2 nights at North Wind House: Historic Cascadia
I stayed in the Willow Cabin for two nights over the Thanksgiving holiday, and it was exactly the peaceful reset I was hoping for. I arrived after 9pm, and even in the dark, the property felt welcoming with its whimsical lighting guiding the way. Reg, the host, was there to greet me and walk me through everything — from the cozy cabin setup to the full outhouse bathroom and the little kitchen area with a fridge for essentials.
The cabin itself is simple and calming, with a twin and a queen bed, both with fresh linens. Reg had the space heater going before I arrived, which was such a thoughtful touch. Since I stayed during the colder season, I was grateful I brought a heated blanket, and I’d recommend others do the same that time of year.
The water straight from the tap was incredibly fresh and delicious, truly something you don’t get in the city — just a small detail that made the stay feel even more special.
What really stood out to me was the beauty and quiet of the property. Reg genuinely encourages guests to wander and explore, and it made the whole stay feel more personal and grounding. It’s the perfect spot for anyone wanting to unplug, reflect, and enjoy a truly low-amenity, chill cabin experience.
And I have to mention this — the shower water pressure and heat were amazing. Truly a highlight!
If you know you enjoy a simple, peaceful, back-to-basics kind of stay, Willow Cabin is such a gem. I’d absolutely return.

Reg's land and cabin are lovely. He's a sweet and accommodating host :) The property feels a little magical with a walk along the river and a big beautiful tree to greet you. The record collection is fun to dig through - some real gems in there.

Reg’s hundred acre wood is a charming mix of huts and outbuildings new and old. The vegetation overgrowth and misty air conceal various construction materials and antiques around the property. Dishes and coffee are available, and the BBQ worked as long as you can squeeze into the narrow place where it’s situated. The washroom is cute, the kitchen is slated for demolition, and the cabin we stayed in was warm. Reg was enthusiastic about showing us around the property, and introducing us to the sheep.

Reg is friendly and check in was very easy. The place had everything we needed and the space heater worked very well even on the lowest setting. The area is beautiful, particularly the little grotto area down the hill. I think it's an excellent stay especially for the price.

Reg has created a very cool space on his property. We loved staying in the analogue room, it felt very private and the bed was really comfortable! There’s a cozy washroom with a clawfoot tub and hot water and a kitchen both only a few steps away.
The property itself is stunning! Lots of hiking to explore and a volcanic grotto that had some of the most incredible rocks I’ve seen. This place is magic!

Beautiful property with direct access to Sumas Mt. Very quiet. Shared washroom and kitchen were clean and well kept. Quite a comforting experience with Reg and other the tenants. Would recommend.

As other reviews said, if you stay at the tent site you will hear road noise. I was primed for this, so it didn't bother me. Reg's place was absolutely perfect for a quick spot to car camp before heading back home from exploring Baker. He and his partner Amanda were very communicative and kind. The property is clean and charming and I can tell they both have a lot of pride in it. I will definitely come back, next time to hopefully rent a cabin. Thanks again for opening your special space to others!

We had a perfect weekend away at the Analogue Room. It’s nostalgic and homey, there’s privacy, a gorgeous view, scenic artwork and a sense of community throughout the property. This experience will do wonders for the soul and your mental health. Reg is a warm and welcoming host and has a curated a space that is visually stunning, safe and inviting. 10/10.

I loved tent camping among the animals. They were all very comfortable with our presence, a little curious at times, and a little excitable about food. Overall beautiful camping space, land was well maintained, the operators were helpful, friendly, and easy to contact. Will definitely be back!

Reg was a wonderful and thoughtful host! He was extremely accommodating, we came on a very hot day and he provided us with a box fan in the cabin. The land is beautiful and we loved talking to Reg about his connection to the land. The bathhouse and kitchen are great additions and made our stay comfortable. The cabin itself was cute and cozy.

Awesome property to camp as you’re doing a drive around Olympic. Tons of space on the alpaca field to set up a tent. The alpacas and llamas were an added bonus that we really enjoyed. Communication with Roni was fast and easy. Would recommend. The porta-potties were kept clean!

This Hipcamp is fantastic. Helps to be creative when you arrive, because the pasture where you set up is at least a couple open acres and you can set up wherever. The animals are so fun and sweet. Sunrise and sunset are gorgeous. We’d love to stay here again! Thanks to the hosts!

It was so beautiful!! Having that open space, with the friendly and funny animals, was an experience we’ll always remember. My kids were totally obsessed. I felt so safe, and the property was so clean. The portapotties were very clean!
They showed us where we could charge our external chargers. Seriously so glad this place exists. They’ve put a lot of work into making this a wonderful haven for these animals and to share it with us felt like such a gift.

Where to go
Orcas Island
Orcas Island is the biggest island in the San Juans, and has plenty of amenities, including restaurants, museums, shops, and camping options. It’s also home to the largest of Washington’s state parks—Moran State Park—a fantastic place for hiking, and boating. Tent and RV camping is available in the park, but campers need to secure reservations ahead of time. If you have your own boat, you can also visit nearby Sucia Island Marine State Park, an uninhabited, pristine spot directly north of Orcas Island.
San Juan Island
San Juan Island is popular among adventurers and history lovers, and the San Juan Island National Historical Park is a must-visit for anyone who wants to learn about the Pig War, a boundary dispute between Britain and the U.S. that all started because of a trespassing pig. The park is for day use only, but you'll find tent and RV sites at San Juan County Park on the west side of San Juan Island, overlooking Haro Straight, and at the San Juan County Fairgrounds.
Lopez Island
The third-most populated island in the chain, Lopez Island offers 63 miles of shoreline and a mix of forests, farmlands, galleries, and boutiques. The island is popular among cyclists, with quiet, mostly flat roads, and has a few great places to camp, including Spencer Spit State Park, which has reservable and hiker/biker sites, a dump station, flush toilets, but no hookups or showers, and Odlin County Park has seven RV sites for vehicles less than 30-feet-long, but no hookups.
Shaw Island
Shaw Island is the smallest of the four main San Juan Islands that are accessible by ferry, with a year-round population of only around 200 people. You can camp at Shaw County Park, which offers 11 tent camping sites, a boat launch, picnic tables, and fire pits. Island facilities are limited, but there is a general store by the ferry landing where you can buy food and supplies.
