâs no shower at the property, we were hiking in Shenandoah National Park for the day so you do have access to those showers but keep in mind they are closed from 1-3pm for cleaning, daily.
I would absolutely recommend Marigold Manse!

in Starry Night Meadows, VirginiaEverything we wanted it to be.
Our first HipCamp stay and it exceeded our hopes. We were the only guests on a hotter-than-average two night stay in April and Eva spoiled us! If you're tired of the usual noise and big RVs clogging up campgrounds, this is the escape you're looking for. Not much shade at the site, but the starry skies, wonderful host, shaded brook, three friendly dogs, nearby horse and cow, and all the amenities made our stay. Nearby Charlottesville, Monticello, orchards, countless microbreweries and wineries will tempt us for a return trip soon.
Chris hasn't gone on any trips yet.
Hipcamp Hosts can leave an optional review of their Hipcampers after the trip is completed. This is where those reviews from Hipcamp Hosts will appear.

We loved it. The shaded sites, the amenities (firewood, nearby eagleâs nest, fire pit, potty, potable water, and grassy sites) are everything youâd hope. We added a medicinal plant walk and pottery class - definitely worth it. Other Hipcampers mentioned the cows and goats, but donât worry, thereâs no âdownwind smell,â they just add to the scenery.
