Want to see 5 star panoramic views of the Appalachian Mountains? This ultra-safe, ultra-private property is located only 10 minutes off interstate 77. There is only one farm past ours so road traffic is very minimal. Plenty of room to do what you and your pets want to do while exploring our 60 acres. The sun rises up behind the view and lets you see just a little further. It is nothing short of amazing. The sunrises are always different and some are the most beautiful you have ever seen. The mornings sunrise and the stars out here on a clear night are two of the best things this mountain has to offer. It will not disappoint. We can accommodate up to a 35ft RV. The best part is no long walks, you can park at the campsites and camp on flat ground. Each campsite features chairs, a bench, a swing and a camp cooktop that is fueled by your campfire. Nothing is needed to use the cook tops other than a campfire. The local area has lots to do. Several National Parks, rivers and trails. View stars as only those miles away from any light can experience. The crickets and whippoorwills will sing you to sleep. Bluestone Camp & Retreat is a Presbyterian Summer Camp Program with organized summer youth and family camp activities over 4 weeks in June and July, and a three-season Retreat Destination for a variety of church, non-profit, and family groups April through November. We are a ministry of the Presbytery of West Virginia (PCUSA) serving member congregations as well as many other church and non-profit organizations.
Bluestone has been in operation since 1953. Our Mission is to provide experiences that are character building in nature through Summer Camping Programs and other programmatic events for children, youth, and adults; and to provide opportunities for recreation, rest, and renewal through the use of our facilities as a Center of Christian Hospitality.
We have five camp sites that overlook the Bluestone Lake Reservoir. Each is a clearly defined 60' x 20' space along one side of a level grass field, and each is equipped with a 50/30/20 amp electric pedestal, water spigot, sewer drop, picnic table, and an above ground steel campfire pit. There is also a shower house available for Hipcampers to use.
We have two price points:
1. Our Regular Price per night is $40 based on double occupancy. Each additional person (ages 12 and older, max = 6 people per site) is $10.
2. Our price increases to $55 per night for the months of June and July which is our high season. Each additional person (ages 12 and older, max = 6 people per site) is $10.
Youth and Children ages 11 and younger are free, so keep that in mind when you select the number of guests in your party!

This area has a very different climate than many other parts of Virginia. We are located in a Köppen Climate Classification Zone Cfb, which is a Temperate Oceanic Climate (or sometimes called Marine West Coast Climate). Yes, the Southwest Mountains of VA have a maritime climate! Think Coastal Alaska, Pacific Northwest, or British Columbia to get an idea of our climate. All of which means our summers are cooler (average of 83 in August) with low humidity, and our winters are milder. So this is a great place to escape the hot humid Virginia summers!
We experience four true seasons, and the colors in the fall season are some of prettiest on the East Coast and perfect for leaf peeping!
We have deer, wild turkey, bear, chipmunks, raccoons, wild rabbits, Whip-poor-wills, and opossums on the property. Plus, the fireflies at night can be beautiful!
Plus, we've yet to see a mosquito!
You will be the only camper on the property, my RV is on site and is used as guest quarters when I have company, but this is rare.
There is no cell phone coverage and limited strength wifi, so unplug and relax!
The Camping Site is part of our mountainside property located in Long Hollow and sits on the edge of 7 acres of pasture, which leads to 7 acres of White Pine Forest you are welcome to use for walking, wildlife viewing, dog walking, etc.. It is conveniently located less than 2/10s a mile from Rt. 16, and 5 miles from I-81.
Our neighbors are quiet but you may hear their donkey braying or chickens clucking. We ask that you do not disturb the neighbors or interact in any way with their animals. There is a Firepit and Picnic Table for your use.
I try to keep a supply of firewood on hand which you are welcome to use, but if I run out you may have to get some wood elsewhere. You can scavenge fallen wood to burn.....

This camping experience takes place on a 200+ year old farm. We currently offer multiple camping options, most of which are only accessible by either all-wheel drive or 4-wheel drive vehicles. The first location (along the main road) is solely for RVs or travel trailers (TT). The other camping locations are for tent camping, and much smaller/narrower and rugged RV/TT with a 4-wheel drive towing vehicle.
Daniel and Cherith Kennedy purchased this 164-acre farm in 2014, and Daniel's parents, Brent Rita Kennedy, purchased the 1800's era farmhouse from Daniel and Cherith a couple years later. Together, we have transformed this farm back into a working farm with hay fields, cattle, donkeys, goats, sheep, chickens and any other critters we buy or rescue. We are currently rehabilitating the 1700's era one room schoolhouse at the front corner of our land as well. This farm is full of memories, hard work, and is absolutely stunning.
Your hosts on-site are Brent and Rita Kennedy, and they are famous for spoiling our guests rotten. They can give you tours of the farm, some in-season eggs and veggies as they have available, and even throw in some petting opportunities. They love having visitors and are sure to make your trip memorable.

We have traced this farm's history back to the 1750's when a mill was built on Reed Creek. There is a log home that we know that was built in 1840 still on the premises. The white farm house across from the camp sites was built in 1877.
The fish hatchery that is still in operation today was built by the Federal Government in 1923.

The farm house was built in 1877 and the Ranch currently operates with 30 head of cattle and a working trout hatchery. We have traced this farm lineage back to the 1750's when a mill was constructed at the meeting of Tate Run and Reed Creek by Swiss Immigrant Henry Grubb.
Camping here along Reed Creek is peaceful and quiet. Located just a few short miles from town it is easy to get to ...but a long way from the world at large. In Short, it is lovely and we hope you enjoy it.

Camping at the Hilltop Sunrise was awesome! This spot is close to the road which is great for access and phone service! Traffic wasn’t too noisy at night. The host, John, is incredibly welcoming and helpful. John made sure all facilites were working and showed me a cute little frog that was hanging out by the laundry. The hot shower is a major perk of this spot. I camped in my car and used the platform to hang out in my camp chair and do some yoga. I definitely recommend staying here!

Secret Spot was perfect for our camping trip. This was my second time staying here (first time with the whole family). The property offers great peace and quite along with ample space for kids to explore. Its within easy driving distance to the parks further north. Kroger in town had everything we needed.

Weekend Trip to Hilltop Sunrise Camping and RV Site
The bunkie cabin at Hilltop Sunrise has genuinely been one of my favorite places I’ve stayed. The bunkie was homey and had all the necessities for our stay. It was the perfect mix of camping and comfort. Our host, John, was beyond kind, gave great recommendations for the area, and answered any questions we had promptly. I am already thinking of my next trip to WV and will absolutely stay at Hilltop Sunrise again!

Absolutely gorgeous area. Very well maintained fire pit was already stocked with wood and kindling for us our first night. Outhouse was very clean an added bonus for sure. The stars were Amazing we got some awesome shots of the sky. We had our truck camper and used rocks to level out there were big ones available near by. The other vehicle in our party was hauling a 21’ overland bumper pull camper. He fit in just fine in and out. Great spot will definitely book again

Weekend Trip to Stay by the New River
Stayed here for my second time, just as impressed as I was after my first visit. The land is close to the National Park with proximity to and a beautiful view of the New River. With the heater and fan within the shack any temperature for sleeping can be found. The cots are comfortable and the bathroom is clean. Met the host this trip and she was very nice and accessible. There are chairs and a fire pit along the bank of the river that provide a wonderful sunset experience. Just know once the sun goes behind the mountains on the other side of the gorge it can get chilly, even on a warm day.
I will continue to heavily recommend this site and plan to return.

We were greeted by the host upon arrival, no issues getting there. We stayed at Salamander Springs for 2 nights. It was the most flat spot for our setup. 3 small stream crossings. Also brought 2 atvs . Secluded and trails is why I chose this . Kirk’s Corner has the BEST view but too small for our setup. We cooked steak, vegetables, bbq pork, hamburgers and hotdogs all on our campfire. No complaints.

I had a fantastic time at Site 104 on Tony’s mountaintop retreat. The views were absolutely everything and truly breathtaking. They stood out as the highlight of my entire stay. The campsite was very well maintained with a nice fire pit and chairs, a pleasant little trail right on site, drinking water, and a portajohn on the property.
Tony was an excellent host and very responsive and helpful with any questions I had. It is a little far from the New River Gorge Bridge, but it is still a wonderful and peaceful spot that is totally worth it. I highly recommend it!

Fantastic, tranquil views! The owners have done a great job of developing the campsites. Sites are spread out, so privacy isn’t an issue. There are also a good number of camping related amenities which saves you from toting along some of your own items. The booking and site access process were super easy as well. Tony was easy to work with and guest oriented. Mountaintop Retreat has fantastic potential for the future in addition to the thoughtful work completed so far. Worth a stay for sure!

Had a great time! The sunset and sunrise were stunning! Lots of great sites and the mushroom trail for the kids was so cute. So nice having a fire pit with cooking grate and also chairs, benches and swings! Definitely recommend.

With pets
We drove our rented Class C RV to Brian’s place and it was heaven! Best Hipcamp spot yet. There was an intense (and amazing) thunderstorm that night and we were concerned the ground might get soft so we drove up to the house for the rest of the night. In the morning ended up we would have been fine staying where we were. Brian was helpful on options for driving back down the mountain. This place is the best!

The cabin was clean and very spacious! Windows oriented to take in the views. I enjoyed sitting out on the deck with the pups. Nice hot shower! Host John was very responsive to needs. Would stay here again.

Very private and peaceful! We stayed at Hidden Valley campsite. The stars were beautiful. The campsite was super clean and Brian was very friendly. Word to RV campers, the hills on Brian’s property were steep, 4wd is a must, but the biggest concern for trailers would be the roads getting up the mountain from town. Incredibly steep and lots of tight switch backs. We have a Tacoma with a 17ft Casita and anything much bigger would struggle up there. Just a warning if you have a big camper rig. Sometimes the best spots are the hardest to reach! Totally worth it.
