Elmlock was named by MJ's Grandfather for the majestic Elm trees that once graced the property and banks of the Tulpehocken Stream passing through the Union Canal lock. These beautiful trees were devastated by the Dutch Elm Disease in the early 20th century. Elmlock and the surrounding area was surveyed by non other than George Washington as plans were formulating to build a canal system to join the Schuylkill and Susquehanna Rivers. The General stayed with his friend Captain Michael Lei on the adjacent farm, once known as the Tulpehocken Manor when visiting the area. The ruins of one of the canal locks remains on the Elmlock property adjacent to the camping area. The 1838 stone farmhouse was built by the Spengler family and acquired by MJ's Grandfather in 1913. MJ's pottery studio is a local "Town Barn" that was relocated piece by piece to Elmlock by MJ"s brother, a Historic Restoration Specialist, in 1974. He also restored the Bake Oven on the property's Summer Kitchen. Our property features an historic canal lock from 1828 Union Canal and a stream that runs through it. There is a RR track that runs just south of our camp about 10acres away For campers who love to watch or hear trains you'll have plenty of opportunity to do so!  You can enjoy fishing and playing in the water, which is fresh, clean limestone water from a nearby quarry. We also have two small goats on the property. Farm land surrounds the property, wooded area and cattle nearby. This is a secluded property but less than a mile from Rt 422. You can bike along the many back roads nearby!  We also offer pottery classes, drawing classes, painting classes, and also Medicinal wild plants walk etc. for an additional fee.  See our extras below if you are interested! Historic places to visit and only 20 miles from HersheyPark. Also we are only 15-20 min from the Historic Appalachian Trail! And Blue Marsh Recreational park The latrine is spotless clean This year we have apples! Lots and lots of wonderful organic apples to take home and enjoy! Our property features an historic canal lock from 1828 Union Canal and a stream that runs through it.  You can enjoy fishing and playing in the water, which is fresh, clean limestone water from a nearby quarry. Elmlock Acres Camping on the Canal
A slice of Heaven in Pennsylvania!!
It is going to be really difficult to summarize this amazing experience in less than 1500 letters!!! When we arrived to this amazing piece of Historic property... we were greeted by our hosts and a pair of adorable Goats! MJ and Jeff had our site ready with plenty of free firewood, a canopy, a gallon of Drinking Water, Historical Literature and EVEN a Dart Board!!! The view of the Canal was spectacular. There was a pasture behind our site where the Cows came out in the evening to graze. Elmlock has apple trees so we spent quite some time tossing the cows some of them to eat. We were able to park our truck camper right beside the beautiful canal and the mini waterfall. The sounds of the water was so relaxing. On our departure date.... My wife was able to cook our breakfast right next to the waters edge. The MJ and Jeff responded within minutes anytime I sent her a message. By the time we left..... We had realized that we not only had an amazing weekend on one of the most beautiful pieces of historical land we have ever seen, but we also met some new friends in PA. The hosts were not only welcoming, but they treated us like family. WE WILL BE BACK as often as we can! We had our 3 Dogs with us and they absolutely enjoyed themselves as well! With all that said.... The last few miles before arriving to the property was beautiful farmland. So the scenery was abundant! We have every intention on returning hereat every single opportunity. Elmlock Acres Camping on the Canal
Camping on a historic homestead
My friend and I had a great time on M.J.’s property. The campsite is just behind their historical home and fully stocked pottery studio. M.J and her husband were very friendly and walked down to check and make sure we had everything we needed a couple times. They had firewood and a canopy ready and waiting for us when we arrived. There are cute cows and fainting goats around the property. There’s a train that runs frequently, but we sleep heavy and it didn’t bother us. My friend and I took a ceramics lesson from M.J. and it was an amazing experience. She was a very engaged and patient teacher. Overall, they are lovely hosts. I would stay here again for a family camping trip. It is worth noting there is an orchard with a lot of organic fruit the hosts are happy to share, but it seems to draw bees.

Back for another visit!!
Went back for our second time, and it was just as lovely as the first. Great grassy space, dogs love to run off leash. Jeff and MJ and very hospitable, brought us coffee every morning. We had a wonderful time at MJ’s pottery studio, and on her nature walk as well! So much fun creating and learning about natural cures!
