GRADE-A "KAREN", HORRIBLE CAMPSITE
DO NOT CAMP HERE, ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE, RUDE MONEY-HUNGRY HOST, UNMARKED TRAILS, AND SEVERE DAMAGE TO YOUR CAR.
To cover my bases before spending $184 on a site (especially one with a cancellation policy that does NOT refund you a dime if you don't cancel 3 or more days before your check in day...who does that?), we messaged the host ahead of time to make sure we could drive into the site, especially since many in the area are listed as walk/hike-in & we had a car full of gear since we were coming from another Hipcamp site in CT - to which she said we could, & we quickly realized was a total lie. Show up & she shows my girlfriend & I around the 3 sites on her little 4 wheeler (all of which were empty, despite the app showing all were booked... red flag). Since this little 4wheeler buggie thing only had the driver & passenger seat, I had to sit in the back tiny maybe 4ft by 2ft bed that she almost knocked me out of driving crazy thru these backwoods. There are NO markings on the trails, no flags, paint, signs, etc. so obviously, when it was our turn to drive back there, we got lost. When we thought we made it back to the front, she comes FLYING towards us screaming & hollering that we have to turn around & go back the way we came despite absolutely no where for us to do so. She insisted that we could fit & would be fine despite the trails (or complete lack thereof) being several layers thick of muddy leaves, massive branches, & thorns scratching & scraping all sides of my brand new Hyundai Kona & almost ripping the cargo carrier off the hitch of my car. When we finally figured out where the site was (because she literally guided us there) she started complaining about how "no one else has had this hard of a time finding this place" despite maybe 10 minutes previous told my girlfriend that everyone else that had booked the other sites had just left that same day because they were having the EXACT same issues as us - its impossible to see where you're supposed to go, and ANY car or truck that drives back there will get stuck, especially with rain! (& of course, the lady was just outright rude!) To top off this mess, she had told my girlfriend "ill bring you some fresh eggs as a welcome gift!" then a little while later asked for her Venmo "to pay for them" - who does that?! After she left us at the site, we decided that staying wasn't an option because 1. we'd have to cut all our plans short (& ruin our vacation) to make it back before nightfall, since we cant navigate this in the daytime, night time would be impossible, 2. the trips in & out of this heavily wooded, uncleared "path" would extensively damage my brand new car with the amount of debris hanging around & on the floor (that could've easily been cleared had she cared enough to take the time to do so but was clearly too negligent), & 3. she admitted that she didn't really clean up, & had a very rude demeanor & attitude from the moment we showed up, despite us being very respectful & kind to her thru this entire debacle, & we really didn't appreciate the fact that we tried to voice our concerns & work with her to figure this out, & she just didn't care or want to help. So after driving 7hrs from CT to DE, at 630-7pm had to scramble to find another camp site (which in mid-June, prime camping season is not easy), & try to fly over there before the sun went down to set up camp with some light left. After finding a place, we somehow figured out how to make it back to Brenda's house & tried to calmly & respectfully explain our concerns once more & request a refund to which she very rudely, replied "I don't think so!" while smiling & laughing almost like she knew this would happen again & was almost banking on it, as it did with the other people before us. Obviously, I sent a message to HipCamp Customer Support, to which they responded that she said she had "offered us directions & a map" which is a complete lie, & had offered to let us park up by the house & bring all of our stuff back on the 4wheeler. Now again, this is why I messaged her to confirm this ahead of time and I would NOT have booked this if that was the case, since it obviously throws off the entire camping trip when we have a car & cargo carrier FULL of stuff, this would've taken minimum 8-10 trips & 2-3+hrs to bring all of the stuff over on this little 4wheeler buggie, THEN set up camp and have to call her up to give us a ride at 7am to get out of there and 10pm to get back every day? no way. To top it all off, HipCamp decided that they weren't going to refund me any money at all since "she did give us a map and directions" (again, BS - never happened) and would instead just give me a $32 credit. I will NEVER book on HipCamp again, and highly encourage everyone on here avoid using this bogus app and giving money to these skeevy, greedy hosts.
