Cute little wood cabin on a large, quiet lot, with covered porch looking out towards the water near the end of Cole's Point. Gravity fed fresh water at the sink on the porch. Inside, includes couch, queen bed, twin bed, fridge with chilled water, freezer, microwave. Nicely heated in winter and stays cool in summer. Sitting in comfy camp chairs on the covered porch can be magical during a spring rain. Outhouse with nightlight and composting toilet. Firepit with kindling and firewood in winter. (Summer fires are not allowed.) Short walk to the beach to the north. Short walk south to the edge of the Oro Bay as well. Kayaks can be rented on island. (Not related to the host.) Multiple hikes / walks within Jacob's Point, Andy's Marine Park, and 7 other parks on island. One wonderful little grocery store on island for fresh or incidental items along with one cafe, and one restaurant. The historic Johnson Farm and Museum can be a great place to sample island life from 100+ years ago. Pay extra for use of the twin electric bikes to ride the many quiet, scenic roads around the island. These roads can take you to the hikes, the store, cafe, or sample the sights like the 1928 ferry "Ocean City" slowly sinking into the mud in Oro Bay. There is often deer, hawks, eagles, coyotes, bunnies, and sometimes humpback or orca whales, all within sight of the cabin. It's a great place to escape the hectic pace of the city and enjoy the solitude interrupted only by the sound of the birds, and perhaps the distant trains about 3 miles away. Writer looking for a spot to focus on your next book? Reader wanting to finish a good book? Both are a perfect fit. Dogs are welcome but cannot run free due to the native animals that call the area home. The ferry is a 1 hour walk so cars are recommended. The Steilacoom ferry to Anderson Island leaves from the wonderful historic town of Steilacoom which is also well worth visiting. The trail is historic to the property - you will find remnants of fallen barbed wire fences, an abandoned electrical post from 70 years ago, and a 1960’s sedan, all taken back by the forest.
A wetland boardwalk ushers you to a creekside deck. A birdwatcher's paradise, here you can kayak into Lake Isabella or tube downstream. This is private access -- the expansive wetlands prevent neighbors - you will only share this special space with the occasional kayaker. There is a beaver dam just upstream, and if you visit at twilight you will hear them stir from dens along the bank.
When hunger stirs, stroll north along the trail to a secluded upland picnic table. Dine among the woodland animals.

Weekend Trip to Alder Grove Retreat
Despite a slight mixup at the start, Dawson was a very gracious host and we had a comfortable stay at the Eagle View Cabin. The quarters are cozy with mini-kitchenette, bed, and loveseat all within arm's reach of each other. The outdoor rear porch shower & composting toilet worked fine. The propane room heater gets the cabin quite toasty, even on cool nights. If the weather is good, the front deck is fun for eating or watching the sky.

This place is phenomenal and exceptionally well thought out. Dawson was super helpful and responsive. The deck view was stunning and the place had everything we needed to make an amazing meal. This area is also beautiful and the drive to and from is unreal. Hope to be back soon.

We loved our time at this cozy little cabin. Secluded, beautiful surroundings, but close enough to go grab food or necessities in 20 mins. The lack of cell service was such a nice touch and beautiful way to unwind.

Blackberry Cabin offers a perfect slice of solitude! The peace that came from listening to rain pattering on the roof and the wind chimes singing softly along with the warblers and sparrows was the perfect anecdote to the stress and business of everyday life. My dog, Abby, and I loved the off-leash walks on the trails among the birches! The cabin is wonderfully cozy and beautifully designed- the detailing on the ceiling of the bed nook was especially lovely. The cabin is outfitted with all the essentials- all I needed was my clothes and toothbrush! Brian is an excellent host. He made me feel very welcome on his property, showed me around the cabin, and then the place was mine to enjoy for the rest of my stay. I’m looking forward to returning sometime soon!

Weekend Trip to Cole's Cabin on Anderson Island
It was a wonderful quiet peaceful retreat. We didn't do much of anything except enjoy a beautiful view, have warm bare feet finally! and enjoy each other's company.
We will return in a more adventurous time.
Fred was a wonderful host & yes, the brownies are good, especially with a cup of mint tea before bed!

What a lovely space to unwind! The view is relaxing, fire at dusk, its a breath of fresh air. Everything you could need is supplied, we appreciated the little local guide binder that was provided. And the toilet is not scary to use at all.

2 nights at Peace on Earth
I almost don’t want to share the experience, as to avoid bringing others to a spot we plan to revisit! But I must.
My husband and I took our two dogs to Brian’s cabin for an “all to yourself” quiet getaway. It was exactly what we needed - Away from the loud and chaotic world. We spent the whole time walking with our dogs (off leash and able to fully enjoy the nature and space around them) or posted up around the gas fire, listening to the woods around us. When shut in for the night, we had just the right amount of kitchen gadgets to enjoy simple meals for two. When waking up to the sunny forest around us, there was a stocked shower with thoughtful natural/essential oil infused shampoo/conditioner/body wash. For any point in the trip, there was a plethora of blankets for us and the dogs.
It was really everything we wanted. As soon as we got into reception range, I immediately started notifying friends and family about how they needed to visit this place. It is the recharging-kind-of-place we Oregonians all long for amidst the overwhelming routine of life.
Book it now, before I beat you to it!

Truly beautiful, tranquil break away. The cottage is stunning and there's so much space between the RV spot and the cottage itself. Our host was so kind and friendly, and very accommodating. Would definitely recommend and would love to stay again.

This was a great spot for exploring Mt Rainier National Park, especially in the cooler weather. We loved soaking after snowshoeing and hiking and the space to cook and relax. Janet was very helpful and responsive with her communication.

The site was great, easy to find and comfy. it came with more than we expected too, there was a heater inside and propane fire pit plus a sink (non-potable) which was great for rinsing dishes!

The cabin was amazing. Fred was an amazing host and, both from our stay and the reviews left in the guest book, seems very good at reading people and meeting their wants and needs in every respect.
The cabin was clean and getting to watch the sunrise on the private beach was amazing. Would definitely recommend and go for another visit.

Weekend Trip to Alder Grove Retreat
Amazing, absolutely amazing land that we stayed on. Dawson (camp host) was excellent in communicating with us if we had any questions or concerns. We had a wonderful stay away from the world we live in today.
The cabin we stayed in was maintained very well, upkeep on the trail leading to the cabin was top notch. We began our stay in wet and cold conditions. The trail had fresh wood chips to counter the slippery conditions. The parking area was freshly laid with a bed of thick gravel, this made parking and unloading our belongings safe for us.
We recommend this stay to anyone looking for paradise in the mountains. To note, we stayed nice and warm throughout the night which was pleasant. We plan to stay many times when the weather is warmer.
