The Huber family began its legacy of farming and ranching in 1868 when Samuel Isaak Huber, an immigrant from Switzerland, settled in Cat Spring, Texas. His son, Henry, and grandson, Lawrence, followed in his footsteps. Lawrence, a pretty good horseman and roper, used his winnings to acquire more land during the depression. He and his wife, Edna Schaffner Huber, willed the land to their twin daughters, Mary and Faye. Mary and her husband, Eddie, settled on the home place in 1970. Since that time, they have continued to build a strong and vibrant beef cattle operation. Eddie and Mary cultivated beautiful fields of Coastal and Tifton. Hay from these fields provides quality nutrition to our cattle during the winter months. Mary and Eddie's daughter, Connie and her family, Aaron and Skye, moved to the home place in 2013 and soon after created Watermelon Hill as a way of honoring the animals they raise and sharing the Huber family's natural way of life. The ranch consists of open fields of hay and grazing pastures intermixed with hardwood and softwood forest. Hilly landscapes are broken with wet weather creeks and fishing ponds located around the ranch. The town of Bellville is 7 miles, Columbus is 14 miles and Brenham is a short 25 miles away. There are multiple places to dine or enjoy a local brew close as well. Don't forget that Antique Week over in Warrenton is just 25 miles away. However, none of that matters if all you want to do is be quite and enjoy some serenity. The closest highway is two miles away so if quiet is all you want we have that in abundance. Camp sites are primitive with no water or electricity.Tent or RV boondocking camp next to one of our main cattle ponds. Abundant wildlife and bird watching is a big plus for this location. Primitive road to the site yet is only 300 yards from Ranch Headquarters. Abundant trees and terrain provide total privacy. While there is no water or electrical hook up, a picnic table is there, just waiting for you to down with family and friends. Enjoy a good book or watch the sunset with a fantastic view of the Milky Way after dark. Fire pit may or may not be available depending upon the time of year and Fire Danger conditions. Bundles of firewood are available at $5.00/bundle. You are permitted to fish in Eddy's Pond, but we ask that you don't take more than you can eat. We are a Grass Fed and Grass Finished beef ranch and can add on steaks (as available) or eggs and beef sausages for your cooking and epicurean enjoyment. Grass Fed/ Finished Beef Pattiesgood

Grass Fed Grass Finished ground beef patties with 3 patties per package. Each package is about 1 lbs and the individual patties are about 1/3 pounds each frozen. This is our beef raised on the ranch and we will deliver it frozen to the campsite when you’re ready to cook them.

Half dozen eggsgood

$4.00

Half a doz. eggs which come from our flock of free range hens. Eggs will be multi colored as we have several breeds of chicken. We do feed, but use a No Soy blend of scratch. Ordering eggs ahead of time is strongly encouraged as we sell eggs at local farmers markets as well.

Firewood bundlegood

Start your trip off right with a bundle of firewood waiting for you at your camp for your first campfire. Roughly 5-7 sticks of wood per bundle.
