Splitrock Farm and Retreat started in January 2021 after a global search of a place to set roots, live off the land, and create an amazing place for recreation, relaxation, and rejuvenation. Splitrock was part of a 160-acre avocado farm that prospered from 1970 to 2017, generating over 1million pounds of avocados per year until the previous owners switched off the water in 2017. Ben purchased 101 acres in 2021 with plans to harvest the dead avocado trees for firewood and replant with organic, sustainable crops such as grapes, citrus trees, and flowers. Splitrock's attraction comes from its unique groves, magnificent granite boulders, and sweeping vistas. Mixed within the avocado groves are several ancient groves and solitary trees that include 150+ foot tall pines, hundreds of old oaks, and soaring palms. Freckled throughout the hillsides are thousands of humongous granite boulders, offering a prehistoric feel to the landscape. Above all, Splitrock offers unrivaled views. Over 40 miles of coastline includes views to Point Loma, the Carlsbad power station, and the Pendleton Hospital. To the northeast are views of near 11K foot snowy peaks of San Jacinto and San Gorgonio, with rolling hills of De Luz and Fallbrook in the foreground.

Granite Tabernacle gets its name from a giant rock that split causing a tent (tabernacle is a fancy word for tent) to form. The Tabernacle is ultra-private campsite and, at 1,420 ft elevation, is the highest campsite with incredible views. The Granite Tabernacle campsite provides a designated fire pit, table + chairs, outdoor sink and potable water. It is accessible by any standard vehicle, however you will drive about a mile on gravel roads. Set-up your own tent or rent one from us by adding on a 13-ft empty bell tent to sleep up to 8 on the floor, or add up to 4 cots per tent. Get a full glamping experience with our canvas bell tent, mattress, and bedding. We will do the set-up and clean-up, just pull-up and start enjoying nature sooner. Jurassic Jungle

The most private, scenic, and wild campsite at Splitrock Farm and Retreat, Jurassic Jungle campsite sits at the very bottom of Splitrock Valley's campsites, tucked away against a natural spring and creek that flows almost all year under a canopy of live oaks with enough palms and boulders mixed throughout that it seems you are in Jurassic Park. The temp under the canopy stays 15-20 degrees cooler. There is space to fit around 6 tents/vehicles total (e.g. 3 cars, 3 tents) in the Jurassic Jungle area. It is the largest of the Splitrock Valley campsites. However, the road down to Jurassic Jungle can get slippery and it is steep in a couple spots, so some vehicles may want to park at the top pad and walk down 130 yards into the jungle. There is a 22ft by 22ft deck with synthetic turf that can be used for setting up tables, picnics, yoga, or your tent. Consider adding 13-ft bell tents that can sleep up to 8 on the floor on mats or sleeping bags, or 4 cots or we can fully glamp it up with mattresses, bedding, and tables for 2 people. These add-ons can be added at the time of booking or requested later. The Oak Grove Communal Camping

The Oak Grove Communal camping space consists of a 7-acre area all together with a dozen giant oak trees that create a 1.1-acre shade canopy. The communal/shared space is the "Stonetable" zone with picnic tables, wood burning grill, potable water spicket, and a large granite table. The Oak Grove has toilets and an outdoor propane heated shower for all guests to share. There are 18 numbered sites that are first come, first serve. Each site is unique, with some under the oak canopy and others spread around the prairie near boulder outcrops or other trees. Each site has a firepit. It is strictly one vehicle per booking/site. Please make a separate booking for every vehicle you are bringing. Groups that book 3 or more sites may contact us so we can reserve a cluster of sites together before your arrival. The entire Oak Grove area can also be booked, look for the 'Oak Grove Group Camping Site' on Splitrock or contact us. There is plenty of space to pitch a tent or pull up your campervan. It is the perfect site for family or friends to gather around the fire, have a BBQ, play games, or snooze and listen to the sounds of the rustling oaks. Please drive the long way around via the Oak Grove with larger rigs to avoid the steep road up from the Splitrock Spring. Shady Splitrock Spring

The Shady Splitrock Spring is at the heart of Splitrock Farm and Retreat, and is a true oasis with a natural spring that feeds a small pond surrounded by beautiful ancient palms, oaks, agave, pepper, and pines that soar over 100 feet to grab the ever-present ocean breezes. The rustling of the trees is meditative, and attracts a variety of birds and other animals. The former homesteaders built an outdoor fire grill that is available for use alongside the firepit and gazebo that was part of the homestead built in the 1920s-1960s. The Steelbox Spa is right across the road and has flushing toilets, hot showers, and ask about a massage. There is room to setup 4-6 tents, or back in a 32ft RV within the fenced area. Ideal for small events (25 or less), there is a nice pad overlooking the pond that can be used to set-up tables, yoga, and more. The Spring is often visited by the free range goats, alpaca, sheep, pigs, and Great Pyrenees, who are all over-friendly to people, kids, and dogs....as long as they are respected. Please do not book Shady Spring if you or your dogs are uncomfortable around farm animals. The Shady Spring has a fence along the road that helps keep animals and kids safe, however it is not fenced all the way around, only along the road. Please be careful around the pond as it is not separately fenced and is deeper than it looks. Granite Gulch

Granite Gulch is nestled above a deep gulch carved out by the Splitrock Creek, which is fed by several springs. Giant boulders and rock faces line the gulch, with a variety of oaks, palms, and fauna that sprouts near the springs. The campsite has a private campfire and picnic area tucked between the boulders and oaks that provide plenty of shade. The entire Oak Grove Group Camping space consists of a 7-acre area all together with a dozen giant oak trees that create a 1.1-acre shade canopy. This is great for large group bookings and can accommodate 150+ guests. The Oak Grove is normally bookable in 16 sites with our Oak Grove Communal Camping booking, and therefore we need to confirm its availability for a private group and block off the 16 sites, which is why we need to approve your request to book. You may book several of the Oak Grove Communal sites and cluster them together for smaller groups that do not need the entire site. Please contact us for more information. There is plenty of space to pitch a tent or pull up your campervan. It is the perfect site for family or friends to gather around the fire, play games, or snooze and listen to the sounds of the rustling oaks. On a clear day, you can see the blue horizon of the Pacific Ocean, and its constant breeze further cools the air under the oak canopy. You may set up your own tents, and we also offer add-on items to make your stay with us a full glamping experience by renting additional canvas bell tents, cots, and bedding. The Oak Grove Communal Camping
We car camped at site 3 of Oak Grove. The parking space was secluded by bushes, and we didnt need to use the rest of the site, so it was really nice. We could see the city lights from the site, which were very beautiful at night 😁. The bathrooms were clean and private. The roads were windy coming up to the property, but manageable with care. It was fun seeing the friendly and pettable goat herd roam the place and hearing them talk to each other. They visited our site one morning too 🐐! The view from the observation deck on the property was beautiful, and we could see the ocean from there! We explored the property, popped in the river at the nearby nature preserve, and toured the town (with froyo🍨) as fun activies. It can also be a totally no-contact stay as there are signs for guidance. Great stay, and we plan to come again!

The Oak Grove Communal Camping
Overall we had a good time. Unfortunately the water wasn't working, so the toilets didn't work either. The goats were nice, except they knocked down our tent then went #1 and #2 on it. We enjoyed the location, views, and quietness.

Rock Bottom w/ a View from the Top
So my wife and I were needing a weekend away, and we found it here. The view we had from our camp spot was beautiful. At night, we got to look down into the city and see all the light sparkling. During the day, we got to see some wildlife as well. This spot was worth it, but I recommend getting here before dark; this location can be hard to see at night.

Jurassic Jungle
This campsite was great! Jurassic Jungle is tucked down in Splitrock Valley. It’s a large site area and very private. We saw goats roaming, hiked the 5K with navigational assistance from the interactive map, and watched the sunset from the observation deck. We had a great weekend, highly recommend camping here!

Loved the farm and camp sites. My son and I had a great time. The only reason I picked mixed feeling is because there are definitely better spots on the property than VW bus site. The best is probably the free roaming goats. Kids will love it.

Great spot, the goats are awesome. If you have a trailer or big camper I'd recommend coming up the Fallbrook/Temecula side because coming from the 15 FWY adds miles of curvy road.

This place is the best spot I've encountered! I stayed at the communal spot and Hilltop Hideout. I love the views and seclusion of the hideout but also the wide open areas of the communal grounds. It's down to preference. The views are amazing. I felt like I was in a different planet!

The land was super cool; it was not what you would expect from a traditional campground, but the area was beautiful. There are goats everywhere, and the drive was very scenic. It took a bit to find our spot, just make sure you use Google Maps over the screenshot of the map. I didn't realize they did activities, or I wouldn't have left so soon.

We tent camped at the T-Rex creek site in Split Rock and loved it! Such a cool place, I’m super grateful they are willing to share their land this way. Loved hearing/seeing the goats all over the place as well as the many other animals. The views are incredible all over the property. Favorite place to camp in SoCal yet! It was nice that there were showers and toilets on the property. Also got fire wood from the camp store each day. No fault of the owners but campers just prepare for the nature as we had lots of ants at our site.

We camped a couple days with our trailer at the Redtail Rock site and it was great! Lots of room to pull in, site was really clean with water/firepit/table. We loved walking the property and meeting up with the goats, alpaca, and dogs. We didn’t interact with anyone from the property but didn’t really need anything, it’s all pretty easy to figure out. Walk up to the observation deck at sunset for a spectacular view! We will be back!

Rock Bottom w/ a View from the Top
Overall we had a fine experience. The campsite itself was ok, good views, private. I did hear car noise from down the hill during the night. The toilet was a trek and even though it says in the description there is potable water near the camp store or various other places, I could not find it. There were no signs indicating water. There was no one around to ask. The communication I had back via hipcamp messaging was very slow. There isn't really any area to hang out in shade, so you must bring your own. Overall, it wasn't the most well kept site I have been to and there was nothing there that made it welcoming or fun to chill.

We just returned from a fantastic stay at Hilltop Hideout within Splitrock Farm and Retreat, and it was exactly the escape our group needed. We had a crew of 8 adults and 3 kids, and the layout worked perfectly for us. The Highlights: The Glamping Experience: We opted for the pre-arranged tent and bedding setup. It was worth every penny! Everything was clean, cozy, and ready for us the moment we arrived—it really took the stress out of "roughing it" with a large group. Privacy & Space: The Hilltop Hideout is ideal for larger groups (it could easily fit up to 14). It’s wonderfully secluded, meaning we didn't have to worry about foot traffic or neighbors. Having the entire area to ourselves made for a very relaxing, intimate atmosphere. Farm Friends: The roaming goats were a massive hit. The kids love petting them; it’s a great touch that makes this spot feel like a true farm retreat. The Amenities: Overall, the bathroom facilities are great and well-maintained. One quick tip: While the bathrooms are nice, we couldn't get the hot water in the shower to work during our stay. If you’re visiting in cooler weather, you might want to double-check the heater settings with the host! Despite the cold shower, we had an incredible time. The views, the peace, and the goats made it a trip to remember. We will definitely be back!

Nice place to stay. Beautiful spot on the top of a pretty large hill, road was pretty but definitely a lot of sharp turns. Higher elevation so a bit cooler than down at sea level.

The tabernacle was really nice and secluded like mentioned in the description but for my wife, toddler and I, it was a little too secluded for us. Great for a group or a couple that are looking for a really quiet camp site. We got a lay of the land and already booked another trip in the community campgrounds.

It was relaxing and serene. There were other campsites and campers, but were far apart from each other ! Very Peaceful & Serene ! Very comfortable - like camping off grid without the worry of anything happening - only heard a couple coyotes in the distance ! Bring water, Food, and cooking essentials- there is 1 bathroom 1/4 mile from rock bottom I’m self contained so no worries ! Weather was great ! Lots of hiking trails !

Pretty straightforward. Instructions on how to get there in campsite. Rules were easy to access and follow. Upon arrival, we appreciated how organize split rock was, making the navigation to the campsite easy. These were beautiful, and our campsite gave us a lot of privacy would go again!

Horizons
We had an amazing time tent camping at the Horizons site. The views were amazing, beautiful sunrise and star gazing at night . We were traveling with teens (16 and 14 yr old) thankfully we had spotty cell service which gave them time to explore the trails and climb the big rocks. The directions to our site were clear . The bathrooms were clean and it was only a short 5min walk from our site. We will definitely be back .

The place was super cool! Awesome that it’s really not far out of town and you still get a good camping vibe. Trex creek was very cool but the useable space is very limited. So keep that in mind if you book it. Neat spot though! Also, the goats, dogs, and wildlife are very noisy. So if that bothers you be aware. All in all a great trip for us though. Easy to get into, nice little camp shop if you need it. Decent bathroom. Will definitely go back and try out a larger campsite too!

Hilltop Hideout
This is a wonderful property with good amenities, opportunities for privacy, and solid management. The communication was excellent… The only mistakes made were due to a failure of reading on my part. We stayed at the hilltop hideout site, which was tucked away from the rest of the campers and had an epic view. We only purchased wood from the camp store, but it looked like they had everything you need. Our kids played with the goats, who were all friendly and visited our campsite one afternoon. The bathrooms were clean and appeared to be regularly managed. All in all, I don’t really have anything negative to say… We will certainly return to this campsite when we’re looking for something easy with friends.

Horizons is about as private as a campsite gets. Provides amazing views with lots of space to hike and explore. It’s not very far from the restrooms and is a good distance away from the goats if you like your space. Only complaint is that the restrooms and showers were a little janky, but they’re kept pretty clean and they work (with warm water) so 9/10 overall!👍👍
