Site 13 - Car Camping
in Mendocino Magic, CaliforniaI have a feeling this site would be great in the summer, but we came President's Day and it was definitely not fully running for the season. We were the only campers there and woke up to frost both nights. The first night it got below freezing. The empty campground was a little spooky, especially since at night the property is covered in deer. It was a little unsettling to see them lurking around our campsite. Anytime I flashed a light I could just see dozens of pairs of eyes from all the deer. Some people may find this really cool, but I did not. The host also wouldn't light a fire in the communal camp area even though it was so cold, and we weren't allowed to light our own. She said it would be too much work. She did light a "fire dish" that provided almost no heat, even though there were dozens of large outdoor heaters around that she could have turned on. Also, when we got there all but one of the porta potties were zip tied, and the only one open seemed like it hadn't been cleaned in months (filled with trash). We asked the host about this and she said to we were supposed to cut the zip ties. The outdoor shower had no hot water. The outdoor sink for washing dishes had a broken faucet and was blocked off by tons of furniture and propane tanks, but we still squeezed back there because it was the only available sink. Another big con was being a windy 90 minute drive from all the sites/hikes in Mendocino. Creek was dry. Potable water came from a garden hose and tasted off.
Past trip
in Waipi'o Lodge, HawaiiGregs place was great. Very beautiful and well designed space. Its definitely an older building, so be prepared for a rustic stay. I was a little shocked at first by the frogs in the bathroom, but totally got used to them. I would stay here again. Great ammenities and a beautiful ocean view, highly recommend!

Quail Nest at Star Route
in Star Route, CaliforniaJeff's place is great! He was very welcoming and we had everything we needed. The shower was a little cold at night but the heater in the tent was perfect. We even got to hold the neighbor's baby goat. Its a long and windy road to get there, but still a great stay.

in OrangeRay~Three Rivers, CaliforniaWendi's place is awesome! She is super accommodating and welcomed us into her home. Her space is super unique and a great place to unwind, with close access to Sequoia National Park. Its like camping but with all the comforts of a bathroom, kitchen, and a warm bed. We can't wait to go back in the summer and get in the creek!
Catalina hasn't gone on any trips yet.
Hipcamp Hosts can leave an optional review of their Hipcampers after the trip is completed. This is where those reviews from Hipcamp Hosts will appear.
