I tried to give the benefit of the doubt, but.....The pictures on the app were a very misleading, like others said. Many pictures of the tipi and a cozy barn, but none of the tent site, which is just a flat spot in the trees, close to the road. There is direct line-of-site to the house and many outbuildings, so one might feel like they're being watched. The tent site is full of lava rocks in the ground so you either set your tent up without cover of trees (in the driveway) or on large rocks. When clearing out the deer scat in the grass, I also swept away lots of pieces of glass. Apparently, I didn't clear it well enough because the bottom of my tent is now cut up (thanks a lot, now I need to buy a new tent). Lots of glass in the driveway, also. I would think if someone is charging money for people to stay, at least clean the place up a bit. The tent site is also very close to the heavily-trafficked road, with traffic noise and headlights keeping us awake well into the morning hours. The steps to the outhouse are just a jumbled mess of lava rocks, so if you have poor balance or poor lighting, do not attempt. They claim ash to cover your business, but no ash was available, only dead lizards and trash in the bucket. Again, no preparation by the host. Would not rent here again. I'm a pretty reasonable guy and $40 isn't much for a place to sleep, but next time I'll sleep on the side of the road. This tent site was unacceptable.

Our experience was okay and Rene was responsive but the photos are a bit deceiving. The campsite is very close to the main house as well as to another campsite. I chose this Hipcamp for a more private stay and it didn’t feel that way at all. There are also foxtails everywhere so be careful with pets!

There are no picnic tables in the tent are. The outhouse is ok, but I would have preferred a less stinky option for #1. Land is beautiful and smells amazing of pine trees. There was some music playing at 1am which disturbed my sleep. I tried to find out where it was coming from, not sure. Asked the host over message, the host never replied.

Fairy light & soft sheer perfection
I only stayed for one night but it was adorable!
Even though I came after dark, thanks to the instructions I was sent, I was able to find my way no problem.
The fairy lights gave it the perfect ambiance. While I was there it was in the high 30’s so keep that in mind if the cold bothers you. (Rene had offered a heater but I was ok without!)
The one thing I would keep in mind is you can hear cars pretty frequently and if you’re not used to it like I wasn’t, it might catch you off guard.
And last but certainly not least, holy moley those were the most comfortable sheets ever!!
So soft and cozy….never wanted to leave!
I’ve already told several people about this perfect tepee!

Great, private place.
This is a great, very private place. The host has a full bathroom in the house, very close to the tent site. We enjoyed our stay!

Wonderful stay! The tipi is super adorable and comfortable. We were lucky and had a gorgeous starry night- got to see some cool quail, deer, and bats. Hosts were respectful of privacy. We liked it so much we booked an extra night. Highly recommend this space to others, it’s a very nice getaway!

Centrally located front yard spot
If you just need a spot to stop as a jump off point to see the nearby sites this is a very centrally located spot.
If you want to relax and enjoy nature this is not the spot. You are a stones throw from the house on one side and the road on the other. By road I mean a highway. So traffic all hours of the night including semi-trailers. The other views is of the neighbors house through some trees and other campsites along with some random out buildings.
From the reviews I read prior to booking they recieved some personal hospitality. We did not. No one answered knocks on the door. We did not find the door to the bathroom inside the house until light the next day. When the house occupants left the next morning the women in the prius drove right by. We decided to be more proactive when someone came out and jumped in the 4runner our attemps to flag them down where not acknowledged as they drove away.
We did not stay for the second night as we just felt like we were squatting in someones yard that didnt even want us there.
Bonus wildlife - a snake wandered throught our camp at dusk. It was completely chill but if you do not care for snakes this might not be the spot for you.

Campsite was nice and felt private. The host, Rene, was very responsive to messages. It is not far from Steelhead Falls or Smith Rock. The site had WiFi and access to a bathroom. The only downside is that although the location feels remote, the road nearby is actually quite busy, and you can hear the traffic.

Great spot. Fairly basic spot to camp with a clean bathroom. Easy access to Smith Rock and the surrounding area. Friendly host and they were making additional upgrades while we were there.

We had a lovely stay. It was nice to have the shower/toilet and fresh water available to re-fill up our jugs. It was a little hard to see from the road and we were still able to see the road traffic from our place. So if you want to be more remote may not be the place for you.

Pretty nice place. The land is spacious, beautiful, dry desert with a number of trees that provide modest shade. The ground is sandy, with patches of dry grass. The burrs from the grass were occasionally pokey. The owner was very friendly and accommodating. The bathroom was clean, and had a shower and toilet. At night, I could hear cars driving by until around midnight, when the frequency diminished. I could also hear neighbor dogs barking and howling with coyotes.
I went out during the day, and visited Maupin (1.5 hours north) for river rafting, and Smith Rock (about 30 minutes away).
Overall, I enjoyed my stay there.

Rene’s place is a perfect place to stay if your in the area exploring Bend! She had great communication and made sure we had everything we needed. The bathroom and shower was a huge plus especially when your camping.

Very generous host! I was traveling down from Seattle for a last minute adventure to climb Smith Rock in the morning and didn’t arrive until midnight. Being that the Bivy Campground was closed, I was so thankful for Rene’s quick response and reservation confirmation. She gave great directions and had a light post signaling where to park so there wouldn’t be any confusion, even in the dark. She was also sweet enough to pitch her own tent for me so I could rest immediately on arrival and offered coffee in the morning💗
This sight has many things to offer aside from its close proximity to Smith Rock. There were many places available for camping on the property, frogs to lul you asleep, and neighboring cows to wish you a good morning.
