It's a very short walk to the neighborhood park- equipped with several types of playground equipment and public creek access, or a five minute drive to a Crestridge Ecological Reserve containing multiple trails. We have three campsites and a cabin on about an acre of land. If you'd like to hang out on the property, we offer a table and chairs with each campsite to lounge in while enjoying the fresh air and nature. There are also a couple of hammocks available. In addition, our SHARED amenities include an outdoor kitchen that includes a sink with hot water, 2 mini fridges,(full at times, extra coolers available) coffee maker, a two burner stove, a griddle, a toaster oven, blender, tea kettle, and a few pans, plates, bowls, cups, and utensils. Also here to SHARE is a Propane fire pit and BBQ area. The bathroom now includes a flush toilet, sink and shower. We are continuously making improvements. Fun Fact: Harbison Canyon was named after John Stewart Harbison - aka the King of the Bee Keepers. He arrived with over one hundred colonies of bees in 1874 and within 7 years he became the world's largest honey producer! Today there are just a few bees in the area.

Weekend Trip to Thompson Palms Campground

Bernie was an attentive, convivial host. The RV sites were level and full hookups with nice foliage privacy inbetween. The farm was interesting and lively with naturally beatiful views and a peaceful quiet place at night. The only regret was we were not able to stay longer and enjoy more great conversation with Bernie.

Please be mindful that we have neighbors on the South side behind that stick, compost fence.

This was a really nice getaway with amazing views! Vicki is awesome and so accommodating. She helps you find a good spot when you get there so if you want the most options, get in as close to check in as possible. It is off grid so make sure you’re prepared with gear cuz no electricity. I don’t know if this is normal, but temps changed drastically for us during the day. Dropped probably 30 degrees at night. We camped mid January and were in shorts in the day but would’ve frozen at night if we didn’t bring our own heaters. Cell service works but is a bit weak. Road up the mountain is narrow, bumpy, and sometimes steep. Just to keep in mind if bringing trailers. But great trip if you want beautiful Mountain View’s!

Wow! Our family fell in love with this magical spot. It was exactly what we needed. The views, the animals, and the amazing stars are now a forever memory. My daughter made besties with the donkey that followed us for a hike. Not to mention the owner Benjamin is great. My son threw a rock and broke a sprinkler and Benjamin was a class act in handling the situation. We will definitely be back.

We stayed one night camping at Split Rock Farm and Retreat and had such a lovely experience. I came with my seven-year-old and felt very safe the entire time, which was important to me. Waking up surrounded by goats was such a special moment my kid absolutely loved it and couldn’t stop smiling. The trails were peaceful and easy to enjoy, and the overall atmosphere felt calm and family-friendly. We’ll definitely be back again.

The Oak Grove Communal Campground is located in a bunch of really full trees that provide lots of shade. The ground is flat enough to set up a tent, and the individual fire pits are great! We chose to have 1 Bell tent set up for us when we arrived, and it was so helpful for that part of our group. There are tons of fun walking trails/boulders to play on, so it was great for families. The camp dogs are super friendly, and we loved having them join us. Things I would note if it is someone’s first time here: 1) If you arrive after 7pm, there is no one onsite or via phone that you can reach for assistance. 2) coming in after dark is not advised by me, due to the fact that the roads on site are windy and hilly. There were parts where I needed 4-wheel drive to get around (though not specifically at the oak grove spot). 3) the goats absolutely roam around and will come directly into your campsite. We didn’t mind it, but if you don’t like that idea, it’s something to keep in mind.

First things first, the drive up is not what people think. The road up is easy even with a 2WD vehicle. My friends Mazda 3 made it up easily so do not worry about making it to the campsite. The view from the site is amazing and the area is very quiet. The host Vicki is an amazing person and is always willing to share info about the property and its history. Overall the spot is great and would definitely recommend this site to friends and family! Also Solo (the dog) comes to your campsite to make sure everything is in order (He goes for snacks and he’s very friendly).

The hosts are amazing and accommodating… and I can’t say enough good things about the location. We plan to make it our annual tradition. Thank you for everything!

The campsites were nicely taken care of, toilets and showers were clean and overall it was a fun experience. It’s also relatively easy to get to. When we went it was windy so we basically had the whole place to ourselves the first night.

Once again Thompson’s Palm Farm proved to be a wonderful place to stay. Secluded, secure, and peaceful. Hosts Bernie and Hoa are kind, interesting to talk with, and generous. This is definitely a favorite place to visit. We’ll be back soon!

We loved car camping in Horizons at Splitrock. We were welcomed to the property by goats and enjoyed seeing the chickens, alpaca, and dogs during our visit. Beautiful views all around! We were able to walk the property and see the other sites as well, you can’t go wrong at Splitrock!

South Carlsbad Campground

Stay on the cliff side if you can away from the highway noise, and be sure to bring cover as there is no shade. Campground books out well in advance, don't bother driving up. Campground is huge, has a camp store in the busy season, fire rings, running water, toilets, coin showers, and beautiful views.

The sunsets are gorgeous!! Bring a jacket for the evening. And try to get a site along the bluff! The views from those are incredible. They have fire pits as well. They also have stairways to walk right down to the sand and ocean. It feels surreal and such a refreshing experience!

Have camped here many times. Very quiet a lot of the year and at night. Not much car noise or train noise compared to San Elijo - Cardiff a few miles south. Spaces are big. They have a few hookups that were added a few years ago. Camp Store is open during warmer months. Grocery and few restaurants are about 1/2 mile away and new Cape Rey resort is now across the street which is actually quite nice. Beach is in need of sand a lot of the year. Popular with surfers. Fairly quiet as there isn't a lot of parking outside the campground so most people on the beach are staying at the campground. Locals go to the southern and northern ends. Great place to camp....clean restrooms and showers. Tough to get spots most of the year

This campsite fills up quickly, so best to get there early in the day or reserve in advance. There isn't a whole lot of privacy and the smell of campfire is pervasive when it's full. (Good or bad? Your call)

There’s no ATM on site and at the moment they do not take cards, so be sure to stock up on cold hard cash before going.

The campground gets booked months in advance during peak summer months, so be sure to reserve a spot fairly early if you want to get into the VIP club that is South Carlsbad State Park.
