Sugarloafers is located on a portion of the old Ocoee Outdoors Zipline. It is nestled along the lower Ocoee river with great views of Sugarloaf and Big Frog Mountains. This is an excellent gateway to Parksville Lake and the Cherokee National Forest and all the activities it affords including whitewater rafting on the Hiwasee and Ocoee Rivers, mountain biking, kayaking, lazy river tubing/floating, fishing, and so much more!
Our property is one of nine - 5 acre tracts along the river. As of Fall of 2024, the adjacent lots have houses on them. So while this campsite is some distance from the houses, it is currently within view.
Although the campsite is back from the highway, road noise can be an issue especially on the weekends. Highway 64 is one of three major roads in the county. Unfortunatley, tents don't block the sounds of Harleys racing down the road at 2 a.m. Consider bringing earplugs or muffs if you are a light sleeper!
Within a mile from the end of the driveway there is:
Food - Subway Sandwich Shop and the Gondoler restaraunt.
Whitewater Outfitters - Ocoee Outdoors, NOC Ocoee Outpost, ACE Ocoee Adventures
Myrtles Cafe is now two miles east next to the Firefly Market. Please consider visiting these local business, they provide excellent service.
Other - Rock Creek Oufitters Ocoee Store, Ocoee Express Gas Station and Convenience Store, Sugarloaf River Park and Parksville Dam and the entrance to the Cherokee National Forest!
Dollar General & Foodcity - 4.2 miles back towards Cleveland (because someone forgot their phone charging cable and you want a 6 pack of beer).
Middle Ocoee Private boater takeout is only a 10 minute drive east on Hwy 64.
Consider a hike to beautiful Benton Falls - drive to the top of Chilhowee Mountain and it's a 3 mile round trip hike.
!!!ALSO!!! Due to the massive damage caused by hurricane Helene on September 27, 2024 - especially to I-40 through the mountains - Highway 64 is now one of the primary routes into NC from TN. Expect traffic along this route to be busier than normal.

I recently acquired this property that has been in my family for over 100 years and my original home place until around 1980. My wife and I initially made this site for our own RV use, but we want to share it for others to enjoy and also to help finance our constant improvements. The original house that I grew up in is still located on the property but is currently uninhabitable (for now). My fondest memories of the property are of playing and catching crawdads in the creek that located on the property when I was a kid and riding horses and flying kites in the fields. I am working hard to restore this property to the way I remember it and trying to make it enjoyable for those that come to visit. A majority of the property is still being used as a hay field during the summer months and two to three times a year the hay is usually harvested.

We live on the property, and it is a working homestead. We have chickens (roosters too). We ask that you keep your dogs *at your camp site at all times* (we have had camper's dogs run through the field at us and scare us to pieces and we'd rather not experience that again! lol)
Enjoy the sounds of the creek and put your tent on level land. We have firepits at each camp site. Firewood is available for purchase, just send us a message. We can deliver to your campsite. We also have tables and chairs for rent. We have farm fresh eggs! They are unwashed so no refrigeration needed. Need something else? Let us know, we want you to have the best, memorable stay ever!

Sugarloafers is located on a portion of the old Ocoee Outdoors Zipline. It is nestled along the lower Ocoee river with great views of Sugarloaf and Big Frog Mountains. This is an excellent gateway to Parksville Lake and the Cherokee National Forest and all the activities it affords including whitewater rafting on the Hiwasee and Ocoee Rivers, mountain biking, kayaking, lazy river tubing/floating, fishing, and so much more!
Our property is one of nine - 5 acre tracts along the river. As of Fall of 2024, the adjacent lots have houses on them. So while this campsite is some distance from the houses, it is currently within view.
Although the campsite is back from the highway, road noise can be an issue especially on the weekends. Highway 64 is one of three major roads in the county. Unfortunatley, tents don't block the sounds of Harleys racing down the road at 2 a.m. Consider bringing earplugs or muffs if you are a light sleeper!
Within a mile from the end of the driveway there is:

Middle Ocoee Private boater takeout is only a 10 minute drive east on Hwy 64.
Consider a hike to beautiful Benton Falls - drive to the top of Chilhowee Mountain and it's a 3 mile round trip hike.
!!!ALSO!!! Due to the massive damage caused by hurricane Helene on September 27, 2024 - especially to I-40 through the mountains - Highway 64 is now one of the primary routes into NC from TN. Expect traffic along this route to be busier than normal.

My wife and I initially made this site for our own RV use, but we want to share it for others to enjoy and also to help finance our constant improvements. My fondest memories of the property are of playing and catching crawdads in the creek that located on the property when I was a kid and riding horses and flying kites in the fields. Scott was such a fantastic host! He was extremely communicative and thorough with his directions. When we arrived, he helped us get set up in our spot and even gave us a tour of his goat farm. This is a perfect setup for anyone traveling interstate. Not too far from the highway, I even had Uber Eats delivered. Walking the perimeter of the open field you can appreciate the vastness of the space. The stars were brighter in the sky than I’m accustomed to. The birds were huge! Loved my overnight stay and highly recommend.

We love the location, it’s not too far from Chattanooga but just far enough that it’s quiet and peaceful. Our dogs love the open field to go run around in. It’s worth noting that the field is only partially fenced. While the creek does form a natural barrier, it is not fenced along the creek.
The camp spot had everything we needed including some extra black water hoses to help reach the hookup location.

Simply put- the view is incredible. The road up isn’t bad at all. Once at the top, my husband and I were SO happy we found this property to enjoy. The owners were extremely friendly and the place is just gorgeous. Would highly recommend. Would definitely stay again. The cherry on top was it snowed while we were there! And they were quick to keep the property and road safe for driving. 5 stars for sure

My husband, my dog, and I recently spent a three-day weekend camping at Fort Mountain State Park. We rented a gravel campsite and stayed on the creekside of the camping area at Campsite #22.
Our campsite came with running water and electricity, a movable park bench, and a fire pit. We were also very lucky to have gotten one of the only campsites with good sturdy trees that we could use for our Eno hammocks.
The bathrooms were always clean and well tended. Each camping area had designated hosts, which I believe were responsible for cleaning the restrooms.

There are backcountry hike and bike campsites at this state park, just not in the campground! You do need to check in with the ranger station and get permits, and reserve the campsite in advance. If you're hiking the Gahuti, site #4 at Rock Creek is the best site - more secluded from the trail than the others, plus fast running water to filter. Camped there in May, and it was cold due to altitude. There are fantastic mtn biking trails in this park, and one of the mountain's stellar views is wheel chair accessible. We stayed in cottage #1, and it had all the comforts of home.
