Otter Valley Farm sits in a sunny valley cradled by redwood forest. On one side of the property we host serene campsites nestled under the redwoods and on the other we run a small farm, garden and homestead with a menagerie of animals. We enjoy many warm sunny days in summer, with occasional foggy mornings. Fall and spring are both pleasant with a combination of sun, clouds and rain. Colder winters are moderated by coastal influence and California climate.
Relax at camp, in the meadow or enjoy many nearby activities for kids and adults alike. Just 2.5 hours north of the Bay Area, the farm is near many local hiking trails amongst the world's tallest trees. We are a 30 min drive to the town of Mendocino and the many treasures of the Northern California Coast, including majestic beaches, fresh fish, whale watching, paddle boarding, kayaking, surfing, hiking, hot springs etc. A drive of equal distance inland will take you to Anderson Valley, home of Hendy Woods State Park and a mecca for cider and wine tasting.
Be advised that this is a working farm and there is an echo in the valley. While it is peacefully quiet most of the time, you may hear some daytime farm activity. We also have a guard dog who moves around with our flock of sheep and goats. She barks regularly after dark and when she perceives a potential predator. Please do not touch or enter the electric fences that contain the livestock. Do not try to pet or feed the livestock.
***There is no cell service on or within 15 minutes of our property. Wifi and a landline phone are available to campers in case of emergencies.
**Pets must be kept on a leash at all times! For the safety of everyone including your pets, our dogs, and the various livestock on the farm, we can't allow any pets off leash.

Meadow Car Camp/RV Site 7
Camping in the (frozen!) Meadow
The property was beautiful and quiet. I arrived in the dark and the gate code wasn't working until I realized there are two padlocks! Also, there is a purple tie in the tree to hold the gate open when you drive through! I wasn't able to see it until the am but if you're alone and need the gate to stay just know it's there! Bathroom was super clean... I was in my van but the camp sites looked pretty sweet! would recommend (although very cold in the fall/winter in the night!) I appreciate the opportunity to stay, especially on a last minute reservation.

Beautiful campsite that is peaceful, well maintained, and easy to find! Margot was a fantastic host and we would recommend this site to anyone, especially if you are seeking a rejuvenating weekend away!

The location is probably better suited to access the Anderson Valley than the coast. While the property is pretty large the actual campsites are relatively close together. There is a guard dog for the sheep that barks pretty frequently during the night so if you are sensitive to that it could be an issue (it didn't really bother us)
We had another group show up at around 11pm that took until a bit after 2am to get set up. Not the hosts fault but a little annoying.

Redwood Tent Site 4
The little redwood grove and sunny prairie are lovely, and I appreciated that it was relatively close to Orr hotsprings where we spent the day. The check-in instructions were clear and easy. It would have been great to have a picnic table to comfortably prepare a meal though. The site really is just a flat spot among the trees and a port-a-pottie a few hundred feet away. Maybe there was a water spigot, but we didn’t stay to find out because there was no were to safely and comfortably prepare a meal.

Beautiful space, and great as a jumping off point for exploring more local wineries and the coast! Clean bathroom, peaceful land/surroundings, and generous, responsive hosts!

The stars were incredible and the campsite was wonderful! The dogs do bark a lot throughout the night but I was so tired, I didn't mind it too much.
