This is another one of the smaller backcountry sites in Big Bend Ranch, able to fit around four tents and three high-clearance vehicles. Like other sites, you’re not going to be staying here for the amenities that really only include a picnic table (there isn’t even any water, so bring plenty); you’re staying here for the beauty and sense of truly having escaped it all. There are some great rock formations around the site, and that is because it lies just outside the Solitario Caldera, the ‘signature landscape feature’ of the entire park according to its own seasonal publication ‘El Solitario,’ (ok, there may be some bias in a publication picking its namesake as the ‘signature’ feature, but it is a very cool feature and is a good hike to take from this campsite).
