Camp Tuck
Camp Tuck is awesome. We have visited twice this year and both times were amazing! The first visit we saw bald eagles and 2 huge elk! The second we saw an otter. John is easy to deal with. Will definitely be back.

The spot is just as pictured, beautiful. I found the camptuck.com website to also be very informative of the site and the area. Be sure to look at their notes regarding the driveway, especially regarding tow behinds as it is very helpful and will keep you from getting into a tough spot. experience was 10/10 for what I was needing.

Camp Tuck
Very nice spot for a weekend away. Very private, and surprisingly quiet, considering the road is so close. Convenient to a few nice towns, restaurants and breweries. We will be back.

Wow! We loved our stay at Camp Tuck. The site was perfectly serene! When we arrived a bald eagle was perched across the river and stayed there for an hour. We will be back!

Camp Tuck
Camp Tuck was great! A surprisingly private space. It was down a long drive off of a county highway with little traffic. Even when a car went by you couldn;t hear it over the soothing sound of the river. A very scenic site that is just 10 minutes from Cherokee. I will be back!

This camp spot is awesome. You sleep on the river a few minutes from town and it’s very private. We got to see 2 elk come down to the river for a swim and 2 bald eagles. Highly recommend John’s awesome place.

We really enjoyed the property, and the host was amazing. We caught some wild trout just a few feet from where we were sleeping, and plan to come back sometime.

I loved it. When you drive in, be prepared the driveway is very steep and it feels like you’re driving off into the river. Sharp turn at bottom to get to perfectly level site with Full hook ups. The river is gorgeous and the sound never stops which is wonderful to go to sleep too and wake up too. There is a burn ban in the state of NC right now due to wildfires, so I did not have a campfire. The walk down to the river is steep but there are steps with a handrail, that needs a little tightening and straightening up but it holds you. There is a bench halfway down to the river, to sit and enjoy the river. There was a Canadian goose that yelled at me a lot. Lol, I think his mate was on a nest across the river. This site is great for trout fisherman. I especially loved the privacy. No one on either side of you or across the river. There is nowhere on site to put your trash, so be prepared to take it with you or drive it from site. He tells you that in his directions for the site. The community around Whittier is absolutely wonderful. I had a flat tire and randomly had a person come over that checks on the site for John and he left and came back with two young folks with him and changed my tire and brought me ice. I didn’t ask him to do this. Very thoughtful. Great breweries nearby, Angry Elk in Whittier and Lazy Hiker in Sylvia. Great hiking all around. GSMNP, 20 mins away. Great communication from John throughout. I definitely recommend this Hipcamp!

Camp Tuck is by far the best HipCamp we have stayed at! Beautiful and words or pictures don’t do it justice. We stayed 16 nights a few years ago, and 10 nights just now. AAA+++ and we live 7 hours away! We will be back!!!

Great place and easy to find was very quiet even being close to the road. Only complaint is water completely unusable very low pressure and dirty so bring your own potable water. Would definitely use again.

Absolutely perfect spot! Great area to set up camp and amazing access to the water. The water levels do fluctuate but you have pretty much all day to enjoy the lower levels. Also very close to Bryson city if you want to go to town to explore.

absolutely amazing. minus the “fun” downhill nose dive into the site, this was the coolest hipcamp my RV has ever been to. great privacy, beautiful river, and very well maintained site. would recommend to others and would LOVE to come back for another stay!

Camp Tuck was a spectacular spot right on the river and completely private. The location is very centralized to many surrounding areas full of hiking, waterfalls and rafting. Highly recommend staying there.

Camp Tuck is a beautiful site and we enjoyed our stay. It was easy to find and we had no trouble getting in and turned around with our rig. The view and sound of the river was beautiful and relaxing. We enjoyed watching the pair of bald eagles that frequently visited, and seeing blue ghost fireflies for the first time. We liked the convenience of the water, sewer & electricity hook ups too. It was very hot when we were there but it was much cooler to sit by the river. The walk down to the river was not bad at all. We wished there was more level areas to hang out by the river as it wasn't very comfortable to sit on the rocks for very long. We also wished that there was an easier way to get into the river to cool off, but the rocks were slippery and the current was strong, so we just sat on the rocks and enjoyed putting our feet in the water. Overall, it was a lovely site and we'd definitely return. But if you're hoping for easy river access, have young kids or want to play in the water, this probably isn't the ideal river site for some. It was certainly beautiful, nonetheless!

Such a great setting, we loved this spot. The spacious site was easy to reach for our 21 ft van. Great to have the full hookups too. The incredible river view and sound of the ripples was so relaxing. Also loved how private and peaceful it was, can’t wait to revisit! Host was very communicative also.

Camp Tuck was the perfect spot for our weekend of fly fishing. The campsite was clean and well-maintained. We enjoyed being able to access the Tuck directly from the campsite and the feeling of remoteness, even though we were just a mile from the highway. Will definitely consider staying again when back in the area.

The sounds of the river were extremely peaceful. Two fire rings with one at the river and one up on flat land. I’d recommend bringing wood from near by stores. Be weary of the driveway down into your spot, at night it seems like you’re nose diving into nothing, just trust that the road is there and go for it.

We had a nice stay on John’s land. Even though it was right off the road, we had privacy and very little road noise. The view was amazing and so peaceful. We saw a bald eagle twice which was an awesome experience. It was a great spot and I’d definitely recommend it. We would love to visit again!

We absolutely loved our stay at Camp Tuck! The host’s directions were spot on but we still managed to miss the turn into the driveway. I’m glad we did, because it appears very daunting coming from that direction. Due to our mistake we had come back the opposite way, passing the property on the right, then do it all again-BUT coming from the wrong direction we could see there was in fact a driveway, haha. We have a 28ft Class A, we took it slow and had no issues getting in or out.
The camp site is not far off the road but because it sits so much lower, you don’t see or hear much traffic. The driveway is paved and the site itself is well packed gravel. Having full hook ups was fantastic and there’s also a picnic table and large fire pit. The path down to the river is steep but well kept. Part way down there’s a small landing area with a bench and near the water, another fire ring and large rocks where you can sit close to the river.
Midday the water is low and slow moving. We were able to comfortably wade in some spots and let the dogs splash around. In the evenings the river rises and the current is much stronger. We enjoyed the peacefulness so much we didn’t leave but there’s plenty to do close by, although it feels like you’re very secluded. We saw one group of people on paddle boards but that was it.
The sound of the river is incredible and at night, the sky is super clear. We had some beautiful sunsets as well. We’re glad we found this spot and hope to visit again!

Great spot on the river. Very well kept, with all hook ups. Seemed steep getting in/out at first but our class b van made it with no problem. We will be back!
