Booked last-minute and arrived around 9:30 PM. Chris, the host, kindly warned us about mosquitoes, but we didn’t mind as we just needed a place to sleep before heading to Pictured Rocks the next morning.
The site was level, surrounded by trees for privacy, and easy to access via a decent 2-track. Signage was great. Restroom and shower was spotless.
Chris checked in the next morning, ensuring we were comfortable, and we even spotted a deer outside our van. A peaceful, well-kept spot with a friendly host - we will definitely return!

We stayed at site 1 and loved camping here. It was well maintained with a very clean restroom and hot shower. The campsite was very spacious and quiet and we enjoyed gazing at all of the stars. Chris was a wonderful and gracious host who gave great recommendations and conversation. Highly recommend for anyone visiting the pictured rocks lakeshore area!

Camping at High Swamp camp was an awesome experience! Chris is super friendly and makes sure his guests are having a good time. The outhouse was super nice and clean and our campsite was perfect!

We loved our time at Site 2! It was spacious and the property at High Swamp Camp is just beautiful. The view of the stars at night is incredible. The outhouse and outdoor shower were very clean. Chris was super helpful with great suggestions about places in the area to explore. We would love to come back to this campground!

My partner and I camped at site number 7, and had an amazing experience! It was our first time in the area, and it was so nice to have someone to ask questions to. Hambone was extremely helpful and gave us recommendations of things to do, and how to get there. The site itself was a great size for us, the clearing was super even which was great for tent camping, and we loved having a picnic table and fire pit right at the site. The outhouse was super clean, and the shower was just the cherry on top. Thanks for hosting us, Hambone!

Best campsite I’ve stayed at! Very spacious & spread out from the other sites. Easy access. Very close to so many different things to do. Chris is so friendly & accommodating. Gave some amazing suggestions & used to have one badass car! Will definitely be going back many more times! :) highly recommend this campground.

We had a great time camping here. The camp sites are all pretty big and the outhouse and shower were both very clean. Chris was very helpful and there is a lot to do relatively close by to the campsite

Tent camping at this site was so nice! Very quiet and secluded but felt super safe. We met Chris the morning we left and he gave us some great tips on places to see and eat! Bathrooms were super clean and updated. Definitely will have to come back!

Chris is a very welcoming host. Site 2 is ideal for group camping. No problem for big rigs, too. And the “outhouse” with outdoor shower was an extra special touch - clean, well-maintained and pleasant to use. We will come back.

Great site! Chris makes a great cup of coffee and is always willing to share his stories and tips. Site one was wonderful and close to a very clean outhouse with an amazing outdoor shower! Would definitely stay here again!

Host was incredibly kind and let us hang out in his cabin to use the wifi to plan the next leg of our trip. Lots of recommendations and suggestions for things to do and decided to see Tahquamenon Falls which I highly recommend. Sites were well maintained, outdoor shower was amazing and close to a lot of things to do. Would recommend staying here any time!

The upper peninsula of Michigan is a remote area, which is exactly why we chose this spot. We used Starlink for internet, which was obstructed here but wasn’t nonexistent. Cell service for both Verizon and AT&T was nonexistent, which is completely understandable given the location. I wouldn’t think you’d be at a place like this to use technology, but if so, download shows/movies beforehand.
The host, Chris, couldn’t be more welcoming, understanding, flexible and knowledgeable about this area. While here we drove through the National Lakeshore area and saw all kinds of cool stuff. The route from Marquette to Grand Marquis is a must do. Jumping off the black rocks near Pictured Rocks is also a must do. They have kayak tours that show really cool stuff, but are very - in our opinion - expensive. Go to the beach in Grand Marquis to try and find “up’er rocks”! We didn’t have the right UV light so we struck out so buy a good one on Amazon.
The camp site itself was very big and private. Couldn’t see our neighbors. It was across the way from the outdoor showers (REALLY hot water…so nice!) and bathroom.
Dear frequently seen around the area too, which was cool.
We had a family emergency while there and Chris couldn’t have been more helpful dealing with it, which really took off the pressure. And stress. He communicates well within the app, so anything you need…ask. He’ll try to help.
All in all, we would HIGHLY recommend Chris’s beautiful property for your stay.

Hambone really takes pride in this land, and you can tell. Not only is he the most accommodating host we've had yet, but he's also the nicest man imaginable. His shower is amazing and although it's outside, it is just everything. He's also very knowledgeable about the area so if there's anything you're wondering, he probably knows the answer.

Chris is the best host! He is extremely friendly and one of those people you meet and don’t forget. His land is beautiful, he keeps up with everything, and he checked up on us every day! We also asked him for some suggestions and he gave great ones, he’s very knowledgeable about the area. We stayed in site 3 which seemed to be the best site and if/when we come back up we will go there again over any other campground!!

Outstanding host & great quiet location. Chris “Hambone” is a great human being & takes great pride in keeping up this slice of the UP. The outdoor shower w/hot water is worth the stop alone!! Hot coffee in the am.. if you are in the UP heading up M-77 towards Picture Rocks, stop by & stay.

We tent camped, and Site 1 was great! Close to the bathroom (the shower was amazing!!), nice shaded area with some privacy from the nearby sites, and flat enough for our tent. Host was great. Make the 15 minute trip to Grand Marais for food and a sunset if you have time!

A great spot provided by Chris. Zero light pollution, the stargazing was amazing. The outhouse pristine. Each site felt private and spacious. A great stop over on our trip. Pictured Rocks on the way out of town was an added bonus.

Great property, must've been treated for bugs because we didn't have many problems. The shower and outhouse were great, friendly host & free coffee in the morning. Would definitely stay again if in the area.

Our family had a great stay at High Swamp. Our site (#3) was extremely private & completely silent at night! The picnic table was clean and space was large enough for our family of 5 to spread out. Easy walk to the AMAZING outdoor shower (10/10) and impeccably clean bathroom with flush toilet and sink. We spent our days at close by Pictured Rocks and swimming at the Grand Marais beach about 12 min drive from the campground. This was our first time to the UP but we will definitely be back and will stay here again.

This was a great stop - very clean, and cleared sites. The site was large with a picnic table and fire ring. Even though this particular site is in a meadow, it still had privacy from the other sites. Chris came by shortly after I got set up and asked if I wanted coffee in the morning and it was ready and waiting even though I was up early - that is a great touch! only about 20ish minutes to Grand Sable from here. I would definitely stay here again and will next time I'm headed up to the shore.
