This camping experience takes place on a 200+ year old farm. We currently offer multiple camping options, most of which are only accessible by either all-wheel drive or 4-wheel drive vehicles.  The first location (along the main road) is solely for RVs or travel trailers (TT). The other camping locations are for tent camping, and much smaller/narrower and rugged RV/TT with a 4-wheel drive towing vehicle. Daniel and Cherith Kennedy purchased this 164-acre farm in 2014, and Daniel's parents, Brent Rita Kennedy, purchased the 1800's era farmhouse from Daniel and Cherith a couple years later. Together, we have transformed this farm back into a working farm with hay fields, cattle, donkeys, goats, sheep, chickens and any other critters we buy or rescue. We are currently rehabilitating the 1700's era one room schoolhouse at the front corner of our land as well. This farm is full of memories, hard work, and is absolutely stunning. Your hosts on-site are Brent and Rita Kennedy, and they are famous for spoiling our guests rotten. They can give you tours of the farm, some in-season eggs and veggies as they have available, and even throw in some petting opportunities. They love having visitors and are sure to make your trip memorable. Primitive, open, country road camping. (Primitive means there is nothing at the campsites except a space to camp. Open means you can camp anywhere on the land that is available. Country road means you might hear cars or trucks go by, but it is not a heavily traveled road.) Nestled between small mountain ranges, on a south-facing slope. Adjacent to mountain stream. Fishing pond. Wooded and open sites available. Rough gravel road loops around camping areas. Generally a high-clearance vehicle is recommended, unless you feel adventurous. So this is a great place to escape the hot humid Virginia summers!  We experience four true seasons, and the colors in the fall season are some of prettiest on the East Coast and perfect for leaf peeping!  We have deer, wild turkey, bear, chipmunks, raccoons, wild rabbits, Whip-poor-wills, and opossums on the property. Plus, the fireflies at night can be beautiful!  Plus, we've yet to see a mosquito!  You will be the only camper on the property, my RV is on site and is used as  guest quarters when I have company, but this is rare. There is no cell phone coverage and limited strength wifi, so unplug and relax!  The Camping Site is part of our mountainside property located in Long Hollow and sits on the edge of 7 acres of pasture, which leads to 7 acres of White Pine Forest you are welcome to use for walking, wildlife viewing, dog walking, etc.. It is conveniently located less than 2/10s a mile from Rt. 16, and 5 miles from I-81. Our neighbors are quiet but you may hear their donkey braying or chickens clucking. We ask that you do not disturb the neighbors or interact in any way with their animals. There is a Firepit and Picnic Table for your use. I try to keep a supply of firewood on hand which you are welcome to use, but if I run out you may have to get some wood elsewhere. You can scavenge fallen wood to burn.....

Our 35 acre farm is located on a mountainside with beautiful views of the Clinch Mountain. Our location is rural and peaceful with abundant wildlife. Deer, Racoons, Opossums, Bobcats, Bear, Fox, Groundhogs, and Turkey have been spotted on the property. We are a great spot for bird watching as well! Camp Grassland: Two of our prepped campsites are on a flattened area of the hillside field with access to a fire pit, log bench, and porta-potty. This location is in direct sun with beautiful views and easy access from the road. Parking at the top of the field is recommended unless you have a 4WD vehicle.  Cabin Breazy: Situated at one of the highest points on the property, Cabin Breazy is our cozy, off-grid, dry A-frame cabin surrounded by mountain views. Farmhouse Holler: 2nd Campsite is located next to our old farmhouse on a lower section of the property. Its near the natural spring and is shaded. There are no convenient bathroom facilities at this location so it is recommended to bring your own. Reaching the porta-potty would require an extensive uphill hike or driving around to the other entrance. To reach this campsite, the driveway could be considered rough terrain so drive slowly. Lowered vehicles or those with little ground clearance are not recommended.  Each campsite has a max occupancy of 2 people. If you need space for more campers, please reach out to us about how many are in your party. We can host groups with advanced notification. Overlanding vehicles are welcome. Attractions: If you are looking for birds-eye view of the area, visit the Mendota Fire Tower only 3.2 mile away. You can see it from the farm and see the farm from it. It's about a 15 minute hike from the road. You can choose the mildly challenging way up or take the old roadway for a smoother walk. Clinch River is only 20 minutes away. Cool off in the river or enjoy kayaking and tubing opportunities from Clinch River Adventures. Closest convenience store is about 15 minutes away. Closest Grocery store is about 20 minutes away. Friendly-leashed pets are welcome on the property. Remember to always keep your pet tethered as we have free roaming animals on the property. Never leave pets unattended on the property. Strategic Location for peaceful camping with lots of nearby options. Camping is very primitive and rustic as new amenities come online in planned future. The best time of booking is the weekend at present. We have: Wooded/Grassy hills with plenty of tree cover and open space to spread out . A uniquely positioned community fire pit is available with an impressive view.  It is very rustic and primitive, but well kept, quiet, secluded, with developing  surroundings.  There is direct access to Jefferson National Forest and miles of hiking, biking and horseback trails. Equestrians encouraged, but is Bring your own horse and Tie Line. Nearby sites include Bark Camp Lake, Guest River Gorge, Bear Rock, Little Stony Falls, Chief Benge Trail, Devils Bath Tub, and High Knob. We are also located along several driving and scenic routes to include: Backroads of the Cumberland's, Appalachian Backroads, Virginia Wildlife and Birding Trail, and Thomas Jefferson Scenic Byway (Rt. 72). In addition, within a short drive there is an ATV trailhead in the local town. The Clinch River is not far at all as well.  There is a small quaint downtown less than 5 miles with grocery, gas, supplies, and a few places to eat. Mission: The original idea for CR Adventure Outpost came many years ago. We grew up visiting "Grandparents" in Wise County and developed a deep love for the area, the outdoors, and all it had to offer. There came a point, , when we realized that the amount of outdoor activities and authentic cultural experiences could indeed support visitors. It could also support many business opportunities once everyone became aware of what was all around them. At that point, a process began of research and planning on ideas some thought were pointless. People deeply want to get back to nature and withdrawal from a fast paced materialistic society, at least long enough to realize what is really important in life. There is a huge need and vast opportunity to take advantage of the many beautiful landscapes in Southwest Virginia.

We stayed here for 3 weeks starting in mid October and absolutely loved it! The property is beautiful especially in the fall. The trails through his property were great for hikes. Tracy is a phenomenal host and very friendly. He greeted us and helped us get set up very easily and quickly. We felt like we had a lot of privacy even with his house nearby and neighbors across the street. The property is beautiful especially in the fall and we loved hiking his trails. It was an awesome location with downtown Marion very close, Grayson Highlands State Park (wild ponies!), as well as Mt. Rogers and White Top Mtn (2 highest peaks in VA), Abingdon (cute town), and plenty of waterfall hikes nearby - we checked out Big Tumbling Creek Falls and Comer Creek Falls. Such a gorgeous area!! AND THE STARS! Also I worked remotely and starlink connection was excellent for daily zoom calls. Tracy can provide wifi if you need to use his but we didnt. Can't beat the price with full hookups. I can't recommend this place enough. We will definitely be back when we're in the area! Many thanks to Tracy!

The site is as described. True primitive campsite with the ability to camp wherever your feet or vehicle can make it. I stayed at the furthest point past the pond. Parked right next to a babbling brook and took in the peace. He has scrap wood (dry) for fires, a workshop bathroom w/hot water. David was a fantastic host and appreciate him giving us the opportunity to stay on his land.

New driveway exit makes it very easy to simply pull in to the spot and drive straight out back onto the road!

It has taken a while to finally camp at Nathan’s Mountain view camp spot( no 1) and we were so happy to be there. A full moon, falling leaves, total peace and quiet, it was perfect. Drinking our morning coffee watching a hawk flying across the grass right in-front of us. The camping area is as clean as a whistle . We have a 20ft ford e350 campervan conversion and we managed the track up to the site easily to site 1, probably wouldn’t have managed it to 2. Thank you .

1 night at Meadow Haven Farm And Camping

What an incredible experience! This was unlike any other tent pad campsite we have ever been to. We started our day by exploring historic Abingdon then made a short 25 min drive to the camp site. We started our evening by the cozy fire pit where we took in the view of the mountains around us and cooked our dinner on the fire pits grill grate. No traffic sounds, no stress, just the sounds of nature, the crackle of the fire and the sizzle of a warm meal. We then went back to the well kept and clean camping pad and to an amazing view. The owners clearly put in a lot of work to the campsite and the beautiful flowering landscape around it. We watched the sunset over the misty mountains and turned in for the night. The next morning we used the solar powered bath house. The shower was gas heated so we both had hot water for a shower. The compost toilet was well maintained and clean, complete with a sink to wash our hands. The host was extremely kind and walked us through how to operate the facilities. To be honest, for the price, I wasn’t expecting much but I was blown away by the beauty, peace, comfort, and kindness that we experienced. Highly recommended. Best campsite we’ve been to yet. We will definitely make this a tradition for years to come. Next time we plan to do more hiking in the near by Channels nature preserve.

As others mentioned, the road up to the site is steep, but my rear wheel drive camper van had no trouble with it. Once at the site I met Nathan and Anna who were just finishing cutting the grass around the site. The site sits on a little knoll with enough flat space for several tents or campers. The site was clean, pleasant, and quiet. And dark. At night we had great views of the milky way and satellites, serenades by the night insects. I recommend this spot. And, if your purpose in staying here is to visit the Channels, it is only a mile up the road.

The property is beautiful with lots of options for where to set up camp! I wish it was a little more maintained to make things easier, but we did book last minute. Camping here feels like you are super remote just enjoying sounds of nature and seeing stars. Definitely make sure you get to the place prior to sunset as there’s no signage or lights.
