I loved coming to Walnut Hollow and feeling as safe as a kid again. At this time of year, home is buzzing with flash flood warnings and severe thunderstorm alerts. I thought I wouldn't make it so I kept putting the trip off, yet Candice respected my concerns and messaged me responsively and with assurance. But when I got here, the whole atmosphere was different, like driving into a blanket of sunshine and blue mountains.
The farmstead is really fun. There's walnuts all over the floor and the grass is clean and soft. By the creekside, a red kiddie car is available if you're camping with kids. I almost tried it but I couldn't fit. I brought my dog and she got a chance to see cows for the most educational encounter of her life, she kept sniffing and posing to ask how to speak cow body language. They told her: to say hi, cows butt heads.
Next was the kitchen, which had the really nice sink that you see at restaurants with the sprayer head and dual pipe mode faucet/gasket(?). There's always a harvest on the table, and the veggies are plumper and fresher than the ones even at Whole Foods sometimes. They're bigger than my palm and have colors that stand out on cloudy days. If I arrived one day earlier, I could have bought them off the stand. There's also a baby chicken coop by the door that you can ask to play with. It's really new and fresh.
I came with Ellie to find my ex-dog Kathleen, but if every farm from home to Pittsburgh is like this, maybe "lost" isn't so bad after all.
