A magical slice of off grid heaven
My husband, Michael, and I were blown away by the craftsmanship of the cabin and the touches of personality that made it feel like a home. Michael is a record collector and was spinning tunes all night on their incredible sound system.
The hospitality and kindness was above and beyond.
We arrived by traing with no car and Jenna was kind enough to offer us a ride! They also offered to pick up and delivery groceries for a small fee since we were on foot.
Jenna and Chris picked us up and we enjoyed getting to know them, their energy is positively infectious. The face masks didnt stop us from connecting over Disney and music immediately.
The cabin and site had everything we needed: Seasonings, pots and cast iron skillets, sponges, campsuds, extra blankets, towels, even a collection of camping cookbooks I stuck my nose into. It is truly off grid, with enough power for lights, the record player and sound system and to charge a phone. I have verizon and had very little service in the area as expected, but a walk to the outhouse would allow me to send and receive texts just fine.
We paid a little extra for the tiki torches and the cooler and it was so worth it. The tiki torches provided an incredible vibe and the cooler was top of the line.
The king bed was sinfully comfortable and we loved the collison of home comfort and wildnerness camping. Cooking outside with a view of endless trees and wildlife, spiders chilling on their webs, chipmunks scampering. Tending the fire for hours to fill up the hot tub was insanely rewarding, especially after a day spent splashing up and down the beautiful waterfalls only 5 minutes away.
On our 2nd day, Jenna checked in on us to see if we needed anything. We only requested some ice, beer, and charcoal (very helpful for the hot tub we found, through the pine cones nearby are great tinder) and Chris came by quickly with all of it PLUS some extra drinking water and a bottle of Chardonnay from their friends winery. We were blown away.
We danced the night away under the stars with the LED cabin lights dancing, enjoyed hiking along the roaring river and getting a yoga flow in on the little back porch.
Truly a magical reprieve in such a tumultuous time. We cannot wait to be back and hopefully share a beer with Jenna and Chris, thank you!! đťâ¤

Echo Valley
in Splitrock Farm and Retreat, CaliforniaCamping among powerful rocks and oa
I deeply enjoyed tent camping on Ben's land. I was confused about the provided directions to the site, thankfully I was able to get ahold of someone promptly. (I have T Mobile and still had great service around the echo valley parking lot.)
Julie was incredibly patient as she directed me to the site and made herself available for any questions and even checked in on me via text to be sure I was settled.
I had a wealth of privacy and plenty of space. Peaceful, serene, full of lizards, hummingbirds and cool breezes in the oak grove.
Kept a fire going late into the night - stunning stars. Abundant firewood all around if you are willing to scavenge, though they also sell bundles. I hiked up to flatop rock early in the morning and was treated to cooling fog that slowly melted away to a stunning view of the surrounding valleys. Running water readily accessible at the site as well as a large white canvas tent and picnic chairs and tables. Outhouse a short walk away!
A note for interested campers: Camp Pendleton is near enough that the sounds of weapons (?) testing can be quite loud, pretty late into the night. Booms and shots. A bit of music or earplugs are a quick fix.
The host was kind enough to let me hang around with my equipment for a little longer after check out while waiting for my ride.
Lovely space, magical experience.
60's Surf Camper in Rockaway Beach!
in 60's Surf Camper, New YorkCozy & convenient
My husband and I had a lovely time staying in Mike's Vintage camper for my birthday weekend! Our host was incredibly accommodating - allowed us to check in AND check out late, set up the camper to be nice and toasty when we arrived, offered to grab us some coal for the grill, recommended awesome food spots (Whits End: AMAZING PIZZA) and stopped by to check in on us.
The space was cozy and perfect for a couple who wants to relax after a long day at the beach.
The bathroom is located on the other side of the houee through a door and down the stairs, we had no issue with it!
We had easy access to basics like cups/plates/utensils/coffee/paper towel/cooler of water. We had plenty of clean blankets and towels in the camper for us to use as well as a coffee maker and toaster oven we could plug in. The outdoor shower was the highlight of the stay for me.
Camper was located across the street from the S train and literally blocks away from the beach each direction, not to mention a 24 hr deli down the street. Super convenient, also something in me really loved the cozy, romance of cuddling up in the camper listening to music as the pinapple lights glowed, hearing the classic ding of the subway cars in the distance and the smell of distant beach cookouts. It was heaven and we will be back again. Thanks Mike!
