40min to Pinn/Song of the Ancients

This was my second trip to Song of the Ancients. My main purpose in going is to photograph stars from one of the darkest places in California. The relaxing, laid back vibe is just a bonus.

This was a great camping experience! Veronica was very friendly, helpful, and shared her knowledge about the beautiful blue oak trees that I pitched my tent under. Because Google Maps doesn’t give correct directions, Veronica’s directions were very helpful and easy to follow. This camp was tidy with a large picnic table, small end table, fire pit, trash can, and a close enough drive from Pinnacles National Park. Having an outdoor shower after a long day of hiking was glorious. Would come back here again if planning on visiting Pinnacles!

Great night sky, astrophotography

My son and I camped in site 2 (Pumas) in August of 2026. There are some bumpy twisty roads and some dirt roads that you have to drive on to get to Song of the Ancients, but it is worth it for the dark clear skies. In addition to plenty of beautiful shooting stars (meteorites) we could see the Milky Way clearly in the sky, and using binoculars we were able to see the andromeda galaxy. We ran into some other stargazers in the next campsite who had a small telescope and using that we also Had a beautiful view of Saturn and its rings. The main reason we came to this campsite was for my teenaged son to use his SeeStar S50 digital star tracking camera to capture images of nebulae and galaxies. On our first night he got some nice shots of the iris nebula, elephant’s trunk nebula, and eagle nebula. On the second night his camera tracked the andromeda galaxy for 5 hours and he was able to set it to create a beautiful mosaic picture of the galaxy. We also got some nice pictures of the Milky Way in the sky with our iPhones using the photo app’s night sky max mode to take 30 second exposures in a tripod. See included photos.

Camping in beautiful solitide

What a beautiful and quiet place, full of rabbits and squirrels (they didn’t create any problem for us, just allowed us to be alongside them, and they were so cute and curious), and a few times coyotes calling in the night. Just sitting and looking at the landscape with utter quietness with soft bird calls and rustling: what a gift. Golden light at sunset and dawn. We spent 3 days, going to Pinnacles, to Point Lobos, and to other beaches. It was a solid home base. Rustic but all the basics taken care of. And Veronica the host was quite warm, responsive, nice, we felt kindly attended to, indeed. Thank you, Veronica! Fare thee well!

Beautiful property and perfect if you’re looking for privacy. We chose this property because we wanted a place where our dogs could relax without constantly seeing people or other dogs, and it was perfect for that. The privacy made all the difference. I loved taking my dogs on hikes without running into cars or crowds. It truly felt like we had acres and acres to ourselves. Our favorite part was watching the little bunnies pop in and out of their burrows around the property. The fresh, clean drinking water was a wonderful bonus, and it was nice walking by the horses. We stayed at Site 4 because it was the closest to the bathroom and drinking water. After arriving, we realized that was a great decision. I always seem to need the bathroom, so having it just a short walk away made our stay much more convenient. One thing to keep in mind is that there are no nearby stores, so be sure to bring everything you need before you arrive. We also found out that the host is willing to share the Wi-Fi password. Also, be aware that the pricing is per person, not per campsite. I searched for a site that could accommodate up to seven people and booked for seven because that was the maximum number who might attend. In the end, we had six people the first night and five the second night. I didn’t realize until I got home that I had been charged per p per person, so it’s worth double-checking your guest count before booking. Overall, we were pleased.

My dog and I truly enjoyed spending time on Veronica's land. She's very friendly, the posted pictures do it justice, there was enough shade and plenty of open expanse for the stargazing I was seeking (some clouds rolled in on the second day, but that was lovely too), and the wild bunnies were absolutely enthralling for my dog. He definitely wants to come back and visit the bunnies! It was my first solo camping trip, and Veronica did a great job of chatting me up for a bit at the beginning and putting me more at ease. I felt like I was getting away and camping on my own but like I wasn't completely isolated, which was good for me. Looking forward to coming back someday. Thanks, Veronica!

We had mixed feelings about this camp. It is immerse in an amazing landscape, in the middle of nowhere (40 minutes away from a town). We struggled to find it, as it is not listed on Google Maps and the owner had to send us the directions via text. The camp is divided in 2: the private property (defined with a cord), that has the “shower”/toilet, and a camp for the tent. The camp is outside of the defined area, so to reach the amenities you need to enter the private property. Our spot was next to the entrance. The land (private side) is unfortunately messy, with a lot of abandoned things (pieces of cars, old tables, trash etc.). We were the only campers and did not feel 100% safe. We ended up leaving after sunset.

Campground doesn’t exist!

Hi I booked this place because I couldn’t get a reservation at Pinnacles National Park. I got to where my GPS said it was supposed to be and there was just a locked gate with no mailbox, address, or sign. I looked at the addresses to left and right and that’s where this campground should have been. After driving up and down the road a few times I saw there was a fire station about a mile down the road. I stopped there and talked to a really nice fireman who looked on his GPS and verified that’s where the place should have been. He then told me how to get to a gas station and to the National Park where I used their WiFi to find another camp reservation on a Saturday. I don’t know if the owner of this place passed away or went out of business in the 5 months since I had made the reservation. I got no messages from her asking where I was or if I was still coming or not.

Very quiet spot in the middle of nowhere. Sites are clean. Water clean. Site 2 has the best shade. The wind seems to be always blowing so it keeps temperatures down.

I visited Song of the Ancients during a new moon to enjoy the stars, and was not disappointed! That would have been enough for me, but campground was well taken care of and the host was friendly and eager to make sure her guests had everything they needed. I will definitely be going back.

We had a wonderful weekend camping with friends at Veronica’s place. It was peaceful and beautiful. Even with the other sites booked, we still had privacy and plenty of relaxation. We had a central home base to travel to Monterey for the day as well as hike Pinnacles the other day.

Tried to stay here three years ago but plans changed so much that we had to postpone. We finally made the trip. Veronica was very accommodating and was present when we needed assistance. Lots of wild animals like rabbits and squirrels running around which was cute. We would totally stay here again if we want to be outdoors and not venture too far out from the Bay Area.

Nature at its finest

Veronica was extremely pleasant and provided a warm welcome. The property was very peaceful. Campsites were clean and tidy. The drive to pinnacles national park was about and hour drive, but the scenery was nice. Very little traffic. It gives you a good look at rural California. There is no cell service, but the campsite has wifi access on the property. If you're there at the right time of year, ask veronica about the shrimp that live in a vernal pond on her property. It was quite an eye opener for my son and I.

Veronica’s land was breathtakingly beautiful. We loved staying here, the most over the valley with the mountains hanging in the background was a dreamy way to wake up. The blue oaks around the property have an ancient beauty to them that also lends to the feeling of enchantment. We will definitely be back, highly recommend!

Near pinnacles national park 45 min

Veronica’s Camping area was scenic and remote. There were lots of cute critters, hot shower, and flush toilet. Campsites were spacious. It’s a bit remote so be sure to download maps before heading out.
