The space
The antique Indonesian cottage is made of beautifully hand carved and hand colored teak wood, and is quiet, cozy and romantic with lovely views. It abuts a large private deck and hot tub. Just a few steps across the deck is the very large, luxurious, art filled, centrally heated private bathroom and sitting area. The cottage itself is unheated although there is a premium electric mattress pad with separate controls on the California King bed. That and the hot tub make for cozy sleeping on chilly winter nights

Aside from the private deck, hot tub and bathroom/sitting room (with 6' tub and shower), guests can access 2.5 peaceful acres, woods and fields and Helen Putnam Regional Park one mile down the road for spectacular hiking.
Other things to note
In the 1970's this property was Swallowtail Studios, a famous glass blowers cooperative. The Grateful Dead played in the barn and hung out here...their manager lived just down the road. The barn is redwood, quite large and beautiful, with stained glass windows."

The perfect solo escape!
Treat yourself to a quiet getaway for one at this cozy, clean and comfortable cabin on our rural farm, between two rivers, on Sherman Island. Located in the eastern San Francisco Bay Area at the confluence of the San Joaquin River, Sacramento River, and the eastern terminus of San Francisco Bay, Sherman Island is known for its wildlife, sunrises, and sunsets, and its dark sky for stargazing opportunities.
The property is surrounded by alfalfa fields, grazing cattle, sheep, and a wildland habitat populated with migratory and native birds, animals, and plants.
The one-room cabin has a bed and clawfoot bathtub with hot water offering a peaceful escape on our 5-acre tree-lined farm. Here you can listen to birdsong instead of the sounds of the city. This is an ideal cabin for birdwatchers, writers, plein air painters, nature photographers, stargazing, windsurfers/kiteboarders, meditation, or some stress-free, peaceful reset time.
The private cottage has a refrigerator, microwave, compostable dinnerware, drinking water, and a coffeemaker with coffee. It is air-conditioned in summer and heated in winter.
Pets are welcome and free to enjoy being off-leash in the cabin's fenced yard. The hosts raise free-range chickens and bees on their farm and also conduct a nonprofit rescue and hospice for senior pets.
The property is in the Pacific Migratory Flyway, surrounded by a 1000-acre
State habitat/preserve populated by wildlife and seasonal birds.
Downtown San Francisco and Sacramento are each about 50 miles away in opposite directions. Mount Diablo, viewed from the property, is about 15 miles south and offers hiking trails with stunning views and abundant wildlife.

Situated on top of a ridge with expansive redwood forest and coastal views, the Audrey Edna Cabin provides a completely private gathering place and destination for visitors with reservations. The cabin has spectacular views of forest, sky, ocean and the Butano ridgeline. It's a short hike to 8000+ acres of county parkland where you can hike, bike and ride horses (though please note, there are no facilities for horse boarding at the cabin.) The cabin is located at Alpine Ranch, a property adjacent to Sam McDonald County Park that was protected by Peninsula Open Space Trust (POST).
Whether you are looking for an active experience or just want to relax in a peaceful, remote setting, there's something here for everyone.
This is a rustic hike-in cabin designed for a introductory pack-in experience. Bedding is not provided. It is about a 1.7-mile hike on a rolling dirt road from the Sam McDonald County Park parking lot, with about 650 feet of elevation gain. Most hikers can reach the cabin in an hour or less. Guests should plan to arrive at least 2 hours before sunset, and pack water and flashlights or headlamps. Guests with limited mobility, please contact us for information regarding accommodations that will allow you to access this shared resource.
*A note about reservation availability: On the weekends, POST offers priority reservations for the cabin to our partners at the San Mateo County Health Department and Park Rx to provide patients with equitable access to the benefits of nature. Occasionally, we have last-minute public weekend reservation availability due to cancellations. The cabin is reservable up to 3 months in advance, on a rolling basis.

Property History:
At one time, the ridge of the Santa Cruz Mountains was a thriving center for trade between tribes of the coast and the bay, which we still find evidence of today in cultural sites and artifacts throughout the region. Native people have cared for this land since time immemorial, including the local Muwekma and Ramaytush Ohlone who are still active in the area today. This property specifically is host to a tributary to one of just a handful of waterways that support salmonids in this region, which are a species of tremendous importance to native people.
Over 1000 acres here were eventually purchased by entrepreneur Ridgeway Rowley, who built a home on the ranch in the 1880s as part of an unsuccessful wedding proposal to Fannie Page, daughter of a local mill owner (ever heard of Page Mill Road?) After being rejected by Fannie, Rowley operated the ranch for a decade in conjunction with his work as District Attorney and publisher of the Palo Alto Weekly, before eventually returning to his hometown of Cortland, NY, where he lived as a bachelor until his death. Over the course of the 20th century, the ranch was divided, some parts of which became Pescadero Creek County Park. POST purchased the 350 acre home property, now called Alpine Ranch, in 2012 through our Heart of the Redwoods campaign, an initiative to protect 20,000 acres of Redwoods in the Santa Cruz Mountains. Alpine Ranch borders Pescadero Creek County Park and Sam McDonald County Park, adding to the area’s protected open space and containing more than a mile of tributaries to Pescadero Creek, which flows year-round and is a major spawning stream for steelhead trout.
The Audrey Edna Cabin at Alpine Ranch is situated at one of the property's most scenic overlooks. The cabin was built in the early 1900's, and completely reconstructed up to modern building codes by POST in 2018 so that all could enjoy this special place.

Welcome to our family land! We are a low-key, rustic, proudly affordable option in Calistoga, with amazing views and open space to explore, just 10 minutes outside of the charming town of Calistoga. Our camp is open May to October, and when you book a site, you get access to the whole property so you have options of which site to set up in. Book Manzanitas but show up and like Shaded Oak better? No problem, just stay there. Decide you want one of the glamping cabins? Just pay the extra, and the door combo will be revealed.
The hilltop is for day-use, showering, etc. and readily accessible for Coral Cabin guests right next door. It also shares space with our main house tenants so it is the least private, but has the best views. The family is quiet but you will hear cars come and go from the hilltop.
Last, we expect all guests to leave the sites cleaned up and “better” than you found it, with the exception of Coral Cabin which has a cleaning service and $30 fee. If this sounds good, read on for some general information about the property and see Sites for information about each site option:
The nature and beauty comes with your fair share of roughing it, as even the Coral Cabin is not an Air BnB since it has outdoor toilet, shower, etc. All sites have their own compost toilet and handwashing station, with flowing water at the hilltop Cafe, which has a hot shower, grill, sink, power outlets and Wi-Fi, coffee maker, microwave and toaster, and bathtubs for an extra charge.
*Coral Cabin also has the largest, flattest spot for an RV, with great views and cabin access if you wanted. This cabin is our premier ‘roughing it’ experience complete with electricity, WI-FI, TV with Roku, and an AC unit.
All sites: Pack your trash to deposit in the Hipcamp trash bin at the bottom of hill. Add mulch to the toilets! Wipe your surfaces. Leave it better!

The space
An actual hidden cottage tucked into a space full of vegetable and flower gardens. A six-chicken coop also runs the length of one side of the yard. There's also a private patio area to relax and unwind. The cottage is cute and simple, with an attic-like staircase leading to the upstairs bedroom. Enjoy your privacy in this unique and quaint space.
P.S. This space may not be the best suited for elderly, disabled, or very young guests.
Guest access
The entire cottage is all yours, with a private entryway. We have an open patio area just outside the cottage with outdoor seating and tables. There is also a charcoal barbecue available upon request, as the hosts may be using it. It is a great spot to sit and unwind while watching and listening to the chickens, watching the sun set, and gazing. The garden area is shared with the hosts.
Other things to note
You, as our guest, always have privacy in the indoors of your space. The outside areas are mostly shared between my family, pets, and our guests, but the outdoor patio is all yours(we only access this when guests are present if we need to do some yard work). Enjoy yourselves, and be wary of doggies when pulling in the driveway!
It is an in-laws quarters type house and shares one wall with the main house of the property. The door that connects the homes is completely sealed off and inaccessible to both parties.
Please keep in mind that this is not a space suitable for very young, disabled, or elderly guests, due to the attic-like staircase mentioned above.

I had a great time in the little cottage on Sherman Island. For being so close to the bay, it feels like you are in a different world. The cottage was cute and I could tell there had been a lot of attention paid to details. The bathtub was fabulous and after long walks out looking at birds, this was just the place I wanted to be.

I had such a beautiful, restful stay at Ceci and Steve’s cabin on Sherman Island. I came for a solo writing retreat and left feeling deeply reset. The cabin is cozy, clean, and thoughtfully set up, and the clawfoot bathtub was an absolute dream after long, quiet days of resting and writing.
The land itself is really special. Waking up to birdsong, spending time birdwatching during the day, and then stepping outside at night to see a sky full of stars felt like a gift. Even with the winter wind rolling through, there was something grounding and powerful about being out there between the rivers, surrounded by open land and wildlife.
Ceci and Steve are wonderful hosts, and you can feel the care they put into the space and the animals around them. This is a perfect place if you’re looking for solitude, nature, and a true pause from city life. I’m so grateful for the time I spent here and would absolutely return.

Such an incredibly beautiful and cozy spot!
Even on the rain, we had a wonderful time. We brought rain gear and went out geocaching in Pescadero County park each day which the kids in our group loved. The cabin is so well stocked with kitchen gear, games, and a guitar! Loved drinking tea on the deck, making soup, and enjoying the rain, fog, and lush green of the forest. This was our second year there for new Years! We hope to come back again some time this year.

Steve and Ceci are such lovely and down to earth people! Staying at their place was really enchanting, the cabin feels like something out of Snow White-it’s simple but also very detailed and you can tell thought was put in the space. The clawfoot bathtub was wonderful, and despite the winter chill the place managed to stay warm. There’s a bookshelf full of books with California flora and fauna. Their dogs are funny and very active, and there’s maybe about. 60 chickens there? Both domestic and wild. Both the area in the back next to the cows and the highway besides the river were lovely to walk beside and explore.
Overall it was a wonderful way to get away from the hustle and hustle of things and relax and explore! Hope to be back soon 💕

A glamper’s dream! This tiny cottage had all the amenities of a full house—cooking, bathroom, TV, WiFi, and heaters. After a full day of exploring nearby Point Reyes, my friend and I were able to sleep in maximum comfort.
Note, this cottage is in a residential area, so you will have drive to any outdoor adventures, but the cottage still has lovely outdoor seating that overlooks the flower garden.

Weekend Trip to Delta Respite
I had a wonderful stay here. The silence, stars, multitude of birds (including Sandhill Cranes!), water, and joyful farm animals were restorative for my soul. The rustic and charming cabin was delightful with a window view of splendid sunsets, cool art and stylistic decor, an efficient heater, and a spacious bathtub. The hosts were gracious, responsive, welcoming, and thoughtful; they went above and beyond in making sure my stay went well.

Bill’s land was one of the best hip camps I have ever stayed at! The Indonesian bedroom was so serene and I slept like a baby with the heated bed. The bathroom was so beautifully decorated with ornate paintings, little treasures, and the stained glass window was intricately stunning. The hot tub was a bonus and it was extremely close to the town of Petaluma and hiking trails. You definitely should stay here for a romantic getaway!

Beautiful views from the porch of this lovely cabin. There was a group of 7 of us and we loved the cabin. It was easy to find with the directions, the kitchen had everything we needed, and it was very clean and nicely maintained.

Absolutely WONDERFUL STAY! The location is a four minute drive to castle rock state park, the house is stocked with everything you may need including a full bar, seltzers and sodas, FRESH EGGS, and snacks (just bring your favorite creamer and bread for the perfect breakfast each morning)!
Our favorite part of the trip was the tub outside overlooking the lake that can be swam in along with their friendly fur animals that you can feed!
Highly recommend and hope to be back!

I stayed at East Bay Site #3, which was amazing. The Tiburon ferry made it really easy to get to the island. The pit toilet for Sites 1-3 is sort of gross. It is worth walking to the toilet at sites 7-9 to use the facilities. The view was awe inspiring.

I bikepacked out to East Bay Environmental Site #3 on a Sunday evening back in April. The Island and campgrounds were very quiet, with it being a Sunday in the early spring season. It felt like we had the whole island to ourselves!
Pro tip: Hike up to the top of Mt. Livermore for sunset for the view and memory of a lifetime

Whoa what a pleasant camping surprise! I had been meaning to check out Angel Island for a while but kept putting it off because how good could the camping really be this close to the city, right? Wrong! It was spectacular. The views of the city and the bridges were mesmerizing and although the busy city was within eyesight the actual surroundings on Angel Island felt like we had escaped to the mountains far away.
You'll need to catch the ferry, and be aware that during the winter months there isn't regular ferry service during the week. Call the ferry to piggy back with groups already going.
Sites 4 and 5 have the best views. Site 4 is completely unobstructed but also very exposed. Site 5 has tree cover. There's also water at the sites.

Be ready to carry everything in, and the first half-mile from the ferry drop off is straight uphill! And the campsites on the other side of the island are windy as heck. But oh, what a view!

Managed to get a Sunday reservation on one the Ridge sites. We were surprised to have the whole ridge to ourselves, since the other sites had been booked as well! Our site fit three tents just fine though, with room to spare. It was a nice walk to the beach right below the ridge, though the "trail" was hard to find; we just followed the concrete gutter and eventually found stairs to the beach itself. Lots of poison oak! We had the beach to ourselves (picked up a good amount of trash), then enjoyed nighttime views of the city and explored the batteries (fun/scary in the dark). The next morning we took the first ferry and went straight to work haha

I just got back from camping for two nights at Angel Island with my friends and it was amazing! I was lucky enough to book campsite #4, which offers the best views of the San Francisco skyline. Be warned that there is no shade at campsite #4 so be prepared to lather on the sunscreen. Other campsites offer shade like #5 and #6. Temperatures can change dramatically and can get pretty cold at night so bring lots of layers. It takes about 20 minutes to hike in with paved and unpaved roads, some uphill trails and stairs. We enjoyed hiking Sunset Trail as part of it was shaded and we saw a friendly deer along our way. The hike to Mt. Livermore was gorgeous and well worth the climb!

This was my first experience camping on angel island and I can assure you it is one like no other. We stayed in EB Campsite 3, while the grill was slightly tilted causing for some grilling problems, the rest of the experience was incredible. Each day waking up to a stunning view of the city and the east bay was like magic. The second day we spent the whole time walking around the entire island and visited Perles beach which was also amazing though tricky to find the entrance to. Every step you take on this magical island is surrounded by jaw-dropping views of the city and the Bay Area. Each night we trekked up to the top of mt.Livermore where we saw beautiful sunsets and again stunning views. 100/10 recommend, best camping experience

One of my favorite camping experiences of all time. We took the last ferry over to the island, but I wish we had come earlier in the day to have more time to explore. A very easy mile walk from the boat dock to the site along a paved road. After setting up camp with gorgeous views of both bridges, we hiked to the island's highest point and had wine for sunset. We watched the fog roll inz, which was beautiful even though it took away our clear 360 views. Only negative is that the racoons are very audacious, so be ready with sticks and rocks to keep them away.
Campsite 5 and 7 are the best with broad ocean views. Bring warm clothes because it gets cold.

We reserved a weekend spot many months in advance and camped at Ridge Site #6 for two nights. It was magical!
Things to keep in mind: 1) Don't miss the ferry! There aren't many options so get there in plenty of time. 2) Bring layers! Our site was sheltered from the wind by the grove of trees and the old military bunker, but things cool off when the fog settles in! CAMPFIRES ARE NOT ALLOWED, so plan accordingly. 3) The raccoons are pesky and bold up there, so keep an eye on your food at all times.
The views are spectacular and there's something special about being one of the lucky ones left on the island when the last ferry leaves for the night. We'll be back!

East bay sites are the most private. The rest you'll have random hikers coming up or walking around throughout the day. Site 1 is the most private at the end, Site 2 is the most shaded. Site 3 has great views but not a lot of flat land for tents.

Stayed in Sunrise camp friday of memorial day weekend. was the only thing available 4 months out... and no one else was there- all to ourselves, practically the whole island ! it was windy, bear lockers, vault toilet,TRASHCANS!

Sites 7-8-9, the "Sunrise" sites, are windy as hell. The views are good of the east bay. I didn't get an actual sunrise as we were fogged in. Bring a bike for the upper fire trail, it's great.

The water here is safe to drink, but pretty grim-tasting. You won't want to carry the extra weight so pack some powdered flavoring like Gatorade or Emergen-C.

Campsite 4 has the best views of the Bay Bridge, San Francisco, and Golden Gate bridge. You see the whole view, nothing is blocking. It's also the highest of 4,5, and 6 campsite.

After living in SF for over 4 years, I finally made it to Angel Island... on a Wednesday! Booking a site on the weekend can be close to impossible. I honestly don't know if I'll ever get a weekend spot, but I'm determined to keep my eye on sites as they open, up to 6 months in advance.
Since I was the only person camping on Wednesday, I explored every corner and nook of Angel Island. There literally is not a spot on the island that doesn't have an awesome view. Ridge sites 4,5 are killer, ridge site 6 is tucked away just a bit, but is only steps from that sweet view of the Bay Area. I'd love to come back and stay at any of the East Bay spots (scoped out a great spot for a hammock at EB site 3) and experience the sunrise from the other side of the island.
Upon hiking to the top of Mt. Livermore, I was surprised to find multiple picnicking platforms. These aren't marked on the trail map. If you hike to the top, bring a game or some grub and plan on chilling up there, the views are AMAZE.
I can't believe it took me so long to camp here! Though, due to booked weekends 6 months out, it makes sense. If you live in the area, take a lil' baycation, and visit during the week. Plus, when you have the island all to yourself you can do whatever the heck you want. ;) Sooo worth it!
