It was great! Chris is very friendly and has a wonderful space. The bathroom was nice and the sites were nicely spread out. I would definitely camp here again!

High Swamp Revisted

My second trip to High Swamp was even better than the first, solidifying its spot as my all-time favorite Hipcamp destination. While I’ve visited many excellent campsites over the years, Chris’s property is truly exceptional because you don't just feel like a visitor—you feel like an extended member of the family. Beyond the incredible hospitality, High Swamp's location in Seney is ideal for exploring the Upper Peninsula. I originally chose it for its proximity to Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore, but on this trip, I was thrilled to easily tackle the hike to Tahquamenon Falls, which is only about an hour away. The sites themselves are all are spacious and private. Chris has also clearly invested in guest comfort, even installing a new outdoor shower and private bathroom. Thanks again for the hospitality, Chris! We'll see you next time, with the family! Your #1 HipCamper!

Hambone! He is the man! Couldn’t recommend more. We had a blast a high swamp. Easy access to the national park and very clean and comfortable camping. Best outdoor shower and running toilet you could wish for. Thanks again!

We had a great stay at Hambone's property. Beautiful large site, no bugs and nice bathroom and shower facility. We enjoyed chatting with Hambone, he gave us tips on our trip that was a great help! We cannot wait to come back, thank you for everything. We even got some wet wood and struggled to make a fire, Hambone was gracious to go get us dry wood and even left us a fire starter at our site after we told him- So kind!! Loved staying on Chris’ land. He greeted me on arrival and also stopped by before I left. Appreciated the shower and outhouse setup. Lots of care went into it, I haven’t seen a combo like that with plumbing outdoors. Comfortable experience and shower can get hot as you want. I think a deer bumped into my tent one night. Loved the night sky view, so many stars and very dark. Very low bug area for late August at least. Grand Marais is super close and the beach area is nice.

Camping here was beyond great! Such a beautiful well maintained property and the owner was such a great person to chat with. The facilities were super clean and the outdoor shower was amazing. This was by far the best Hipcamp I’ve ever stayed at!

We highly recommend a stay at High Swamp Camp! Site #7 was spacious, convenient, and had very few mosquitos. It’s also a perfect site for stargazing 🌌 The campground itself is very well-maintained, peaceful, and private. We really appreciated hot water in the shower, a clean bathroom, and the flush toilet. All-around it was a great experience, and we hope to return again someday!

We loved our stay at High Swamp camp! We reserved sites 2 and 3 for a large group of us and it was such a great spot! Everyone was very pleased with the sites and the beauty of the grounds. We wanted a campground that did not feel like we were sleeping on top of our neighbors, and this was the perfect place. The bathroom was always clean and stocked (the running water was awesome) and the shower was such a treat. Chris greeted us multiple times during the trip, and it was very cool chatting with him and feeling welcomed. The bugs were bad, but that is too be expected anywhere in the UP so be sure to bring lots of bug spray. We kayaked the Fox/Manistique River in Germfask and went for a late-night trip to Grand Marais for Yooper light hunting both trips less than 20 minutes away! Overall, this trip was a huge success for all of us. We will be back!

Side by Siding and Relaxing

Chris has a beautiful place just off the main drag and a short ride to the trail system. Each spot is separated and private from the others so you feel like you’re all by yourself in the woods and ferns. The bathroom/shower exceeded my expectations. Chris was welcoming and very accommodating! My family and I will Definetly be staying here again when we return to the area.

This was my best Hipcamp experience so far! Chris’s place was above and beyond expectations and we would highly recommend a stay here! 10/10 Site #1 was shaded, great size and had a very convenient location across from the bathroom and outdoor shower. The shower was awesome! Hot water, clean environment and felt great after a long day of camping. Bathroom was equally great; very clean, comfortable and had a real flush toilet with stocked supplies. It was nice to have a real sink too! We will definitely be back during our next trip to the Pictured Rocks :) Bonus: our site had very few mosquitoes!! 🦟

Chris is a great host! We loved the exceptionally clean bathroom (real flushing toilet and sink) and hot outdoor shower. He also has Wi-Fi available on his porch so you can gps your route prior to leaving for the day. The land was well maintained and each camping spot is private and has plenty of room for tents, tables, rv’s, and vehicles. If you’re looking for a spot to stay in the area I recommend Chris’s land! Only a 20min drive to Grand Marais and H-58.

Had a wonderful stay at Chris’s place!.. sites are great with plenty of privacy..location is super convenient to Pictured Rocks NP as well as plenty of other local attractions in the area. Chris makes you feel right at home and is a wealth of information about the area.. Highly recommended and looking forward to staying again next time through..👍🏻

We loved camping at Chris's land. He had a site that fit our group of three couples with campers all on one campsite. so nice to be all together! His bathroom and outdoor shower are awesome-one of the best we have experienced. (and we have camped all over the United States) The campground was well kept and Chris visited with us a couple times, offering tips on sites to see in Pictured Rocks and Tahquamenon Falls State Park. We would definitely stay again if we are in the UP again.

Site 3 at High Swamp - Exceptional!

Booked last-minute and arrived around 9:30 PM. Chris, the host, kindly warned us about mosquitoes, but we didn’t mind as we just needed a place to sleep before heading to Pictured Rocks the next morning. The site was level, surrounded by trees for privacy, and easy to access via a decent 2-track. Signage was great. Restroom and shower was spotless. Chris checked in the next morning, ensuring we were comfortable, and we even spotted a deer outside our van. A peaceful, well-kept spot with a friendly host - we will definitely return!

We stayed at site 1 and loved camping here. It was well maintained with a very clean restroom and hot shower. The campsite was very spacious and quiet and we enjoyed gazing at all of the stars. Chris was a wonderful and gracious host who gave great recommendations and conversation. Highly recommend for anyone visiting the pictured rocks lakeshore area!
