Well known hiking trails such as Seneca Rocks, Spruce Knob, and the Dolly Sods are all within an hour drive. Go to Nelson Rocks for the ultimate climbing experience on the Via Ferrata. The garden supplies more than half of our vegetables and our favorite berries, and our flock of chickens supply eggs and an early morning wake-up call for our campers! There are no GMO's, pesticides, herbicides or fungicides used on our farm. Learn more about this land: This wooded area is 5 miles away from the Ohiopyle State Park whitewater launch area and GAP bike trail. We are less than 9 miles from Frank Lloyd Wright's Classic Fallingwater and about 8 miles from Kentuck Knob one of the last resident homes he designed (both are open for tours). Fort Necessity National Battlefield is 5 miles away. There are numerous native trout streams in the area. Youghiogheny Reservoir is 7 miles away for fishing, boat rentals, and water-sports. The Fern House is the primary camp cabin on the property. Although if someone would want to park a "self contained" camper or small RV on the property we would permit the unit to occupy the area in front of the driveway just pass the entrance gate. It is not within the ferns and is next to the road. There is an electrical outlet available at this small RV or van camper site. We are "nice pet" friendly. Dogs should not be left in the cabin alone. We have a mountain spring (when the spring is running) up the trail road (450 feet away). The ferns will normally be in full glory by the end of May to mid September and are amazing, covering the forest floor. Deer, bear, wild turkey, fox, chipmunks, squirrels and many woodland birds abound the property especially owls. A picnic table, fire ring and firewood is available on the property. Free WiFi on the property as long as the plant life is not too thick! There is a mile hiking loop right on the property and many challenging trails in the area, including the starting point for the Laurel Highlands Hiking Trail. No smoking is permitted in the cabin. Read the entire narrative on the cabin (Tiny Fern House) before booking.

Weekend Trip to Czar Haus Cabin and RV Sites

Our RV full hook-up site was fairly level with only minor side-to-side and front-to-back leveling needed. Our site was maybe 30 feet from the river - great background noise to enjoy an evening around the firepit, although didn't see any trout. Be aware, the locals cruise the streets and off road trails on noisy quads. This absolutely stopped after dark. As for nearby activities: definitely drive to Helvetia, park and walk the town. If you can visit before the end of June 2026 drop by the authentic swiss store/post office - they are closing the doors at the end of June. Definelty book a reservation at The Hutte for early dinner (they close at 6PM) for traditional swiss/German cuisine. Walk through the restaurant- it's like a local historic museum. Everybody is super friendly so remember to wave. Take it easy on the roads with your rig - they are very winding and hilly.

Site was fantastic! Very private and great setting. Site was well maintained—fire ring was awesome. Would highly recommend, we would love to return here. Host’s directions and recommendations were super helpful and spot-on. We also hiked the nearby rail trail and would have explored more if we had the time.

We just had our first RV park experience at Momma Tried, and wow—what a great start! Frank, the host, went above and beyond from the moment we arrived. He greeted us personally, gave us the lay of the land, and even lent us a 30-to-50 amp plug when we realized we didn’t have one. That kind of hospitality is rare! The sites are wide, gravel, and level with easy access to the river. Our pup loved that the park is pet-friendly—he was in heaven running around the open spaces. When we weren’t relaxing at our site, Frank surprised us with firewood for a campfire, which was such a thoughtful touch. We originally picked a site that wasn’t quite what we had in mind, but Frank was incredibly accommodating and helped us switch to one that was perfect for us. He was also upfront about the park’s growing pains and shared his exciting plans for the future. As longtime tent campers, this was our very first RV park stay—and it couldn’t have been better. We’ll definitely be back. Thanks again, Frank, for such a memorable time!

Czar Haus campground was very nice, quite, peaceful. The site was well done. Robert was there to make sure we were all good and did not need anything. The small creek is so nice we let our dog splash and play. If I am in the area I would book it again. Robert knew what he was doing when he laid the sites out. We saw Deer every morning and evening. If you are looking for a real West Virgina quite spot it's here.

Weekend Trip to Barnum Cliffs Campground

We loved our stay at Barnum Cliffs! We stayed at the RV site for two nights and wish we could have stayed longer to explore more of the land and enjoy the peaceful site. It was so private, secluded, and quiet…just what we were looking for. We didn’t see or hear a soul. The hosts were very quick to respond and very helpful. There was firewood at the site but also a ton of wood around the site to use as well. To top it all off, we saw our first black bear at dusk walking up the mountain from the river…such a hi-light! We’d definitely return if we are looking to camp in the area again in the future!
