It was sufficient and met our needs. Appreciate the swift response due to our last minute booking.
This site was reserved a month ahead and I was told to book the “cheap one” and could pick a site when I arrived. When I arrived at check in time, there was no one available to help. There was a camper in a van blocking the communal area, and campers already set up in the site I had actually booked. There were no other sites to choose from.
The restroom facilities consisted of a box over a bucket with a toilet seat, and a shower without full coverage (the curtain did not go all the way around), inside a building that was made up almost entirely of uncovered windows. That is also where the refrigerator and food were stored.
The directions, while extremely detailed, were difficult to follow or understand. The signage was confusing, and the van blocking the communal area was confusing as well.
The tent site (which was already occupied) was not very accessible or close to the facilities. No one answered at the phone number that was provided with the listing. When Steve B. did finally call back, two hours after check in, he said “can I help you?” in a rude, irritated tone. When told “not anymore” because we had already left our prepaid campsite to find somewhere else to stay (and pay last minute rates) Steve replied that it was “key to contact [him] ahead of time and not last minute”

there were a lot of amenities such as a shower, a sink, a composting toilet, and power, but there was construction happening near the platform that made it difficult to navigate. the ground had a lot of hidden divots that I would trip in, there was a massive pile of felled trees between our site and our car, and there was also a drainage ditch you had to cross to get to the platform.

The host was incredibly friendly and promptly assisted us with setting up and starting the fire, making our stay very enjoyable. This place is a hidden gem, featuring many ongoing and completed projects. Additionally, it is conveniently close to various amenities.
The camp wasn't ready for campers yet. The campsite was overgrown with bramble and stinging nettles and the furniture pictured was falling apart. Fortunately the campsite managers friends were there and let us camp in the driveway in front of the owners yurt and next to the communal fire pit. This campsite is also directly above a busy road and the traffic can be heard all night long.
The host rented us a site that was NOT avaliable to my RV, because their were two cars already parked there. It's as if he forgot he rented to us!!!

We were not able to park in the landscaped RV area due to other vehicles parked in the area. The electric hookup was not near parking area. We ended up parking our trailer near the fire pit on uneven ground. The advertising on hipcamp had pictures for hot tub and no hot tub on site. The picture of hot tub was fake. We feel like our first experience with hipcamp was underwhelming due to host falsely representing the site. We feel the 75 dollar a night was excessive for what was being offered.

Nice property with a lot of spaces to set up a tent. I feel the host may have over booked so we had to stay behind a tiny home as the tent sites were occupied. We got to use the on site hot tub (for extra cash) and the bathroom was available.
Steves Discovery Culture Compound is incredible oasis away from the busy world. We have a 32 fifth wheel and it fit in the slot great. Water and Power on site and super quiet. Awesome sense of community and cool tiny house. Nature and Art all in one spot.

Needed a last minute spot to pitch a tent and landed on Discovery Culture. The tent platform is tucked away for privacy with its own little fire ring. This is centrally located to our target destinations, Olympic National Park and Port Townsend. We enjoyed s’mores at communal fire pit and had great conversations with other campers. The garden offered delicious berries and tomatoes also.
It was awesome from beginning to end.
We expected just a place to park rvw camper and instead we made friends learned so much and had an extraordinary experience with numerous people who chose this very hip camp site because it's based on permaculture principles.
We learned so much we got to see so much and we are going home with a heart filled with gratitude.
Steve is a super great host with a super big heart.
I loved experiencing the composting toilet.
And we shared two great insightful inspiring evenings by the campfire, with the guest that also shared this great camp. I liked it so much better than just having my own little camp spot.
Short distance to drive to Port Townsend something like 24 minutes.
I would definitely come back.

Hi there has been a change in camp management and when I went there at 10pm because of ferry scheduling there was no Tipi so I had to find someplace else to stay. I recommend calling ahead to speak to someone before making a reservation.
Awesome, private spot in a good location! Steve was super nice and accommodating, answered any questions we had throughout the stay!

Awesome camp site! Steve was extremely helpful and hospitable, he showed us around the site and how to use all of his great amenities all after receiving us at a late time in the night. I would absolutely book again and looking forward to see his upcoming new facilities!

Everyone was very friendly and Steve, the host, was very hospitable in showing us around the various areas of the camp grounds. We enjoyed learning about some of the sustainable practices at the campsite. The fire pit and picnic gathering area was especially nice with the water fountain. We have a large rig and found it difficult to turn around in the parking area.

We were able to drive our small SUV to the tent platform area and turn around . Without doing that, I'm not sure if this would have worked for us.. We weren't traveling lite and would have had to pack things up and down a pretty steep hill to get to the site. We had beautiful morning sunshine and late afternoon shade. It was 4th of July weekend. Noise from Highway 101 caused me to sleep with ear plugs. It wasn't real bad but I'm a light sleeper.
We enjoyed the camp fire pit and Steve gave us wood for it.
I would stay here again.
We enjoyed privacy. Steve was a great communicator.

We enjoyed our stay. He has a very nice above the ground fire pit that I didn’t have to worry about my 15month old falling into. Nice shower. He Allowed us to hook up to the electricity and our RV to the water and let us barrow an e stent ion cord. We enjoyed the country air and not having to worry about other campers. About an hr from beautiful hike in Olympic national park. Steve was friendly and his little tiny home community is awesome and he’s building a really beautiful community house.
This was a great first time using Hipcamp. He is a very kind and thoughtful owner with a wonderful vision and space.
Discovery culture was a highly unique camping experience. The platform for my tent worked out great. Don’t expect to drive to the platform unless you have a high clearance vehicle though. I thought it was weird I never saw the host present but there was communication. Highway noise wasn’t too bad, and was nice being within walking distance fat smittys. The hang out area was really cool and unique, and the bath house felt like you were showering in the rain forest. There is stuff randomly placed everywhere so be careful when you walk around at night. Definitely recommend this place for a one of a kind experience.
