Dolliver Memorial State Park

River trips with a side of history and geological wonders. Yes please! Down at the Des Moines river you will find all this and more at Dolliver Memorial State Park. This park has a ramp on the river which is a popular put-in and take-out spot for canoe trips and a great fishing spot. There is so much more though in the form of scenic bluffs and canyons, charming creeks, historic Indian mounds, and a bison bone graveyard called Boneyard Hollow which has a mysterious origin. Geologists will be wowed by the Copperas Beds where you can see a cross section of an ancient river bed left in a 100-foot bluff full of mineral deposits, sandstone cliffs, and petrified driftwood. Camping and cabins are available so bring the fam and stay awhile!
