****Recent Update**** Due to new adjacent properties developments, and new neighbors moving in nearby, there are occasional neighboring barking, music and gunshots that can be heard from the distance, which is pretty common out in the countryside here. *************************************************************************************** There is currently a group of 10 people who spend the majority of our time living and striving to create community on these 85 beautiful acres of land. Our goals are to establish a thriving community, grow most of our own food, build tiny houses to rent or sell, create sustainability and be as self sufficient as possible, salvage material for builds, host events and retreats, teach classes, and more. Please feel free to ask questions and share any interest you may have in what we are doing here. Our property is a densely forested 85 acres with a walk-able 2 miles around the perimeter of the property and many trails and hidden nooks to explore throughout the heart of this beautiful escape back to our natural roots. We are in the process of mapping out the trails- which we plan to make available soon! For now those of you with a sense of adventure and desire to explore will certainly be satisfied. We have a full acre size pond and a kayak that you can feel free to use. There is a communal area around the pond that we will be adding to in the near future- you may run into some of our community members or other campers there from time to time, we invite you to socialize, bring a chair, perhaps a beverage or snack and get to know each other and us as well if we cross paths! You will observe and encounter wildlife in abundance including a variety of birds, wild hogs, opossums, armadillo, moles, spiders, scorpions, butterflies, praying mantis, walking sticks, snakes- keep an eye out for rattlesnakes and copperheads, deer, many insects, and more. Please be cautious and treat these creatures' home with respect for them as well as yourselves. Our property is also home to some lovely cows, chickens, a few dogs, and several cats- they (other than the cows who do what they please) generally remain in areas away from our camp sites though they may still decide to stop by to say hello! We have many spaces available for camping throughout the property. These are primitive campsites on raw land so you will need to provide your own tent, water, food, and operate with a leave no trace mentality when camping here. There are areas that can accommodate large groups of campers as well as very secluded nooks if you are looking for a private retreat into nature. There is plenty of fallen wood available for firewood and a fire pit will be prepared for you before arrival!

This is truly a gem. When we looked into staying a few nights in Austin, even small airbnbs were unaffordable. The sweet little trailer was enough for 2. The bed was extremely comfortable. The yard with the humongous live oak was magnificent.

Weekend Trip to Happy Hideaway - Near COTA

Cute area! We rented the Sunset Cabin for us to stay in while we went to the Sherwood Ren Faire for the weekend. The cabin had all the amenities we needed, but the showers were pretty cold at night (although that might just be the pipes being close to the ground surface). Hotter showers were possible during the day until someone else used the next-door shower or toilet. Some things that couldn't be helped were the loud neighbors. We arrived late at night to hear a car nearby that was burning rubber for at least 10 minutes. Thankfully, the cabin was able to drown out the noise for the most part, but I felt bad for those who were using the lotus tent. Keep in mind that at night it is *dark*, even with all the pathway lighting and string lights. It would be wise to use a flashlight when you're walking outside, as there are cacti throughout the area. It is also a little worrisome that the code to the cabin is simply 1234. I don't believe that any of the other campers would attempt to get inside, but a more complicated code would provide ease of mind. Other than that, we had a great time and would be happy to stay there again!

What a peaceful, cozy, comfortable spot, with the kindest hosts. The cabin was perfectly appointed. I needed a place to rest and recharge and I got exactly that. The outdoor shower was the icing on the cake. Pretty much nothing better than being sheltered by a wise old oak tree as you wash off that road dirt. Highly recommend to anyone who wants to see the more peaceful and humane side of Austin!

Super cute little fishing cabin that was stocked with everything we needed for a small thanksgiving celebration with our adult kids and pets. We enjoyed fishing at the lake just around the corner. Our only drawback was the burn ban that prohibited s'mores over the fire pit each night, but we can only blame the Texas weather for that. We had a great stay and would come back again. 3 nights at Deer Trail Cabin sleeps 6

This place is awesome. The interior is like a luxury cabin with all the amenities and comforts you have at home. Excellent air conditioning, amazing waterfall shower, WiFi, and so many other great features to the cabin make it the best cabin we have ever stayed at. The host Tanya was friendly and had very fast responses to any questions. The location is in an RV park that has charcoal grills, players for the little ones, and great open areas to run with the kids or dogs. It was extremely quiet in regards to neighbors. There are some animal noises from geese and a few dogs but we felt that added to the country feel. A mile or so down the road is one of the best lakes in Texas and since it’s a state park it’s extremely safe and a pristine environment. A few minutes down the road in the opposite direction is a Dollar General for all the items you forgot or want some extra snack or drink. We will absolutely be coming back in the near future.

Check in and out was very easy and simple. The bathhouse and showers were clean and taken care off. The cabin itself was clean and the mattress was so so comfy. After spending all day at ACL, that bed was like laying on a cloud.

Before I could get out of the truck to unlock the door, my husband is yelling from inside the fence, “Babe! I love this place!” And we hadn’t even stepped inside to see all of the thought and effort that was put into the cabin. They have everything you could possibly think of. The only thing not in the cabin is an oven, unless I absolutely missed it. Two loft queen size beds with the master bed being a king size. A shower indoor and outdoor. A desk workspace. Every space so well used up. The hot tub was soooooo nice with the out door games! My husband and I own a CPA Firm and needed the little two night getaway to simply relax! I highly recommend Eder’s Property for any future stays. It is family friendly, but it’s more on the romantic side and nice to walk around naked if you wish because the whole housing is private fenced. I know we will be back for certain! Joe and Misty

The Happy Horse Hotel had everything we could ask for; from the cozy cabin, clean horse pens, nice outhouses, and onsite trails, to the nearby attractions such as the McKinney Roughs Nature Park, the Bastrop Museum, and the various local shops. I love this park! Sadly, a couple of years ago fires destroyed a lot of the beautiful trees in the surrounding area, but that didn’t diminish the lovely sights on the trails. The bathrooms were renovated last summer and are now super glamorous! 👌🏼 Tile, A/C, flushing toilets....it’s a welcomed reprieve from the oppressive summer heat and humidity!

Bastrop Campground

The description should be updated to include the fact that the Memorial Day 2015 flood broke the dam and the lake is no more. It's a pretty depressing sight. I loved camping in Bastrop as a kid. It's such a different experience now with nearly no forest and no lake. Deer Run is the best campground in my opinion. Sites 27-30 have no trees at all and a lovely view of RVs, but 27 and 28 are handicap accessible and RIGHT next to the playground (and bathrooms). If you are camping with young children who need supervision, these are great spots since you can sit at camp while they play. Otherwise, aim for sites 32-34 or 37-42 for trees and a more natural view. But you can hear the highway everywhere.

Smaller park but great campgrounds. The sites are a little close to one another without much privacy in between. If you are looking for a more private setting check out Bastrop's neighbor, Buescher State Park.
