Shady Oak Car Camping (Site 4)
in Yosemite Garden Camp, CaliforniaLovely spot but very difficult road
Shady Oak was a lovely oasis in the Sierra foothills about 45 minutes from the Yosemite Park entrance. We felt we were the only people for miles around. The site has many mature oaks with dry grass and a working vineyard. The bathroom was fully functional and the outdoor shower was greatly appreciated, especially on dry, hot, dusty days. We took showers in the evening and the morning, so the solar panels didn't help much, but the water from the tank wasn't cold, so it was quite refreshing.
The only downside is the road. It's about 4 miles from Hwy 120 to the campsite, on roads that grow worse the farther you go. The last 1.5 miles on a dirt road that barely qualifies as a road. It is steep, deeply rutted and potholed. We have a high-clearance AWD truck and we had to inch along at 3-4 mph. It routinely took 20 minutes to make the 4-mile trip into town.
If you don't mind the bucking bronco drive, we would highly recommend the site. But don't even think about it with a 2WD sedan.
Past trip
in Hidden Forest Get-away, OregonSpacious, private, lots of grass
Rebecca was wonderful!!! We arrived much later than expected and she was very gracious. Her campsite is as described, with no surprises. We particularly enjoyed the spacious, private sites and the outdoor shower.
The trickiest part was finding the right turn off the main road. Perhaps a bigger sign with lights would help those of use who are more directionally challenged : )
Past trip
Site 2 - Magical Camping In a Small Campsite
in Mount Baker Farm & Campground, WashingtonWe had a BLAST staying at the Mount Baker Campground. We lucked out with a vehicle campsite, using our Vanagon and tent for our family of 4 (yes the kids slept in the tent). We arrived late Monday evening with a self check in and detailed description of how to find our campsite. Cheryl cheerfully greeted us the next morning with a warm welcome. She recommended ways to walk into town to avoid the busy streets (via the nature trail), encouraged the train ride (WAY FUN!) and answered our questions about the campground and town.
Alison hasn't gone on any trips yet.
Hipcamp Hosts can leave an optional review of their Hipcampers after the trip is completed. This is where those reviews from Hipcamp Hosts will appear.
