The cabins are primitive, no electric or water. There are solar lights inside and and out also a propane wall heater for chilly nights. This is comfortable camping in the Beautiful Mountains of WV. There is a shower house with instant hot water and outside spigots for water, a porta potty, a fire-pit for cooking and camp fires at night while star gazing. The property is over 100 acres in Greenbrier county WV. There is a lot of history in this area. There are tons of wildlife on the property as well. We have awesome trails with GREAT Views for hiking or horse back riding should you decide to bring your own equine. Pets are allowed with prior notice (not to be left unattended in the cabins). We have a private dog park that you will have access to on the property. We also offer doggie daycare & boarding here at the farm (prior proof of vaccine is required) should you need our services. What makes W.T. Farm special is the diversity of textures of the landscape. We have great mountain top views, as well as, a deep holler with cliffs, rock outcroppings, and waterfalls. The fields are full of fruit and nut trees and there are 5 ponds. Each of these supports its own flora and fauna.
I acquired stewardship of this land years ago and have developed perennial orchards wherever possible. I started with pears and have branched out into pawpaws, apples, persimmons, currants, black walnuts etc. and I boast that I planted the first commercial hickory oil orchard in the world. I am an eccentric horticulturalist and graft cultivar varieties onto existing trees like oaks, hickories, black walnuts, and even the maligned invasive honeysuckle, autumn olive and multiflora rose.
Just last year I bought an adjoining farm that opened up 50 acres of more orchard planting. It is on top of the mountain and offers an expansive view of the valley and ridge system that defines our region. Funny thing is that because the land between the old farm and the new farm is divided by cliffs in the holler the only way to get from one to the other is a 12 minute drive or vigorous hiking. On this new land is a historic log cabin I am renovating that is said to be one of the original settler's cabin on the mountain.
Because of the amount of tree fruit I grow and the varied landscape, there is a rich diversity of birds and animals to be seen. One of my favorite walks is along the cliffs to the top waterfall where there is a sweet wading pool. I have also built a number of ponds and four of them are quite swimmable. One has a dock and is where we spend much summer time refreshing and frolicking.
The farm is also a small (very small) licensed farm winery and we make and sell traditional hard cider from our apples and pears. Our cider can be purchased along with our nut oils and flours and other farm produce you may not be familiar with. We live to eat. Coming here is a gastronomical adventure!
I run the Acornucopia project from here and from it we are developing a foragers network that would very much suit the lifestyle of hipcampers. We pay foragers for wild nuts they gather. Also often there is an opportunity to work on the farm harvesting and processing food. Let me know if that is something you would like to do.

Come camp at the top of the mountain on our private, undeveloped land. You’ll have access to miles of trails through wildflower meadows, old-growth forest, and ridgeline views. The site is peaceful, remote, and surrounded by native plants and wildlife.
This is a primitive campsite — there’s no running water, buildings, or electricity. It’s best suited for campers comfortable with a backcountry setup who want quiet, privacy, and natural beauty.
4WD Access Required:
The campsite is located at the top of a mountain. You’ll need a four-wheel-drive vehicle to access it. Though we are happy to arrange a shuttle for your gear with advance notice.
Water:
There is a year-round creek nearby with non-potable water. Perfect for rinsing off or washing dishes. Bring your own drinking water or a filter. 6 gallons of water will be left at the campsite to put out the fire or wash your hands.
Firewood Provided:
We supply firewood for each stay. Bring your own firestarter or lighter.
⚠️Please don't bring in firewood, it can introduce pest and pathogens harmful to the forest.
Trash Drop-Off:
Please pack out your trash. A drop-off point is available at the base of the mountain near the exit.
Cell Service:
Cell signal is strong at the campsite but I encourage you to unplug and take in the surroundings (P.S. The pictures don't do the land justice!)
Wildlife:
This is a natural, wooded area. Expect to see birds, deer, and maybe raccoons. Bears are uncommon but possible — store food securely and follow Leave No Trace practices.
No Bathroom On-Site:
You’ll need to bring a portable toilet, dig a cat hole, or use a wag bag system. Please be respectful of the land and other future guests.
Seclusion & Stargazing:
You’ll have plenty of space and privacy. On clear nights, the sky opens up, making it perfect for stargazing. There’s very little light pollution here and from late summer through early fall, the Milky Way is visible overhead.
You’ll see different native plants and wild edibles depending on the time of the year.

Lazy River Farm has so much to offer. Tents sites are in a wooded setting, on a beautiful hill, spread out for privacy. Not at the river. Camp sites also have fire rings with wood available for you to use. Campers are welcome to use any wood that's on the ground near or around your site. Camp sites can be accessed with a high clearance 4 wheel drive vehicle or walk up the hill to your site. With easy access down to the river, by walking or driving, you can cool off in the beautiful Cow Pasture River.
Glamping in the Vardo Wagon is another option, with its close proximity to the river and cozy interior. The Gypsy Rose sleeps 2, but can sleep 2 additional guests with a tent.
Paddle boards and kayaks are available for free if you paddling near the farm. (Life jackets are limited but are required, so if you have one bring it) drop in a line to fish, or simply sit by the river and listen to the soft rapids.
Lazy River Farm is a working farm, with lovely Scottish Highland Cattle, pigs, chickens, horses and livestock guardian dogs.. Your welcome to come and pet the animals. Do not feed animals. Do not go into fields or stalls with any of them.

Bill’s land is extraordinary. Super peaceful and beautiful. Bill was very welcoming and very helpful and nice. If I had any complaints it would be that the flat area that is cleared for a tent to set up is a little small, we were sleeping at an angle. More suitable for a 3-4 person tent. But overall we had an amazing time and would definitely come back!

We drove our rented Class C RV to Brian’s place and it was heaven! Best Hipcamp spot yet. There was an intense (and amazing) thunderstorm that night and we were concerned the ground might get soft so we drove up to the house for the rest of the night. In the morning ended up we would have been fine staying where we were. Brian was helpful on options for driving back down the mountain. This place is the best!

Had a great weekend! Beautiful property and view from the campsite. Hosts are incredibly gracious and welcoming (and have adorable goats). Definitely recommend having AWD, it can be difficult to get up the hill to the site after it rains. Will definitely be staying here again next time we’re in the area!

The cows, on the other hand, were bothersome, but we happened to be there as they were being weaned. Nonetheless, we'll be returning for certain.

The camp hosts were communicative and made sure our stay was comfortable. They have the sweetest dogs who would visit from time to time as well!

A very convenient Hipcamp, only a couple of miles off of I-81 in Buckanan. Site was very roomy for our 5x10 camper. The owner Ashlee was very accommodating and responsive to communications. A very pleasant experience staying at the Wild River Mushroom Farm. Would definitely stay again.

Very private and peaceful! We stayed at Hidden Valley campsite. The stars were beautiful. The campsite was super clean and Brian was very friendly. Word to RV campers, the hills on Brian’s property were steep, 4wd is a must, but the biggest concern for trailers would be the roads getting up the mountain from town. Incredibly steep and lots of tight switch backs. We have a Tacoma with a 17ft Casita and anything much bigger would struggle up there. Just a warning if you have a big camper rig. Sometimes the best spots are the hardest to reach! Totally worth it.

The view and spot very beautiful and quiet! During check in I didnt get to meet nNed but I met his wife and she was very nice and helpful. The campsite is well maintained and spacious. My girlfriend and I are very very glad we came here as this was our first time camping.

Great proximity to the greenbrier river trail halfway point with gated secure camping area. Well spaced sites with general store in walking/biking distance. Well maintained and available firewood.

Beautiful campground located adjacent to greenbrier rail trail and river. Very convenient to camp and base out of to ride the trails.
